2 0013 CClXXXIII/ 2 ORIGINAL: English DATE: April 4, 1986 INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE PROTECTION OF NEW VARIETIES Of PLANTS GENEVA CONSULTATIVE COMMITTEE Thirty- third Session Geneva, April15, 1986 STATE OF ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE CELEBRATION IN 1986 OF THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADOPTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL CmNENTION Memorandum prepared by the Office of the Union 1. The Consultative Committee approved at its last session the arrangements made for the celebration (see document CC/XXXII/5, paragraphs 30 to 32). The Consultative Committee also authorized the Office of the Union, in conjunction with the French Organizing Committee, to complete the preparations for the celebration, to issue a provisional announcement and to issue the formal invitations in the spring of 1986 (see document CC/XXXII/5, paragraph 33). 2. In February 1986, the Secretary-General issued the said provisional announcement and sent it to governments and organizations. 3. On March 24, 1986, the Office of the Union received from Mr. M. Simon (France) a detailed package of updated information concerning the organization of the celebration, as prepared by the French members of the Organizing Committee. The following persons are members of the Organizing Committee: Mr. V. Desprez (Chairman), Mr. A. de Vilmorin (Vice-chairman), Mr. Fontana (member), Mr. Cauderon (member), the Vice Secretary-General of UPOV (member), Mr. M. Simon (Secretary-General) and Mr. R. Petit-Pigeard (Secretary-General). That documentation follows the decisions adopted by the Consultative Corrunittee. The Office of the Union is now preparing final drafts for the program for the Symposium and the optional subsequent visits to French plant breeding institutes and stations, the ladies' program, the invitation cards to the social functions, the registration forms and the information package to be supplied to participants. Those drafts will have to be agreed by the Organizing Committee. The Office of the Union will also prepare the usual formal invitations to the sessions of the Consultative Committee and the Council, and to the 1986 Symposium. Those will be issued in the normal way by the Secretary-General of UPOV.

3 CC/XXXIII/2 page 2 4. A combined program compr~s~ng all events is attached in the Annex to this document for the use of the members of the Consultative Committee. The program that will be distributed with the formal invitations will of course exclude references to the--restricted--sessions of the Consultative Committee and Council and related events. 5. The Consultative Committee, at its last session, approved the proposal of the Office of the Union that the "country reports" and "organization reports" given by representatives of member States, observer States and observer organizations at ordinary sessions of the Council should, in view of their importance and value, and in view of the fact that there will be insufficient time for them to be presented orally at the twentieth ordinary session, be submitted to the Office of the Union in written form (see document CC/XXXII/3, paragraph 8). The Office of the Union will shortly write to member States, observer States and observer organizations inviting them to submit their reports by September l, 1986, so that there is sufficient time for a suitable document to be prepared for circulation to participants at the Si~posium. 6.
