1 MAY 2018 NEWSLETTER CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Hello to all and welcome to e May edition of e club newsletter. Finally e weaer has improved and as I write is e sun is shining down from a blue sky. I was pleasantly surprised by e attendance to our two new mid mon meetings which started in April. A small group met at e Farm House for e evening get togeer. Alough called e "petrol head " evening, a whole range of topics were discussed including a change in e timing of e event to make more of e light Summer evenings. The food was also very good. Please see furer info in is letter from Pam. The coffee morning at Jersey Pearl was also a success, many taking e opportunity to bring out eir classics in e fine weaer. There is a lot of information in is letter regarding a busy time ahead, please read carefully so at you don't miss any upcoming events. I would like to welcome back to e club Mr John Sowerby and Ms Angela Harvey-Jones. It is wi sadness at I have to announce e passing of two long standing club members, Mrs Dany Le Gros and Mr Dave Gardner on e 17 April. The club would like to extend its condolences to e spouses, George and Odette and eir families. Cheers for now Tim. CLUB NEWS The Jersey Festival of Motoring is e biggest motoring event held on e Island and once again is year we have been invited to participate to show off our classic vehicles. This includes all types of transport from tractors to commercials and static engines. It would also be great to see a good display of cars and motor bikes. We will be doing a cavalcade on e Friday evening which includes parking on e waterfront before and after in order to view e sprints. On Saturday and Sunday e usual static displays will be held on e lower park, entry on e East bound side of Victoria Avenue. Hope to see you all ere. CLUB TREASURER Matew Chambers our club treasurer announced at e 2017 AGM at he would be standing down from is position at e end of is financial year. The job consists of looking after e club's bank account, attending committee meetings and preparing a set of accounts once a year for e Annual General Meeting. I am asking members to give is role some consideration and if anyone feels ey would like to put eir name forward to help wi e running of e club please get in touch and come and have a chat wi me. CLUB PHOTOGRAPHER When we have car runs or static displays, is any member interested to take digital photos for us please, to record e event. The photos will en be transferred onto our club website and used in e monly Newsletter. Thanks Tim

2 FEBRUARY CAR OF THE MONTH: Martin & Jane L'Enfant Our Ford Consul Mk II Lowline was 1st registered on 16-Jan-1960 to Lawrence Motors (Luxicabs) who used it as a taxi until April 1965, where it was bought by Stanley D Le Montais, who owned it for 35 years. After which it changed hands a few times and in 2004 Ken & Colin Surcouf were going to take on e project but felt at its condition was too poor to tackle. However, before scrapping e vehicle ey left it in our shed, where, over time it grew on us and we decided to take on e work ourselves. After stripping e vehicle, we realised at it was not beyond our capabilities, alough it would take time... and it has years in total. During is time it has been heavily modified, e bulkhead was cut to accommodate a 302 small block Ford, mated wi a Supra W58 5HD gearbox, Vecta seats and pedals etc. Far too many mods to mention here, oer an changing e colour from black to Ford dark aubergine and we are now driving e dream.. Easter Run and Lunch - April 1st What a great Easter Run and excellent lunch at e Monterey Hotel. The service was wonderful and e staff extremely helpful, and I hope many of you were very impressed. Well done to all who decorated eir cars and I ink we shall all be on e look out for decorations for next year! Perhaps we could add a prize next year for e best Easter socks! I have already booked e venue again for 2019.

3 PETROL HEADS The Petrol Head Evenings started on Thursday April 12, venue The Farm House at 7.30pm. Nine members attended and it was a cosy evening in e Pub Bar. Some of us ate and some just had a few drinks. Everyone enjoyed chatting all ings to do wi vehicles of all kinds and exchanged stories and had a good laugh. I hope at more will attend on Thursday May 17. There will be one adjustment, anyone wishing to eat should come along at 6.30pm and if you wish to just have a drink you can come later, but it is really up to you. This is a very relaxed evening. LEISURELY CHATS The Leisurely Chats over a cup or two of coffee began on Tuesday 17 April at 10.30am, venue Jersey Pearl, St Ouen, 30 people attended which is wonderful. The fine weaer helped and long may is continue. Unfortunately I had to miss is event due to having double booked myself wi my Ikebana class - Japanese flower arranging for ose of you who don't know what it is. I apologise but I am sure you all had a very good time. Frank, my oer half, said it was extremely good and many visitors took e opportunity of having a look at e Classics in e car park. Well done! See you next mon on Tuesday, 15 May. QUIZ NIGHT in aid of e Jersey Eisteddfod Friday June 8 I am also involved wi e Spring Festival of e Jersey Eisteddfod. Due to e bad weaer in January ey were not able to hold eir annual Quiz Night to raise funds for e Festival. Anyone who is keen on Quizzes and would like to form a team of 6, please contact Mrs P Romeril on tel or pip.romeril@gmail.com. The Quiz will take place in e Assembly Room, Town Hall at 7.15pm on e above date. Doors open at 6.45pm. The price is 12 and it includes a Buffet Supper but bring your own drinks. Tables of 6 and choose a name for your table e.g. The Classics or The Jags etc. There will be a raffle. If anyone has ever been to visit e Jersey Eisteddfod Festival of Arts and Craft at e RJA & HS in March, ey will realise what a good cause it is and what talent ere is on is island. SOAP BOX CHALLENGE at Glacis field, Sou Hill area. This is on from till 4.00 so should be a good visit after our Sunday morning meeting. Soap box racing involves racing downhill in home built go-karts, no engines, check it out on YouTube. Parking in Pier Road car park, food outlets on site. FRIDAY JUNE 1st. CAVALCADE & MOONLIGHT SPRINTS at Victoria Avenue. We will be parking on e waterfront promenade in between La Fregate & e Radisson Hotel bo before & after e cavalcade, a nice area to display our vehicles. Please arrive from 5.30pm & no later an 6.30pm, e cavalcade will be at 7.00pm. Please fill & return attached entry form to Tim Pallot, Petit Pre, Rue des Pres, St Clement, JE2 6QL by May 18 or you may also just turn up on e evening but please bring a signed entry form wi you. Route instructions: At e roundabout on top of e underpass drive towards e harbour, at e next roundabout on e approach to e harbour office, turn right towards e waterfront complex. Follow e road towards Cine World and just after e last big building on e left ere is a pedestrian road way at runs along e top of e marina and behind e Radisson. Drive along is walkway at 5MPH towards e tree of life en bare right towards La Fregate where one of our club members will meet you. At 7.00 pm you will travel from La Fregate to First Tower and back to La Fregate and disperse e same way as you came in, or park up and watch There will be orange arrows showing e route in from e underpass roundabout.
