DAY CAMP LUAU & PARENT HANDBOOK REVIEW (MANDATORY) : Saturday, May 19, 2018 Time: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Location: Foglia YMCA Join us for our fifth annual Foglia Day Camp Luau! There will be food, games, prizes, moon bounce and more! This is a great opportunity to meet the Camp Director and some of the camp staff that will be involved this summer. In addition, families will get to see the campgrounds and facilities campers will enjoy throughout the summer. From 10:30-11 a.m. there will be a mandatory Parent Handbook Review Session for all camp participants. The Luau will be held, weather permitting, outside under the large metal explorer camp pavilion. Campers must be registered by Wednesday of the week before they attend camp. SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION All campers must hold a valid YMCA membership to receive the member rate and must remain valid through Sept 1, Complete one registration packet for each child participating. You may bring it to the Foglia YMCA Member Service Desk. Packets are available online or at the Member Service Desk. Your child s enrollment papers and releases must be submitted in their entirety the Wednesday before your child s first day of camp or they will not be able to attend camp. Please note this is for your child s safety and well-being. A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $25 per week is due at the time of registration to reserve your week(s). Deposits will go toward the total payment of the camp week. Specialty Camps must be paid in full at the time of registration. Balances are due by Wednesday, the week prior to your child attending camp or there will be a $15 late fee per child. There will be a $15 switching fee to maintain staff/camper ratios, to switch or transfer camps after the Wednesday of the week prior to camp. Full refunds or credits (minus the $25 deposit) will be given for camp only if your child is ill and has a doctor s note to accompany the request. Specialty camps fill up quickly, so we encourage registration by May 1 to reserve your spot. TRAINED STAFF Professionally trained and enthusiastic staff are the key ingredient to a positive camping experience at the Foglia YMCA. Each counselor is selected based on their skills, maturity, creativity and sensitivity to the needs of all our camp participants. All of our counselors participate in a thorough training program prior to the first camper s arrival, so you can rest assured your child s counselor will be a caring, positive and enthusiastic role model. 5 EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION Save $20 per week with the Early Bird Rate when you register on or before April 21, Early bird rate applies only to the 5-day traditional day camp option (Voyager, Adventure, Explorer and Teen Camp). All weeks must be paid in full at the time of registration to receive discount. ILLINOIS ACTION FOR CHILDREN FUNDING Action for Children (AFC) is a child care financial assistance program provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services for low-income, working families. DHS child care subsidy can take up to two months to give approval; you must plan accordingly in order to have approval before the first week of camp. Forms are available at our member service desk along with local offices. Please turn all paperwork in by April 1, 2018 in order to have approval. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE It is the goal of the YMCA to provide education, social and physical development services to people regardless of their ability to pay. Waiver or reduction of fees are available, subject to facility and program capacity and demonstrated need. Due to limited YMCA scholarship funds, we require all families in need of financial assistance to first request funding from Action for Children (AFC). If a family is denied AFC funding, they may then apply for the financial assistance scholarship that the YMCA offers. Applications are available at the YMCA and online. Applicants are required to bring the AFC denial letter and submit it with scholarship application or they will not be considered for the financial assistance program. This must be done annually. Scholarships are only available to Family Memberships. Scholarship applications will be accepted through May 15 and will be reviewed after date. DROP-OFF & PICK-UP PROCEDURES Parents are required to sign their child in and out of camp. For your convenience, we offer curbside arrival so that parents do not have to leave their car for drop-off. (For Adventure, Explorer and Teen Camp. Voyager Camp will be dropped off inside the Y) For pick-up, everyone must park and go to the sign-out table and present a photo ID. Anyone picking up your child must be listed on the Authorized to pick up my child section of the registration form. If an individual does not have a photo ID and is not listed as an authorized pick-up, we will not be able to release the child. This procedure will be strictly enforced and is for your child s protection. INSURANCE The Foglia YMCA does not carry individual camper insurance. It is the responsibility of the camper and his or her family to provide insurance. BILLING If you sign up for automatic draft, you will not receive an invoice. If you sign up for multiple weeks and do not do automatic draft, you will receive an invoice via for the session(s) you are registered for. Payment is due on the Wednesday before your child is to attend camp. Your child will not be able to attend camp if payment is not received. Specialty Camps must be paid in full upon registration. Children are encouraged to build social skills that help build upon negotiation skills, conflict resolution skills and building friendships. Our teachers are professionally trained and DCFS-certified, with continual professional development to ensure the best and most current practices in the classroom. Our preschool curriculum promotes individual children s growth through learning, exploration and creativity. The curriculum focuses on the interests of children, which creates the study topics of our lessons. Creative Curriculum promotes social, emotional and physical development, language, literacy, math cognitive skills, science and the arts. Our preschool curriculum also incorporates a variety of learning activities related to health, nutrition, and physical fitness, all of which are designed to educate and inspire children toward a love of nature and a lifetime of good health and wellness. During the summer months we spend much of our time outside exploring the natural world around us whether it is tending to our garden, bringing nature into the classroom or just enjoying what nature has to offer us. Our preschool playground will have updated materials in Children who are 3-5 years of age will be placed in the same classroom. Mixed-age groups provide children with opportunities to interact with children younger and older than them. This allows children to learn how to be nurturing, as well as leadership, social and cognitive skills. Our before care is offered from 7 to 9 a.m., preschool from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and aftercare from 3 to 6 p.m. Morning snack, catered lunch and afternoon snack are included. 7 SUMMER CAMP TRADITIONAL CAMP HOURS & EXTENDED CARE Traditional Camp runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Extended Care is available for no additional fee. It starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. in the evening. While Extended Care is less structured than regular camp hours, campers will be supervised and remain engaged in a variety of activities throughout the program. TRADITIONAL SUMMER DAY CAMPS Summer Day Camp is a lively, full-day enrichment program focused on quality, age-appropriate activities, safety and fun! Campers will experience new discoveries, develop new skills and make new friends along the way. Kids stay motivated and are encouraged to make good choices by exercising independent thinking. They are ready for more physical activity, thoughtprovoking games and activities, greater responsibility, and lots of healthy, five-year-old fun! Our Voyager Camp provides children with an exciting and enriching experience that they can take with them as they prepare for their big year in Kindergarten. Campers will enjoy the summer playing, exploring and socializing with friends, while also engaging in educational activities that prepare them for formalized schooling. Physical, mental, and social challenges will be emphasized through hands on group and individual activities. Children will spend time indoors and outdoors as experienced staff lead campers in age-appropriate, hands-on play, nature experiences, sports, swimming and off-site field trips. 9 LEADERS IN TRAINING (LIT) CAMP s: Camp Hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Location: Foglia YMCA Outdoor Pavilion ly Fee: $280 Member/$350 Non-member This leadership program is perfect for campers who are ready to take on a bit more responsibility while still enjoying the benefits of being a part of a Foglia YMCA Day Camp! Field trips, service projects and a chance to develop leadership skills are all important aspects of this program. They will have weekly meetings with their LIT mentor who will facilitate their growth in the program and help them create activities and competitions for the entire camp to enjoy! This camp is a perfect combination of fun, learning and development and will provide an outlet for their creativity. LITs must attend camp for a minimum of FOUR full consecutive weeks. COUNSELORS IN TRAINING (CIT) CAMP s: Camp Hours: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Location: Foglia YMCA Outdoor Pavilion ly Fee: $112 Member/$140 Non-member The Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a great chance for teens in high school to experience a little bit of what it s like to be a summer camp counselor. While here at camp, CITs will be responsible for helping out the counselors with day-to-day activities: responsibilities include but are not limited to helping set up games, participating in games, crafts, swimming and other camp activities. CITs will also have the opportunity to meet with their CIT mentor once a week to talk about different leadership skills and traits, plan games, activities and more. CITs go on the weekly field trip with Voyager, Adventure and Explorer Camp. Our CITs must possess a good attitude and be a positive role model for our young campers. CITs should bring a sack lunch each day as well as an afternoon snack, and a swimsuit to swim on Tu/W/Th. CITs must attend camp for a minimum of FOUR full consecutive weeks. TRADITIONAL CAMP FIELD TRIPS New for Traditional Camps this summer: This summer all traditional camp field trips are included in the weekly camp rate, no matter how many days you attend during the week. Field trips for Voyager, Adventure and Explorer Camps will be on FRIDAYS. If your camper attends camp on Friday they will go on the field trip. No camper is able to stay at the Y on field trip days. Teen Camp field trips are included in the price of camp and all teen campers attend the field trip no matter how many days they attend camp. Teen Camp field trips will happen on Wednesdays and Fridays each week. THURSDAY LUNCHES Thursday lunches will be offered June 21, July 19 and August 9. We will have special Thursday lunches each month of camp for all our traditional camps. Keep a lookout in our weekly newsletter for updates on what is being served. SUMMER CAMP SWIM LESSONS Our swim lesson program is designed to help kids develop a lifelong love of the water with competency, confidence and endurance. To reach this goal, students are introduced to stroke mechanics, water sports and games. Students will relocate and be taught based on their skill level on the first day of lessons. These lessons are only for children attending our summer camp and will run for two weeks at a time. Please register at our Member Service Desk. 10 SPECIALTY CAMPS Looking to add some extra fun for your kids during their camp? Looking to do something a little different than traditional camp? Then specialty camps are for you! With specialty camps, there is a little something for everyone. This summer, specialty camps will run either in the morning or the afternoon, Mondays through Thursdays. If you sign your camper up for a morning camp and afternoon camp in the same week, you can take part in our supervised lunch hour and make it a full day for your camper! If participating in the whole day of specialty camps, you are also eligible to use our extended care times before and after camp at no extra cost. Some specialty camps are offered in multiple weeks. Fees listed are for each individual session. All camps are held at the Foglia YMCA unless otherwise noted. Please check each camp s individual description for more information. We reserve the right to cancel specialty camps due to low enrollment. SPECIALTY CAMP DROP-OFF & PICK-UP All specialty camps will meet at the large pavilion for drop-off and pick-up. Keep a look out for an ed memo the week prior to the specialty camp your child is attending. The memo will have specific information needed for that week. CRAFTY BEAVERS Does your child love to paint, draw and create? In this camp we ll work with a variety of mediums, duct tape, recycled materials and more. They will learn that all it takes is a little imagination to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces! 1 9 June 4-7 July 30-Aug BUILDING MASTER S Do you love to build and create stuff from blocks, Legos or other materials? During this camp, campers will be challenged to build different structures, contraptions and objects from different building materials. These materials will include, Lego blocks, paper, wood, K nex and more! Campers will be challenged individually and in groups. Come build with us this summer! 2 June THE HUNGRY GAMES Have you ever imagined what it would be like to operate a restaurant or bakery? During the Hungry Games, young budding chefs and entrepreneurs will participate in the challenge to launch their own restaurant. Through out the week, campers will prepare delicious recipes, as well as visit a local restaurant or bakery to see how it operates! Do you have what it takes to volunteer as tribute? 3 June $210/$237 Y SCIENTISTS Welcome future scientists! 11 AMERICAN RED CROSS BABYSITTING Are you constantly being asked to babysit or watch your younger siblings when your parents are gone? This camp is for anyone who is looking to make some money during the summer or school year babysitting. We will provide you with the necessary skills needed to give safe care for infants and children while babysitting, including handling misbehavior, recognizing an emergency and identifying safety-related problems and resolutions. 5 July 2,3 & M/T/TH $156/$180 STEM & ROBOTICS This camp will inspire campers to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. 6 6 July 9-12 July $210/$ $220/$247 WATER ADVENTURES We will learn several water games, hop off the diving board and swim past anything that comes near us. Bring your mask and fins, and we ll teach you how to dive to the depths in search of treasures, clear your mask while underwater and finally be able to use those snorkels and fins on vacation instead of staying on the shore. 7 July NEW THIS SUMMER! THEATRE CAMP During this 2-week camp, campers will be collaborating and working together to create an original play. This play will then be presented at our annual Foglia Talent Show on July 27. Campers will write, create and build this play from the ground up! Campers must attend both weeks of this camp. No exceptions. 7 & 8 July July $360/$ ART JAM During this week campers will do an artist study each day and then re-create one of their famous pieces. Artists can include Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Vincent Van Gogh. Let the painting begin! 10 Aug FASHION CAMP Do you know a fashionista who loves to make their own stuff? This camp is for them. 12 FULL-DAY SPECIALTY CAMPS All campers who attend Full-Day Specialty Camps are eligible for Extended Care hours before and after camp (at no additional cost). THE GREAT OUTDOORS Do you love to hike? Do you enjoy being out in nature? During this week we will travel to different forest preserves, hiking trails, outdoor obstacles courses and more! Bring water, sunscreen and your sense of adventure. 1 June 4-8 DOWN ON THE FARM This camp will explore how a farm works. We will visit many different farms in the area, from growing food to raising animals. Be prepared to get dirty as we have some down on the farm fun! 2 June WATER PARK Water Park Camp is back. Campers will have fun with their friends all day, while parents take a break and let our trained aquatic and child care staff ensure your children are having fun. This camp will feature a different water park every day, so bring a friend and let s head out to the water park! Children must be able to swim and should come to the YMCA already in their bathing suits June July July 30-Aug 3 HOW IT S MADE: FOOD EDITION Are you a foodie? Do you ever wonder how food is really made? Then join us for a week of learning just that. Locations can include Palermo s Pizza, Oberweis Dairy, The Official Jelly Belly Factory and more. 4 June ANIMAL ADVENTURES If you love animals and are always wanting to learn more about them, check out this specialty camp. We will spend the week traveling to different zoos and spending some time learning about the different animals at each one July 2,3, 5, 6 Aug 6-10 M-T & Th-F $364/$456 FIELD TRIP EXTRAVAGANZA Join us as we travel to many different field trip locations. This camp is offered twice this summer. Once for our younger campers and once for the older campers. Trips might include an arcade, zip lining, a day in the city, bowling and more! 6 8 July 9-13 July ALL ABOUT SKATES We are wild about skating; roller skating, ice skating and skateboarding! We will spend this week traveling to different ice rinks, roller rinks and skate parks. Helmets are a must and you can bring your own skates and boards. 13 YOUTH SPORTS SPECIALTY CAMPS BASEBALL What better way to spend the afternoon than learning the great American pastime. Campers will learn all the basic skills to ready them for upcoming leagues, including catching, base running, throwing and batting, and much more. Don t forget your spikes, gloves and water bottles. We play at Hawthorn Woods Park or Heritage Oaks. 1 June 4-7 $156/$180 BOWLING Learn the proper techniques and skills or just come for a good time. This camp is for all ages and ability levels and is right up your alley. It s a game that allows you to eat food, have a good time and compete against friends. Bring a friend or 10 and let the good times roll! 2 June BASKETBALL Kids ages will learn and improve upon the fundamentals of basketball including dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense. Camp will also consist of individual and group drills for advanced skill building. Through 3 on 3 and 5 on 5 gameplay, teamwork is an essential part of basketball that will be focused on throughout the week. Kids will not only improve upon their overall game skills, but will engage in social interaction and have a fun and safe place to play the game of basketball. 3 June $156-$180 MINI GOLF You asked for it, and now it s back again and better than ever. With hundreds of courses across America, we ll take 4 days to dedicate ourselves to various mini golf locations in the area. 14 DANCE, TUMBLE & CHEER Do you like to dance, tumble over the couch and do flips around the house? Are you ready to become a school cheerleader? Then come to this camp where you ll learn some basic dance and tumbling moves, then put it all together to practice a full routine. 5 July 2, 3,5 M, Tu, Th $156/$180 ROCK WALL CLIMBING Some things are just meant to be climbed. Join our adventure staff and learn the techniques of rock climbing and knot tying or improve alreadyestablished skills. The confidence when you make it to the top of the wall is terrific! We will even use some of the other adventure obstacles that will really bring you to new heights. 6 July 9-12 $156/$180 FISHING Join us for more fishing down by the pier, waterhole and right in our own backyard! (Catch and release, of course.) Participants will learn the basics of fishing and reeling, as well as the standard procedure for catch and release. 7 9 July July 30- Aug 2 TENNIS This camp is always jam-packed, so register early.
