Accordingly, it is estimated that in 1998 the tourism industry did provide an income to some 1.8 millions of persons. The total receipts generated by the international visitors in 1998 was of 7,897 millions of dollars, comprising the expenditure generated by the tourists, and border & port visitors (less than one day stays). The receipts generated in 1998 by the international tourists to Mexico reached 6,037 millions of dollars, due to the expenditure of the international and border tourists (more than one day stays on both cases). The foreign currency income produced by the visitors in the same year, was established at 1,860 millions of dollars, integrated by the expense performance of the border visitors and the passengers traveling on the cruiseline ships while visiting Mexico.
