3 ABOUT THE CITY AN AIRPORT CONNECTIVITY NAME OF THE AIRPORT (STATE) : BETUL / SOHAGPUR AIRSTRIP, NOW WITH PRIVATE PARTY), BETUL IST., MAHYA PRAESH (A) ABOUT THE CITY : (I) INTROUCTION : Betul is a city and municipality in southern Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the administrative center of its eponymous district and forms the southernmost part of the Bhopal ivision in the Betul- Harda Parliamentary Constituency. The district also includes Amla, which serves as a separate headquarters. Betul itself is the most developed place in the district and is well connected with most parts of India by railway. Betul is situated on the elhi-chennai main railway line and is also well connected by a network of roads. At Barsali a stone marks the Geographical Center Point of India. About The Airstrip : In Betul there is a small airstrip available in a village by name SOHAGPUR. The village is situated 18 kms from the Betul railway station. it is on the grand trunk route of New elhi - Chennai broad-gauge double line. The airstrip is being called as Balajipuram airstrip. It is a private operated airfield and it was being maintained by NRI trust belonging to a temple situated in Betul. Shri Sam Verma who claims to be owner of airstrip at present informed that the portion of this airfield is partly owned by him and some portion belongs to state government. When checked with istrict administration officials, it was intimated that airfield land is under dispute. (II) ABOUT THE ISTRICT POPULATION, ECONOMY, INUSTRY & TOURISM POTENTIAL : POPULATION : uring the 2011 Indian census, Betul istrict had a population of 103,330 ECONOMY : Betul istrict's economy is predominantly an agrarian one. Its dense woods also permit forestry. Its road and rail connections and good telecom services have led some to predict that Betul will become an advanced industrial district INUSTRY : Currently, Betul istrict supports 7160 cottage industries capitalized at Lakhs ] and employing 17,682 people; 33 small-scale industries capitalized at Lakhs and employing 667 people; and 5 medium- or large-scale industries with a total capitalization Lakhs and a workforce of 999 people. Of the 33 SSI's, 8 are agricultural, 13 are mineral-based, and 1 is forest-based. The five larger industrial plants are: 1

TOURISM POTENTIAL : i) Muktagiri is scenic Jain temple approximately 80 km (50 mi) from Betul. ii) Balajipuram is a temple 8 km (5 mi) outside Betul built by NRI Mr Sam Verma. The temple was opened to the public in Every year Funfair is organized on the occasion of religious festival of Basant Panchami. This temple is 111 feet (34 m) high and covers 15 acres (6 ha). iii) Kukrukhamla is a scenic spot. ] iv) Multai is the origin of the Tapti River and a place of religious importance ] It is situated on the Bhopal-Nagpur Highway about 50 km (31 mi) from Betul. v) Other tourist spots include Sona Ghati, Kerpani, and the Shapna Water Reservoir. He owns two aircraft, one Cessna 172 (7 seater) and one piper Navajo (4 seater aircraft). This airfield is situated 18 km from Betul city, 08 kms from Balajipuram village and 01 km from Sohagpur village.
