2 General Presentation Romania, is a country in south-eastern Europe, with surface of 237,500 sq. km. Bucharest is the capital and largest city. The modern country of Romania was created in It became fully independent in Romania was a kingdom from 1881 to In 1948 the Communist Party was installed. In 1989 Romanians revolted against the repressive dictatorship of the president and Communist Party leader. The first free multiparty elections took place in Romania in 1990.

3 Romania is roughly oval in shape, with a maximum distance from east to west of 720 km and a maximum distance from north to south of 515 km. The Romanian Flag Blue signifies the serenity of heaven, the faith and the power with which we are bound to our homeland. Yellow expresses the wheat fields wealth, the country's prestige and virtue. Red means the blood of our forefathers shed on the Romanian soil over the ages.

17 The Weather Forecast Romania has a temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The average daily temperature in Bucharest is -7 to +2 C in January and +16 to +33 C in July. In May the average temperature is around +14 C during the night and +22 C during the day.

19 The Palace of the Parliament of Bucharest, also known under the name of the House of the People, measures 270 m on 240 m, 86 m high, and 92 m underground, having 9 surface levels and another 9 underground. According to World Records Academy, the Palace of Parliament is the second largest administrative building for civilian use in the world, the most expensive administrative building and the heaviest building in the world. The building has approximately 1000 rooms, of which 440 are offices, over 30 are halls and lounges, and also include 4 restaurants, 3 libraries, 2 underground parking lots and concert hall. Its construction lasted 13 years and more than 700 architects collaborated to design the project. The Venue

20 Since 2008, the meetings of the Senate Permanent Bureau are held in the Constantin Stere Hall and this is the place where our meeting will take place. The area of the room is 500 sq. m and its capacity of 155 seats, featuring amplification plant for conferences and cabins for simultaneous translation. Constantin Stere Hall

21 The logo hoisted during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is The Dacian Wolf, the flag of our ancestors, the Dacians. The Logo The flag has the shape of a dragon ending in a wolf head with open jaws, raised to the top of a spear.

22 It was inspired by the flag of our ancestors dating back centuries BC, the Dacians, who identified themselves with The Sons of the Great Luminous Wolf, or white wolf. The procedure by which the Logo was selected was designed to stimulate the participation of young people in order to express their views on the future of the European Union. Following the contest dedicated to choosing the logo for the Romanian presidency, the winning concept belongs to a 15-year-old college student. The Logo
