The Coach House Originally part of the Glentruim Estate Stables, the Coach House has lost none of its rustic charm, but has been updated to create a luxuriously comfortable and cosy retreat for four. It is listed Category C(S) by Historic Scotland. The accommodation comprises kitchen, sitting room, en suite bedroom, further bedroom and bathroom. With solid oak floors throughout the beautifully designed kitchen and sitting room, and a warming, wood-burning stove to relax beside, this is the perfect place to unwind and watch red squirrels foraging for food in the surrounding trees. Gate Lodge Situated on the southeast of Glentruim House by the entrance gates, this is a single storey cottage of traditional stone construction that has been sensitively updated. The lodge, the gates and piers are listed category C(S) by Historic Scotland. It contains a lovely carpeted living and dining area with a wood-burning stove, a king sized bedroom, a twin room, and a bathroom with a beautiful freestanding bath for soaking weary limbs after a day in the hills. Outside, there is a private garden with dining furniture for warmer summer evenings. Laundry Cottage Tucked away behind the stable block, Laundry Cottage is delightfully private, with its own breath-taking views down the Spey Valley to the tiny village of Laggan. Laundry Cottage is a one-bedroom haven fitted with a cosy woodburning stove, a beautiful sitting room and a king size bedroom. Wedding Lodge A charming lodge in the walled garden in the grounds of Glentruim, which can host intimate ceremonies for up to 70 guests. 8 Gardens & Grounds Tucked away in the grounds are three idyllic cottages: Coach House, Gate Lodge and Laundry Cottage. Glentruim Estate in surrounded by enchanting woodland, and unparalleled views of the Spey Valley and Monadhliath and Cairngorm mountains. Against this rugged backdrop, the castle and cottages are set upon lawned gardens and grounds that have long been acknowledged as some of the most beautiful in the central Highlands. The Business Glentrium operates principally as an exclusive venue for weddings and other functions. The main house sleeps 14 and there are also 4 cottages which can be booked on an individual basis. There is potential to expand trade into a full service hotel trading to the high end of the hospitality market. Full trading information will be made available to parties after formally viewing the property. Wedding Lodge Historical Note The Glentruim branch of the Macpherson family has lived in its present home since the early part of the last century. At that time it was purchased from the Duke of Gordon, before which the family had lived nearby for almost 1,000 years. They are descended from the family of Cluny Macpherson, Chief of the Clan Macpherson, which in centuries past played such a significant part in the history of the Highlands. The family are the last descendants still having land in Badenoch.
9 Below Glentruim on the flat fields in the valley of the River Spey is a place where in 1398 was fought the battle of Invernahavon. At that time the Clans Macintosh, Macpherson and Davidson formed Clan Chattan and together they owned all the land between Glentruim and Inverness; becoming very powerful, they started to levy taxes on their neighbours, the Camerons. The Camerons marched into Invernahavon but before the battle took place the Macphersons insisted that they have the place of honour on the right flank and when their allies the Macintoshes and Davidsons refused they retired from the battle to the glacial ridges immediately below Glentruim, which can still be seen today. However, when their allies were in danger of losing the battle they drew their swords and put the Camerons to flight. They pursued the Cameron Chief, called Charles, where they caught up with him and killed him. To this day the hill is called Corharlich. After the battle of Culloden in 1746, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Chief of Clan Macpherson hid in the mountains south of Glentruim and when the Prince escaped to France, Cluny Macpherson, the Chief, hid in a cave on the opposite side of the valley and within sight of Glentruim. He remained in hiding for nine years with a reward of 1,000 for his capture but nobody betrayed him, and eventually he too, following the Prince s footsteps, escaped to France.
10 When the present house was built, its development was described by Lord Cockburn in his diaries in the early part of the last century. There is a strange wild place called Glentruim on the left hand going north, the progress of which I have been marking since ever it began a few years ago. It is the work of an Indian army officer I believe who no doubt having run about in a torn kilt here in his youth has set about the task of making a habitable residence in this most inhospitable part of the whole Strath. However, since he has had the courage to begin and to live there I predict it will one day become a fine and not uncomfortable Highland place. Location The historic Glentruim Estate is located near the confluence of the Rivers Spey and Truim, three miles south of the village of Newtonmore. It is at the gateway to the Cairngorms National Park, Britain s largest National Park and the geographical heart of Scotland. The Cairngorms National Park Authority works together with others to ensure that the unique aspects of the Park - the natural environment, the cultural heritage and the local communities are cared for, sustained and enhanced for current and future generations to enjoy. The local countryside combines the rugged beauty and timeless enchantment of the Scottish Highlands and for the outdoor enthusiast there is a vast range of pursuits including hillwalking, skiing, cycling, mountain biking, fishing and shooting. There are numerous places of interest within easy driving distance. The Estate is easily accessible by road, rail and air. The A9 (T) provides rapid road travel to Glasgow and Edinburgh and the south, and north to Inverness and beyond. There are mainline railway stations at Newtonmore (3 miles), Kingussie (6 miles) & Aviemore (18 miles) which offer a range of services as well as a sleeper service to London. Inverness airport is only 55 miles north of Glentruim, with frequent daily flights to Manchester, London and Bristol. Please note that the services have not been checked by the selling agent. The owners have installed a 130KW pellet fed boiler that sits beside a hopper capable of storing 20 tons of pellets at any time. The hopper is oversized to reduce the frequency of deliveries. The boiler provides hot water and heating to the main house, Coach house, Laundry cottage, Pipers cottage and the Wedding lodge via underground pipes. The boiler can be remotely accessed allowing the boiler to be monitored and maintained by an engineer without having to attend site. This also allows control of the heating and hot water without having to be on site. The amount of heat used is measured Via a meter as it enters each of the dwellings. This reading is then submitted to Ofgem periodically throughout the year Gate Lodge
11 Gate Lodge and then qualifies under the RHI (renewable heat incentive) programme for a repayment back to the end user relative to the amount of heat used. The repayment is index related and guaranteed for 20 years. Additional information is available on request. Gate Lodge is just inside the gates on the left side. Glentruim House is approximately 400 metres along the driveway.
