Camp staff will not apply any insect repellants or sunscreens. 2

FIRST AID The camp has an on-site first aid area staffed by qualified personnel. The camp health officer will provide appropriate first aid care and supervise the self-administration of physician required medications in accordance with New Jersey regulations. A medical doctor licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey has approved the first aid, emergency procedures, and safety operations of the camp. Additional first aid assistance is available from the State of New Jersey lifeguards. MEDICATIONS Campers requiring prescribed or over the counter medication administered at camp must (on Monday) have their parent (in-person) provide to the camp health officer sufficient medication for the week. For each type of medication, we must have a note from the child s physician and a note from the parent allowing the health staff to supervise the self-administration of medication. Your permission note needs to include the name of the medication, quantity you are providing, and the dosage schedule. Over the counter medications must be in a new sealed container. Prescribed medications must be in a pharmacy labeled container. The health officer will inventory and keep all medications and supervise the self-administration of these medications. Self-administration of asthma inhalers or Epi-pens is permitted at time of incident. The camper must be brought to the first aid after the selfadministration of rescue medications. At the end of camp parents are to make sure they pick up any remaining medications from the first aid area. EMERGENCY DURING CAMP Be certain we have the correct phone numbers to contact you. If you need to contact the camp, call 609/ or the Garden State Council office at 856/ , ext.110. If unable to reach us and you have an extreme emergency, contact Belleplain State Forest at 609/ and ask them to deliver a message. EARLY DISMISSAL If a camper needs to leave early (before the 4:00 pm departure time), you must provide advance written notification of the time he is leaving and who will be picking up the camper. If a parent is not the person coming, we must also have a note signed by the parent as well as a parent s telephone number to verify the request. Any person picking up a child will need to show a photo ID (i.e. driver s license). When you arrive to pick up the camper, report to the first aid area. The camper will be brought there for dismissal. Program staff and Den Guides have been instructed not to release a camper to anyone, including parents. Campers must know the person coming for them. All early dismissals must be recorded daily. LATE ARRIVAL & ABSENT When arriving late at camp (after 10:00 am), go to the first aid area to check-in. A staff member will direct you and your camper to the scheduled activity area. If he will be absent be certain to advise your Den Guides. SEVERE WEATHER Camp operates rain or shine so be sure to send a rain coat. However in the event of extremely severe weather, or any other emergency, it could be necessary to cancel or close early. Your Pack/GS Troop camping coordinator will be notified and they will advise you. There is no refund or credit if such a situation occurs. PARENTAL PERMISSION During the week, Campers participate in activities common to a camp that include swimming, archery, air rifle shooting, hiking, running, and working with hand tools. By completing the camper registration, you are giving permission for your child to participate in all of the camp s programs. During camp, video footage, photographs or television news videos may be taken with some images used for future camp promotional material; when you submit the registration form you are giving permission to use those images. No names will be used on any photographs. SPECIAL PROGRAMS During camp, guest speakers will be providing special programs. If your child has animal allergies, or a fear of animals or reptiles, advise then to be aware of their restrictions. If you feel it is necessary you may alert your den leaders of your concerns. LOST AND FOUND The staff assumes no liability or responsibility for lost or stolen items. Since we operate in a large, wooded area, campers should not bring excessive amounts of money or things of value to camp like jewelry, cell phones or watches. We will maintain a lost and found and identifiable items will be returned to your pack. Unidentified items will be held for seven days after the close of camp; contact the camp director. Electronics are highly discouraged. The use of cell phones during program instruction is not allowed. 3

ADVANCEMENT Camp offers activities that help your camper advance in the Scout ranks. Advancement is the responsibility of Akela (parents & den leaders). It will be up to Akela to determine the campers completion of the skill. CAR-POOLING Vehicles entering Belleplain State Forest must stop at the contact station to display the entry permit to the attendant. Failure to exhibit can result in you being charged the daily parking fee. The forest speed limit is 20 mph and NJ State Park Police can issue speeding tickets that could result in points on your driver s license. NO DROP OFFS BEFORE 9:13 AM and pick-ups take place at 4:00 PM. In the morning parents park in the center parking lot (#2) and then bring their campers to their pack s Den Guide in parking lot #3 (adjacent to the roadway). For the afternoon park in lot 2 or 3 and pick up your campers from the lakefront pavilion. You must check out the camper with your Pack s Den Guide. No drive by drop offs or pick-ups. Cub Scouts are not allowed to walk alone to the parking lot. No stopping by the Lakefront Pavilion or where the traffic cones are. When arriving at camp in the afternoon, park in lot 2, (the middle lot), or parking lot 3 (closest to the road) by the exit area. SWIMMING Swimming takes place in Lake Nummy, a spring-fed cedar lake. Water quality is tested and monitored by the State of New Jersey and the Cape May County Health Department. Swimming is under the direction of the lifeguards employed by the State of New Jersey. Campers always swim with a buddy and are supervised by the camp staff and den guides. No swim lessons are available. Because of the natural tannins in cedar lakes, you should avoid light colored or brand new swimming trunks. SECURITY Belleplain is a public state forest and our day camp operates concurrent with forest operations. The wearing of the camp T-shirt and wrist bracelets are quick, visual methods to identify participants. Campers wear their camp T-shirt every day. Everyone is to wear a wrist bracelet. Den Guides are to wear a name tag. Please try and make sure wrist bands stay on for the week. Replacement bracelets are available at the Den Guide Check-in area. LUNCHES (bring your own and water) Campers bring their lunch and lunch beverage. Insulated coolers are recommended. Belleplain State Forest is a carry-in/carry-out park (trash-free) which means campers must bring their trash home. Campers also receive a plastic bottle for water which they are to bring every day. Leaders should bring their own water container. Water coolers will be located throughout the camp. Remind your campers to drink water to stay hydrated. Water at Belleplain Forest is municipal water from the Borough of Woodbine. ARCHERY AND AIR RIFLE RANGES Campers are required to wear protective eyewear on the air rifle range. Arm guards are available for archery. Personal shooting equipment is not allowed on the ranges. Only registered campers and Den Guides may use the ranges. Parents and siblings may shoot when time permits. Campers are not permitted to bring their own rifles or bows. TRADING POST The camp may operate a scout trading post, with T-shirts from prior day camps and BSA items. There is a private concession stand at the park that offers the usual food, candy, and beverages. Because of the daily schedule, campers should not plan to purchase their lunch at the stand. SNACKS During camp, campers may be provided snacks like flavored ice pops, powdered juice mixes, ice cream, and condiments for same i.e. peanut butter, chocolate, strawberries. If your child has food allergies or dietary restrictions advise your pack and be sure to instruct your child not to participate and record it on their health record. WHAT TO WEAR Campers should wear their bathing suit to camp; changing facilities are available. On the first day of camp, each camper receives a camp T-shirt they are to wear every day. Additional shirts are available by pre-ordering and pre-paying. Shirts from prior years can also be purchased during camp. Footwear must be worn at all times, sandals or any open toed shoes are not allowed for campers. Water shoes are optional and only for the beach area. Campers receive a tote bag to keep their stuff together. Each Pack/GS Troop will have a storage area so campers do not need to carry their personal belongings all day. Be sure to send raincoats. QUESTIONS If you have any, ask your pack camping coordinator; they have additional info or know whom to contact. Belleplain State Forest is a public facility and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. If your son requires ADA assistance, contact the camp director. 4

BaySea District Cub Scout Day Camp Garden State Council, Boy Scouts of America SHARED LEADERSHIP AT DAY CAMP Many Scout parents would want to spend at least one day with their child at day camp. However family situations and economy may prevent that from happening. If a Cub Scout pack or Girl Scout troop is small; or attendance by their unit at day camp is expected to be minimal; it may be extremely difficult for that unit to provide one leader per day without causing a major inconvenience to one or two families. Often these units and families then decide to not participate in day camp. If a child wants to attend the BaySea Day camp we will do our best to make it happen. If your Pack or Girl Scout troop is dealing with a camp leadership challenge then contact the camp director or Girl Scout Coordinator and we will work to try and solve your dilemma. Understand that part of the solution may require the adult to volunteer at least one day. If your pack has 4 campers, but only two parents can volunteer as camp Den Guides for one day each, we can assign your camp den with another pack. You would then need to coordinate the Den Guide assignments with that Pack or Girl Scout troop. If no parents can serve, perhaps another pack may be willing to take responsibility for your campers. Please let s work together to make sure our Cub & Girl Scouts are given the opportunity to attend the BaySea Scout Day Camp. Should you need assistance with this you may contact other Scout leaders in your community. If you need a list of Cub Scout leaders of Packs attending contact the Day Camp Director. For Girl Scouts contact the Girl Scout coordinator.

BaySea District Cub Scout Day Camp CAMPER C ODE OF C ONDUCT PARENTS: PLEASE REVIEW THE CODE OF CONDUCT WITH YOUR SCOUT We have a really terrific volunteer staff that has planned an excellent program. Scouts come to camp to have fun, make new friends, and learn new Scout skills. Our one rule is Be Kind & Do your Best. Before you do something you think could be wrong; think about how you would feel if someone did the same thing to you. If what you may do will hurt someone or get you into trouble, then do not do it. But besides that rule, we need to have guidelines to keep you safe. You may be assigned to a camp den different than your normal pack den. This camp den will be Scouts from your pack, other BaySea Packs or Girl Scout troops. PICK A BUDDY. Everywhere you go; your buddy goes with you. Try to keep the same buddy for the week. Make sure your camp leader and den chief know who your buddy is. If you need to change your buddy ask your Den Guide. Your camp den may have adult camp Den Guides other than your regular Den Leader. However we expect you to show them respect and help them have fun at camp. DON T GO ANYWHERE WITH A STRANGER. When in doubt----scream!!!! Your den may have a Boy or Girl Scout Den Chief. Please listen to her/him. They are there to help you. CAMPERS MUST WEAR SNEAKERS OR SHOES except when swimming.no SANDALS or WATERSHOES AROUND CAMP. No running in camp except when part of a game. SHOW RESPECT AND COURTESY During your camp periods please listen to the instructions. Wear your BaySea District Cub Day camp T-shirt every day. It is how we identify our campers. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES at the air rifle range. Wrist Guards are available in Archery Bring a raincoat and make sure your name is on everything you bring. WEAR A WRIST BRACELET during camp. You must wear one every day adults must wear them too. Bring your water bottle every day and be sure to drink lots of water. (Don t forget your lunch!). DO NOT HIT, TRIP, POKE PUSH, PULL, JAB, SHOVE, KICK, or FIGHT with any other Camper or Youth Staff. If you get hurt, feel sick, get too hot or tired or have a tick on you, tell your den guide; they will bring you to first aid. STOP AND LOOK BOTH WAYS When crossing the parking lot and the road. Bathrooms are located in the brown building and a portable in the athletic field. When you go your buddy goes. DO NOT GO EXPLORING INTO THE WOODS Use only the camp trails---please stay off the forest roads. After swimming, there is a changing room located next to the lifeguard office. NEVER LEAVE YOUR DEN ALWAYS tell your den leader when you have a problem. Stay with your den and stay with your buddy. Always tell your adult leader if you have problem. NEVER GO ANYWHERE ALONE. Always have your buddy with you. Be sure to tell you leader if you must leave an area. No bad language or curse words. WHEN SWIMMING, ALWAYS HAVE YOUR BUDDY. Listen to the lifeguards and camp staff. No rough-housing in the lake. Swim safely and where you are told. If you come out of the water, so does your buddy. Don t get lost. Here is where some of the activities are.
