1 Celebrating 36 years! Crankshaft Journal Editor: Richard Heyman The Central Fraser Valley Chapter Newsletter of the Vintage Car Club of Canada for back issues and more, go to our website: fraservalley.vccc.com VCCC website: Celebrating 36 years! 1 April 2018 Our next meeting: May 2 Table of Contents Quotes from Qualicum pg. 1 April 2018 Minutes pg. 2 SVABC AGM Highlights pg. 3 For Sale/Wanted pg. 5 Expertise pg. 8 Regalia pg Executive pg. 9 Quotes from Qualicum- Ray and Linda Lamb To: the Central Fraser Valley Chapter From Ray and Linda Lamb Here is QUOTES FROM QUALICUM for this month. Hi to everyone. Last Sunday, we attended the Nanaimo Chapter VCC meeting in Nanoose Bay. It was held in a house that had been converted into their clubhouse. In the basement they have a hobby area where they are working on projects. We didn t see this area but surmised that they were restoring a car there, a Ford Model N ( ) it turned out to be. Different from the Fraser Valley Chapter, the Nanaimo chapter meetings are held on Sunday afternoons. Steve Harris, the president, introduced us and another new couple from south of Nanaimo to the meeting. The business meeting included a lot of discussion about their upcoming Swap Meet on June 3. (Remember when???) Lots of volunteers were being requested so in a way it brought back memories of our past Swap Meets. Then came the fun part of the meeting, a Brown Bag auction. Everyone had a chance to bid on various mystery items concealed in brown bags (items that other members had donated). Successful bidders - including Ray - opened their purchases and oohed and ahhhd over their new possessions. Ray reacquainted himself with a governor he had known from meetings in Merritt and Linda met people who had also moved to the island from Langley. We enjoyed the event, and then headed for home. Others stayed for a pot luck dinner at the clubhouse. It was an enjoyable day and a new experience. We think of all of you as we are slowly settling into our new home. It sure is hard to go from a 30 by 40 foot shop to a 10 by 10 barn. Take care all! Ray and Linda

SVABC AGM Highlights March 24, 2018 Annual General Meeting Highlights Specialty Vehicle Association of B.C. Saturday, March 24th West Langley Lions Hall What an enthusiastic group! We arrived an hour early to find a dozen cars in the parking lot and the chairs & tables set up, ready to go. -Anna and Noel presented a PowerPoint on the BC Vintage Truck Museum. They have volunteer hours invested. and, once again, the group is searching for a new building. -Guest speakers from ICBC, Mike, Byron, & Neil answered questions for 90 minutes! a) Your Drivers License comes with $1M underinsured motorist protection (UMP) If your child, or grandchild, who lives with you, is injured they are also covered. Vintage plates are not covered, but the DL gives you $1 M coverage. It is important to have coverage as tourists may not have UMP. b) ICBC s Expenses/Revenue Ratio is profitable. c) low lustre paint is acceptable but not primer. d) Collector Plate Vehicles must be stock, Modified must meet certain criteria. e) the original VIN stays with your vehicle. Officially it is illegal to remove a VIN plate. f) Collector Plates will now be available in the broker s office..no waiting. This is a pilot project and currently 64 brokers have inventory, eventually all will have their own stock. It takes 3 times longer to reject an application than to approve it.

4 g) New online application will be coming in a few months and a Modified Collector plate for motorcycles is months away. h) discussion about a plate for survivors, Vintage Plate? i) It is permitted to drive your collector or modified-plated vehicle to school..after hours. i.e. for graduations, football games, special events, etc. And for picking up groceries! but not part way to work or school. j) Collector and Modified cars qualify for the Multi Plate; rate is based on the most expensive. The cars not being driven when the plate is in use, revert to Storage Insurance. k) The new BC Budget announced a tax on luxury cars ($ ,) l) ICBC s $1.3 B loss is from basic insurance coverage; the province may take profits from the Optional Coverage. m) Please complete the ICBC survey by April 5th deadline. To contact Neil or Mike ICBC Collector Dept Contact # & Discussion about having SVABC consider having an Associate membership for auto-related businesses with no vote or other influence, but would increase SVABC s clout with government. Both businesses and members worry about the future of our hobby. Welcome Mark Erickson, our newest Director. 4
