1 TULSA POLICE DEPARTMENT JUNE 2011 Gilcrease Division Newsletter, Vol 2 Silver Alert Successful Tulsa Police Department Gilcrease Division 3436 N Delaware Ave Tulsa, Ok (918) Division Commander Major Tracie Lewis (918) Day Shift Commander Capt Steve Odom (918) Third Shift Commander Capt Karen Tipler (918) Fourth Shift Commander Capt Dave Roberts (918) Midnight Shift Commander Capt Shawn King (918) Questions or Comments: TPD Gilcrease News TPDGilcreaseNews@cityoftulsa org Visit us on the web: Tulsa Police Department www tulsapolice org TPD on Facebook TPD on Twitter At approximately 2:15 p m, Officer T O Keefe was working the Gilcrease Division desk when a citizen notified him they were missing an elderly family m e m b e r Vernon Eschelman wandered away from the family home at 1819 N Quincy Avenue The family reported Eschelman suffered from Alzheimer s Disease and has been known to walk away from home A description of Eschelman was immediately broadcast city wide and officers began to search the area looking for him Shortly after a Silver Alert was activated and the Amber Alert Call Center was opened and staffed with detectives as well as Disaster R e s p o n s e Te a m ( D a RT ) members Officers continued to search the area with the assistance of the police helicopter and using information received from the call center At approximately 4:30 p m, Sergeant D Sanders was at the command post at 1500 N Peoria when he saw Eschelman walking through the parking lot of the Gateway Market Eschelman s identity was verified and the Silver Alert was canceled 1

2 Tips to Avoid Auto Theft Our Auto Theft detectives want to remind you of ways you can avoid becoming the victim of auto theft and offer the following advice: Never leave keys inside your vehicle or motorcycle ALWAYS roll up your windows and lock your doors Do not hide a second key in your vehicle or in a magnetic box under the vehicle If you ve thought of a place to hide it, they ve thought of how to find it Do not leave your vehicle running due to the heat or cold Thieves watch for this at stores and ATM s Leaving a vehicle running and unattended is against the law and can earn you a ticket! Secure any valuables inside your vehicle OUT OF SIGHT! If you are on a motorcycle, take your helmet with you NEVER LEAVE THE TITLE IN THE GLOVE BOX!!! Keep it at home or in a safe deposit box Thieves forge owners names and sell stolen cars Some cases have resulted with an Oklahoma tag office actually retitling a stolen vehicle to the thief! When buying a vehicle from an individual, make certain the title matches the name of the person attempting to sell you the vehicle ASK to see a driver license If they refuse, then DO NOT BUY the vehicle If it appears too good to be true then it usually is! Never let someone test drive your vehicle without you going along DO NOT give them the keys until you are seated in the car! DO NOT leave your vehicle unattended on private property without the property owner s permission Vehicles are subject to being towed and might incur storage fees DO NOT leave your vehicle on the side of the road if you encounter mechanical trouble HAVE YOUR VEHICLE TOWED! It takes thieves approximately 20 seconds to steal abandoned vehicles! If you cannot afford to be without your vehicle DO NOT LEND IT TO ANYONE!! 3 A trend is developing with burglary from vehicles within the Inner-Dispersal Loop. This mostly affects the parking lots on the south side of Archer Street. These lots are mainly used by people who work in and around the BOK building. Suspects are breaking pickups and stealing change and any other items that are visible. Among the reported robberies this week, was the robbery of an elderly woman that occurred in the area of 1300 E 53rd Street North. While she was in her car, she was approached by a juvenile, which scared her so she waited. When she thought the coast was clear, she got out of her car and was robbed. If someone scares you while you are still in your vehicle, if possible, you should drive to a well-lit, busy public place (like a convenience store) and dial 911. All right, for all you CLUE lovers, here we go again with another whodunit! This time we think the pictures are pretty good so we re hoping that there is someone out there that recognizes this subject. This male subject was caught on surveillance video and is believed to have stolen items from 1877 N 105 East Avenue.
