If you do not pay for your beverage, we will not be able to continue to stock them. Thank you. WE ARE PROUD This month s special someone is the daughter of Jim and Barbara Caramore. They write: Amy Caramore has been in Africa for the past five months, as a member of the staff of Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres). Amy is a Registered Nurse who was first sent to Kenya, serving in a refuge camp a short distance from the border with Somalia, until her group was evacuated as a result of the kidnapping of two doctors on their staff by terrorists from Somalia. After a short trip home, in early December she was then sent to South Sudan where she is expected to be until May. The threat of danger from terrorists seems to be less but one of the trade-offs is that the current average daytime temperature is between 110 degrees and 120 degrees; the threat now is from drought and famine. Amy has the title of Outreach Manager and one of her responsibilities is tracking the vaccination history of children under the age of six years, a monumental task. To date it appears that only about 10% of the children have been vaccinated and, of course, in addition to tracking numbers, she is also responsible for getting these children vaccinated, another monumental task. Amy s experiences since the start of this venture could fill many pages, but this is enough for now. We are very proud of her and what she is doing. Now it is your turn. Who do you want to brag about? FYI CLOTHING NEEDED When you clean out your closets, if you have any clean, usable clothing you no longer want, call Bruno Meloni at He will collect them and take them to the Living Waters Church, Riverhead, for use by the needy in the town. They take shoes, as well as clothing. OTHER DONATIONS: If you have furniture or other household items you no longer want or need, Timothy Hill Children s Ranch will take them. They will come and pick-up in a very short time. Call All items are tax deductible. **************** Do you know the speed limits in our community? Some of us are forgetting that it is only 15 mph. Please try to heed it and remind your guests and workers as well.
7 The mailbox in the clubhouse for The Breeze is now being used as a suggestion box for the Social Committee as well. Any ideas you may have for them may be dropped in the box. Please note: this is not for maintenance or landscaping forms. Thanks. And one more thing: The Web address for Windcrest East is The Breeze is published on this site as well as other information for all homeowners. The address for The Breeze is: thewebreeze@optonline.net. All community activities, notices and other information to be added to The Breeze or the calendar must be submitted in writing, not later than the 25 th of the month. AROUND TOWN: Calverton / Baiting Hollow Civic Association meets every 2nd Wednesday of each month, at 7:30 p.m. in the Riley Avenue School cafeteria. COMPUTER TIPS by Jack Tyniec & Frank Cavallaro Wireless Home Network Security Connecting computers and even printers has usually involved running cables between them. More recently, connecting or networking computers and printers involves wireless technology. The setup is usually fairly simple. The Internet connection comes in from your provider (Cablevision, Verizon or others) and is connected to a wireless access point or router which broadcasts the signal throughout your house. In the past - these wireless routers had to be purchased separately for between $30 and $40 - but some providers now included a wireless router as part of their service. Since most portable devices (laptops, tablets, and smartphones) come with wireless network adapters built in - they're ready to go right out of the box. Wireless networks do have a limited range - but the signal can easily reach your neighbor's house if it's 50' - 100' away from your wireless router. To avoid eavesdropping - both malicious and unintentional - it is best to secure your network with encryption technologies. That doesn t mean you shouldn t use wireless networking. You just have to take some basic precautions to make your system secure and make it more difficult for anyone to get into your personal information. One of the best ways to do so is to write down your network name (SSID) and the security code, which should be a minimum of eight digits. For a more complete discussion please see: Opening Attachments Some people have trouble opening or viewing attachments. There are security settings in Outlook and Outlook Express in the Options menu. Some attachments can contain viruses and these programs prevent them from being opened. You can override these settings but you might be putting your computer at risk. Another problem could be that an attachment you receive might not be in a format that you are able to view if you do not have a program installed on your computer that can be associated with the attachment's file extension. A file with a.doc extension can be opened with Microsoft Word. Any.htm or.html attachment would open Internet Explorer or another browser such as Chrome, or Firefox. If you do not have a program installed on your computer that is associated with the file type, you will be prompted to "Open with?". File formats supported by the Apple Macintosh Operating System may not be supported by PC Operating System.
