2 Recognition: - Ernie McNaughton Membership Chairman presents two of our more senior members with their year bars. What Make & Year? To enter you must e mail your answer to kamshafteditor@gmail.com before it is given in the next Kamshaft. Last Month s Winner {John Rostron} Answer {1960 Corvair Corvan} Engel & Audrey Bouwmeester {35 years} ROOF TOP PARKING John & Laverne Duerksen {40 Years} CARNATION MILK AD 65 YRS AGO- THIS IS PRICELESS A little old lady from Wisconsin had worked in and around her family dairy farm since she was old enough to walk, with hours of hard work and little compensation. When canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores in approximately the 1940s, she read an advertisement offering $5,000 for the best slogan. The producers wanted a rhyme beginning with 'Carnation Milk' is best of all. She thought to herself, I know all about milk and dairy farms. I can do this! She sent in her entry, and several weeks later, a black limo pulled up in front of her house. A man got out and said, 'Carnation LOVED your entry so much, we are here to award you $2,000 even though we will not be able to use it!' True story 2

3 Thanks, to the weather and all those that came out and especially to the McCormicks, Foley's, Kermode's, and the Wourms for opening their garages for us to have a look at. When the tour was over we stopped by the new Subway Café in Dallas for lunch. The tables got moved together so members could visit. A great way to finish the tour. As a newer member I enjoyed meeting some people I didn't know before and saw some fascinating old machinery of all sorts. I'm looking forward to the Fall Tour and if you would like to open up your garage for a tour please contact me. 4 Once Again Adopt a Road and BBQ with Pot Luck Lunch Someone ask me how many years we have been doing this but no one seems to know when we started. I can only go back in my records to 2008 and they show that we have had least 11 BBQ s and pot lucks here at the house. I am sure we started before It was nice to have Mel & Christi Nordal, Bruce and Simone Bawtree & daughter come out for the first time. When I was picking up the 24 A & W Coupons, signs and bags from the city they made the comment that we were fortunate to have so many come out to help. I told her that I think it is because of the BBQ following the clean up. This year was a little different as this year we picked up a set of dresser draws, a full size truck seat and three 5 gallon pails of used oil. With all the help we were done in less than an hour. Jerry Wallin helped this year by doing the cooking. The BBQ menu was expanded to also include chicken burgers and hot dogs. We now know that Al Paulsen is different than the rest of us as he was the only person to request a hot dog. Thanks to everyone that came and now to look forward to doing it again in the fall. 5 STORY ABOUT A THAMES This is a story about a non vintage car, by a vintage car lover. My Van is a 1952 Thames 83W ½ ton panel that started life as a milk delivery van from Texada Island Dairy. I was looking for a Divco Van when I found this van along with 2 others in Kamloops. As it happened a friend of mine had them as he was working on one himself. This started an 8 year long project that ended up as one restored and sold and one fully modified W ½ ton. I started by building a new chassis with a narrowed Mustang front end and a narrowed 8 Ford rear end. In between the frame is a 2.3 liter Ford with a C4 transmission. Next was to build a stronger body by taking all the wood out and replacing it with steel tubing. I widened the doors 5 to make it easer to get in and out, and added the opera windows to add better vision. Next was a new steel roof from a Ford van and a steel floor from a Chev pickup box, a new fire wall and transmission hump to finish the basics. {Rudy at Kamloops Upholstery working on the interior The weeks to follow would see many hours of taking out the dings on the body and making a new 3 piece hood, nerf bars, brackets, power windows and power door locks. Sanding was the next big job as it took many coats of primer and many more coats of primer to get ever thing straight enough to start the actual priming and paint. After the paint was on, the big job of putting in brake lines, fuel lines and miles of wiring to make every thing work. New upholstery was the last major hurdle and that was left to Kamloops Upholstery to do the job. They added the upholstery to give it a Silver Lining. Don Potts Member of the Kamloops VCCC Editor s Notes: - {Thanks to Peter Udesen owner of Kamloops Upholstery for helping with the roof, headliner and upholstery for the club s Ambulance} YOU CAN NEVER TELL A woman received a call that her daughter was sick. She stopped by the pharmacy to get medication. Got back to her car and found that she had locked her keys inside. The woman found an old rusty coat hanger left on the ground. She looked at it and said "I don't know how to use this." She bowed her head and asked God to send her HELP. Within 5 minutes a beat up old motorcycle pulled up with a bearded man wearing an old biker skull rag. The man got off of his cycle and asked if he could help. She said: "Yes, my daughter is sick. I've locked my keys in my car. I must get home. Please, can you use this hanger to unlock my car?" He said "Sure." He walked over to the car, and in less than a minute the car was open. She hugged the man and through tears said "Thank You So Much! You are a very nice man." The man replied "Lady, I am NOT a nice man. I just got out of PRISON yesterday. I was in prison for car theft." The woman hugged the man again sobbing, "Oh, thank you God! You even sent me a Professional!" Is GOD Good or What!? 5
