3 Minutes cont. There was no new correspondence or FMDAC news. It was brought up that Don Bogli has been feeling a bit under the weather. Don has been a long time member and is a great guy. A motion was raised to allow the Club to purchase a hat for him. The motion passed unopposed. A reminder was put out to stop by the head table to pick up your Membership cards and YTC badges if you haven t done that already. Upcoming Hunts There are several beach hunts upcoming over the summer. Hunts at Rocky Neck and Hammonasset beaches are in the works. Keep an eye out in future issues of the Probe and at meetings for updates as the hunts get closer. II. Old Business Any club member may attend the Executive Board meetings. The meetings are usually held the week before the regular club meeting. If you have an interest in attending, you can contact any member of the board for the date, time and place. Contact information for the board members is listed in the Probe. The club has an incentive to attend the monthly meetings and other club events. Each time you come to a meeting or event, stop at the head table and get a ticket to fill out. Every meeting you attend or other event, you will get an additional ticket. At the end of the year a drawing will be held for one ounce silver rounds. T-shirt and hat update: Dave G. gave an update on the YTC hats and shirts. Orders should be finalized so we can put the order in. A request was made to appropriate up to $200 to purchase hats and shirts to make the minimum amount needed to get the quoted price. The motion was passed unopposed. If we have some extra s they would make good prizes for future hunts. We are looking to get the items delivered in May. This year is the club s 40th Anniversary. If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions or ideas on how we can celebrate the occasion, please contact any member of the Executive Board. Polar Bear hunt Recap approximately 54 members attended. The weather was good and everything was found. Thanks to all who those who volunteered and brought in food. Ken G. won the contents of the Treasure Chest which roughly consisted of $5 in face value of silver, a sliver dollar, $12 in currency/clad and 23 foreign coins of absolutely no value. Richard MacRobbie (Mac) also participated in the giving. He gave away a gold and a silver ring to two lucky members. Overall a great day. A recap of the Boy Scout Camp hunt in Plymouth, CT was given by Jeff C. Saturday was the big day for attendance with about 33 members attending. Sunday attendance of 11 members was much less due to the 3 of snow received overnight and during the hunt. It was reported that about silver coins were found over the two days along with many scouting items. With the entry fees and additional donations, the club was able to donate $242 to the Boy Scouts. III. New Business - 3 -

4 Club Business cont. III. New Business We have had some long time volunteers that have been helping with the food and drinks for the monthly meetings. Many thanks to those individuals who help keep us fed and refreshed for the meeting, Bob Brock, John Cabral & Phil Skewes. We are looking for a new volunteer to take over the duties of making the coffee for the meetings. It is a great way to contribute to the club that is relatively painless. A vote was taken to appropriate $600 for renewal of the meeting space at the Pitkin Center for next year. The meetings will be held on Wednesdays in the large banquet room. The motion was passed. Upcoming meeting programs: May Pequot update, June Mike Russo will discuss a strategy on when to buy and sell your precious metals. He will also evaluate any jewelry you bring in and have questions about, July Detector Demo day, August 40 th anniversary party with a Moonlight Madness hunt, & September the Metal Detecting Game, we need a volunteer to run this and are looking for donations to fill the board. Ken G. volunteered to head up the 40 th anniversary committee. Bob Daniels volunteered to make the arrangements for the cake. Thanks to Ron, Rick & Melissa Yingling for providing the food for the evening. The topic of discussion for the evening was given by Bruce Morris who spoke about what you can do to protect yourself from ticks and other nuisances that could be encountered while detecting. Bruce recommended DEET for application to your skin and Permethrin for applying to your clothes. Please make sure you check for ticks after bushwhacking and detecting. Ticks can harbor some nasty diseases including Lyme disease. If you find a tick on you try to save it to show the doctor. Be careful while removing the tick. Use tweezers, grab the tick as close to the head as possible and pull using firm pressure to pull the tick out. Be careful that you don t squeeze the tick while trying to remove it. To keep other pests away, carry pepper spray or bear spray. The following individuals finished various levels of the Challenge Hunts: Matt Dakin and Dave Gregorski completed Level 1, Jeff Pelletier completed Level 2, Roger Moyles completed Level 1&2 and Tom Wiczkowicz completed Levels 1, 2 & 3. Raffles: 50/50 Bob Daniels Silver Dollar Alan Huot Silver half dollar Ken Faulkner Attendance Draw Robert Gerent Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m

7 CHECKERBOARD Posted by Bill Wright Bruce Peltier: Reale A find that Bruce will never forget and many of us who have been detecting for many years only dream of finding. Roger Moyles: 1910 S Barber Half Roger made this find at a permission in Glastonbury that has produced over 80 nice coins. Danny Gervais: 1749 Farthing This find was made at a supposedly hunted out local park. Go slow and turn down the sensitivity. Bill Wright: 2 Buffalo Nickels Same Hole Found at the Boy Scout Camp. It was a good hunt for many of us. Jeff Calzarette: Kaiser & Co. Tailors Token & 9 Coin Spill Found at the edge of a dirt road. The more Jeff dug, the more popped out. Tom Wisczkowicz: 1973 Penney High School Ring Found at a park. It was reading as a pull tab. Good reason to dig everything. Ken Gudernatch: Sterling & Gold Filled U.S. Navy Ring Found at the Scout Camp. It was found right next to a dig spot. Bob Daniels: Owl Pin Found at an old site that produced this and a couple of wheat pennies. Bob Daniels: 1920 s Toy Gun Found at a site that has been hit repeatedly. A new coil produced this and some other nice finds. Jeff Pelletier: Infantry Officers Coat Button Found at a field in Hamden. There was a part of the field in the middle that was a little higher and darker. This produced most of the good stuff. Bruce Peltier: Colonial Door Plate Found in a wooded area that Bruce knew contained some old home sites. Mike Stanczyc: 1943 Pepsi Bottle Found at a place that Mike hadn t detected before. The bottle was sticking out of the weeds. Matthew Poling: Build a Bear Heart Found in a very clean field

8 FOR SALE Garrett Infinium LS Metal Detector. Purchase price over $1, new. This detector has never been used.. It comes with 2 sets of headphones, 1 water and 1 land. Asking $800 but reasonable offers are welcome. If you are interested in this item contact Jeff Calzarette. Detectorists Submitted by Mike Stanczyc There are a few shows out about metal detecting. Most of them are a function of reality TV. I had heard about a show that was available through Netflix called Detectorists. It is written, directed and stars Mackenzie Crook. For those of you who were/are Pirates of the Caribbean fans, Mackenzie is the skinny pirate who keeps losing his eyeball. I found it very entertaining and pretty accurate as far as metal detecting goes. It is a bit of a comedy and drama combined. Currently there are only the 6 shows of the first season available on Netflix. There is a second season that has been filmed, but it is not yet available. You may be able to find it somewhere out there on the internet though. I would recommend watching it if you can. You ll probably find yourself in the same position I was in after watching it, wanting more adventures from the Danebury Metal Detecting Club. Retail: $1, Meeting Dates William J. 9 Some Thoughts By Bruce Kramer, Probe Editor I guess this process is done by everyone breathing, at least I hope so. I was thinking awhile back about highlighting members in the club, nothing too personal but maybe a few facts about them so we can get to know them better. How can I do this without giving anybody the wrong impression???? I m not looking to dig into their personal issues etc. I just want to know what you like to do, hobbies besides MD ing. So I decieded to do ME first so you can get an idea what I m looking for, so here goes.. My name is Bruce Kramer. I live in Manchester with my wife Mary Ann and cat. I have 3 daughters and each has a family, I also have 6 grand kids. I love to fish, go camping and of course metal detect most of all with the club. YTC is the only MD club I belong to but maybe others in the future. I am ex-navy Communication Tech, Retired Volunteer Fireman, and an EMT and EMT Instructor. I am also a Amateur Radio nut, Emergency Communications Operator. I enjoy being out doors and being with friends doing fun stuff (MD ing, fishing etc.) My best find was the first Merc I found, I didn t know it was a merc until I washed it off at home. My scariest moment was when I volunteered to do the PROBE, I m still shaking a bit but am getting less shaky. Well I hope you enjoyed my Bio and found out a little about me so now it s your turn, send me some info about yourself so we can get to know each other. Thanks for reading.
