We highly recommend taking trips on the canals and lakes which this unique area of Europe offers. The nautical base is equipped with speed boats, fishing boats as well as kayaks. Fishing enthusiasts can be surprised by some big catches (every year kg salmons are caught). We can provide baits and even organize prize winning competitions. Also, fishing training courses can be arranged for the little ones on the nearby lakes. Bird watching or photo hunting can be spectacular alternatives for both beginner and advanced tourists. ( In order to understand the complexity of Danube Delta, it is not enough to read these lines, but you have to visit this vast natural environment, to travel by boat on the channels and lakes, to hear the rustle of reeds and sounds of nature and only then you would realize how rich we are with such a wonderful place called Heaven of birds and fish. It is a place that we should preserve for future generations at least as it is now. There are a lot of places to visit here, Danube Delta is ranked second place in size in Europe after Delta of the river Volga, with approximately 4,180 square km, and if we also consider the Razim-Sinoe lagoon and Danube s estuary, this area expands to approximately 5,500 square km. 82% of Danube Delta is located in Romania, the rest of it being located in Ukraine. Delta entered the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, it is classified as a Biosphere Reserve nationally in Romania and as national park. We begin our journey with a brief description of Sfantu Gheorghe as being located at 120 km from Tulcea, where Sfantu Gheorghe channel flows into Black Sea. This settlement was first mentioned on the Genovese Visconti s map in the 14th century, as the community of San-Giorgio. Inhabitants main occupation is fishing which provides them food and represents the main source of income. The settlement is also important for tourism due to its beach, the island of Sakhalin where very rare species of birds live, Erenciuc channel, the only reserve of black alder in Erurope. In recent

2 years, rural tourism has a strong development and is practiced both in households and guest houses. In terms of economic importance, the village of Sfântu Gheorghe is the largest producer of reed in the country.
