Code Enforcement Manager Glenn Tolleson and his team are utlizing funds paid to the city through code enforcement actions to demolish dilapidated vacant structures in the City that tend to become havens for criminal activity. This most recent demolition was at 606 Tropic St. Titusville Police Department coordinated and held the second annual Partnership in the Park event at Isaac Campbell Park on Sunday, May 22 nd. Titusville Fire & Emergency Services, Brevard County Sheriff s Office, McDonald s, and Brevard County Parks and Rec teamed up with the police department Crimeline, Bimbo Bakeries, Boys and Girls Club and St James AME Church to host this free event for the community. There was free food, a bounce house and water slide for all to enjoy along with free bikes given away at the end. Page 1 of 6

2 Titusville Police Department s Crime Scene Investigations team Rocked One Sock to raise awareness to missing and exploited children. We all have the missing sock from the laundry and the concept of this campaign is that when the sock goes missing there is always hope to find it. This is the same when a child goes missing and the hope for finding them. The FBI reports that in 2015 there were 460,699 reports of missing children made to law enforcement in the U.S. For more information visit On May 21st, Titusville Police Officers participated in a 5k Run that benefited the For the Girls Foundation and Doctor of Women s Health. This 5k ultimately benefits Breast Cancer patients to help prevent Lymphedema. All funds go to their Scholarship Program helping Breast Cancer Patients and provides them with Treatments &/or Compression Garments they could not otherwise afford and/or if there are insurance complications. On Tuesday, May 31 st, Titusville Police Department s Command Staff traveled to Winter Garden to explore and learn about their bike trail. This trip was made to help give staff members insight on what to expect from Titusville s new bike trail. They were also joined by Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle who briefly discussed impacts of the trail on their police department. We d like to introduce Shane Daily, who started this week as our new Media Specialist in Community Relations. Shane interned with us last summer after graduating from Eastern Central Florida. We are glad to have him back on board in a full-time position! 3 What s going on in IT: Please Pardon Our Dust! Facilities is doing some work on the walls in the Computer Room to help us increase efficiency. The dust should settle and the noise will stop by the end of the week. The Helpdesk office has been rearranged giving us more usable space. We ve also added a few more cameras in City Hall and have been upgrading the software to accommodate them. When completed, we ll have better coverage in key areas. We re working on a few more electronic security upgrades, as well. Page 3 of 6

4 Community Development made their annual department review to City Council recently, please see the link below to watch the video. As the video dipicts they easily celebrate National Doughnut Day, June 3 rd actually everyday. And for the next major purchase for the hard working employees of CD they are getting a for their recovery efforts. The City of Titusville Summer Youth Program is up and running again this year. These job opportunities provide Titusville students with a meaningful, paid work experience in a municipal government environment. The work opportunities will employ high school students for 25 hours per week for a 9-week period through July 29, The selected person will be paid by the City and receive Florida minimum wage of $8.05/hr. The Human Resources office will assist in matching the youth with their job preferences. In addition to providing summer employment, the selected students will learn about the vast array of career opportunities found in local government service. As an added benefit, this opportunity allows students to become familiar with the job hiring process, including interview and resume preparation procedures. Two Finance Department staff attended the DISC assessment training this week. HISTORY COMES ALIVE IN NORTH BREVARD! With a great sense of pride, the North Brevard Mural Society and their sponsors, the Friends of the Historical Society of North Brevard, have partnered to showcase the history and beauty of North Brevard County in the form of public art on the north wall of the North Brevard Historical Museum, 301 S Washington Avenue, Titusville, FL The history mural highlights some of the prominent people and industries of the early days in the Titusville area. On May 26, 2016, visiting artist and creator of the artwork, Keith Goodson, began to paint the society's third mural in their collection. The mural is expected to be completed in six weeks, weather permitting. The North Brevard Historical Museum collaborated with the mural society to provide the artist many historic photos to bring this wall to life. The mural proudly reflects our area's past and encourages visitors and local residents to learn about our beginnings, be entertained, but mostly, be inspired by the community spirit that exists in Titusville. 5 CITY OF TITUSVILLE PROGRESS: WE HAVE A SLAB FOR THE WELCOME CENTER. On Friday, April 1, 2016 the City held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new downtown Welcome Center building that will be located at the southwest corner of the Julia Street Parking lot. Members of City Council, Downtown Merchants, the Titusville Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Titusville Renaissance, the Greenway & Trails Foundation and City Staff were on hand for the ceremony. The approximately 2,000 square foot structure designed to complement the Pritchard House will provide restroom facilities for downtown events and provide hospitality-information type services to welcome Trail Tourists and locals alike. Saturn Builders of Titusville is constructing the building. It is estimated that the facility will be completed in five (5) to six (6) months. The building is being constructed with Community Redevelopment tax increment funds. The Fire and Emergency Services Department's current LEAN Project has been its Administrative Records Project, archiving or scanning into Laserfiche old files and shredding large amounts of paper. Providing our final report to City Manager Larese last week, we noted that during the project we had shredded 169 gallons of paper. Our answer to avoid clogging the landfill with the paper--pass it along for another use! For some time, we have been taking our shredded paper to the SPCA which it uses in the place of conventional clay kitty litter in their cat's litter boxes. We recommend to departments and individuals to save your shredded paper and join us in helping out the SPCA take care of their little creatures. Page 5 of 6

6 On May 11, 2016 Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited Oak Park Elementary School for Career Day. Station 10 s crew consisting of Lieutenant Doug Chamberlain, Driver Operator Shawn Holbrook and Firefighter Aaron Jolly provided an Engine Display. The Firefighters also talked to the First Grade Class about the requirements to become a Firefighter. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore assisted with the event. A total of 126 students, teachers and parents participated in the event. On Friday, May 27 th, Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore instructed a citizen on the proper technique for the installation of her child safety seats. She installed one infant carrier and one high-back booster seat showing proper placement of the seats in the car for the safety of the child. On May 18, 2016 Titusville Fire & Emergency Services visited LaCita Country Club. Life Safety Specialist Heather Gilmore received a $ grant from the Pilot Club to assist the Fire Departments Bicycle Helmet Program. Titusville Fire & Emergency Services Bicycle Helmet Program allows the citizens of Titusville to receive a Free Bicycle Helmet once fitted properly. Since January 2016 Titusville Fire Department has fitted 97 children, teens and adults with Bicycle Helmet Page 6 of 6
