And, he's not just talking about the nearly 70 years of Macgregor family ownership it is embarking on. He s referring to the nearly 185 years and whopping seven generations of continuous business dating back to 1834 in Toronto s iconic St. Lawrence Market. In this age of an ever-shrinking food landscape, dominated by large with a vision for the FUTURE SAMPLE multi-national corporations, it s a notable point worth singing from the rooftops. The story begins when John H. Wickson set up his butcher business in Toronto s historic St. Lawrence Market in The business remained in the Wickson family for four generations until 1949, when it was realeased to Peter Macgregor, then general manager. Peter Macgregor was a Scotsman who had come to Canada as a butcher by trade, looking for more opportunity in life. Then operating as Peter Macgregor - Purveyor, the business remained in the market until 1966, before moving to the business first federally inspected facility and turning its attention to its burgeoning retail, foodservice and restaurant sales. That trajectory has continued through three generations of the Macgregor family, formally becoming macgregors meat & seafood ltd. in 1991 with the addition of a robust fresh and frozen seafood division, and along the way becoming Canada s first purveyor to be licensed by Certified Angus Beef to process and sell the brand nationally. It helps operators navigate the complex labyrinth of hotel ownership across Canada. Surveys were ed to hotel owners, franchisors and managers in June, and they were asked to provide an overview of their hotel portfolio in Canada and internationally, listing the number of owned, managed and franchised units, as well as their relationship to any parent companies, divisions, subsidiaries and brands. We hope it is a useful guide and a valuable resource for your team.
