5 CALL TO ORDER - WELCOME MEMBERS AND GUESTS: The March meeting was called to order at 7:04 pm by President Jared. There were 13 members in attendance. MEETING MINUTES: Jay Robinson read the minutes from the previous meeting, and they were approved as read. TREASURER S REPORT: There was no Treasurers report in Mary's absence. NEW BUSINESS: Club Clash - we ARE registered for 2017 at Bandimere, first race will be May 12th. Are YOU ready?? Annual bowling tournament will be April 2nd, flyer on page 9 of this newsletter. Other club activities were discussed: Drive In movie night, Pavilion Park Picnic, Scavenger Hunt (MY favorite!) ; Progressive Dinner, and Cruises. Do you have a favorite that you would like the Club to do? Bring it up!!! We are always looking for fun things to do as a Club, and your voice counts!! How about a tech day before the season is fully upon us, so that members know their cars are fully ready to go?? Meeting adjourned at 7:39 pm OLD BUSINESS: It is WAY past renewal time for dues. If you WERE or know of a past member that wants to rejoin - let a member or officer know - and someone will get you an application!! We miss you! The annual BYOC Car show was discussed, and a date of June 17. The City of Loveland Police Department has ALL the information needed, so hopefully we will hear a firm YES for the show! NEXT BUSINESS MEETING: The next Business Meeting will be held April 6th, at Johnson's Corner - dinner at 6pm, meeting at 7pm. (NOTE: We need more members not only showing up for the meetings, but ordering food as well. We get the room for free, as long as we continue to order meals by the majority of members in attendance). Our annual Chili Cook Off was February 25th, at Dave and Dennise Jacksons residence. It was a smashing success, with tons of great chili, and even more great friends. A Poker Run was March 18th, and it was a lot of fun. 5 cars participated, and the course was really cool. Jack George won the best hand with 2 deuces (tri-power hand???) and collected $83. He then generously donated $20 back to the club for use on another item.. Page #5

6 I can t tell you how many times I have heard dear god why did you drag that home? It used to aggravate me when people would ask this question, however now I have become so used to it that I just smile and go on with life. I guess the answer for me is that I always see value in what is there and not what is gone. I see value in what could be, not what is. My theory is they are only original once. They are not making this stuff anymore, and there is an ass for every seat! If they go to the crusher that potential project or parts is gone forever! I find great satisfaction in rescuing a derelict car or part that has been forgotten to the ravages of time. Over the years I have bought countless cars, some of which I have kept, and many I have sold to others with capable hands. This is probably my favorite part of the collector car hobby, the hunt! Seeing new life being breathed into something once neglected. Below I will tell you a story of one such car that I rescued from its demise. For many years there was a house in the middle of Loveland. The house sat in a residential neighborhood, and there were GTO s in the driveway, GTO s in the garage, and GTO s in the back yard. For the record I am not speaking about my own house ha ha! Also, before you folks go out looking for this place all the cars are gone, and the man that owned the place has moved as well. Anyway, back to my story In the driveway of this house sat two 67 GTO s side by side. A Tyrol blue hardtop and a burgundy hardtop. They were in rough shape, and over the years they continued to rot out in the sun. I knew the guy well that owned them, and frequently would ask him if he would sell either car. The answer was always the same, no I am going to restore those at some point. This fella didn t sell cars or parts very often, and let me add that he had enough parts to build countless cars!!! Many rare and desirable parts! I watched these two 67 Goats melt into the driveway for many years. One day I drove by his house and the driveway was empty! I was shocked! I had to find out the story. I went up to the door and spoke with the man who lived there. During the course of our conversation he told me that he had sold the two 67 s to a body man down by Longmont. The guy had made him an offer he couldn t refuse. I happened to know this Longmont area body man, so the next order of business was to call him and find out his plans for the pair of GTO s. Upon calling the individual who had bought the cars. He informed me that he was going to part out the burgundy car, to fix the blue car. Why??? They were both complete cars minus motors. What parts did he need? The blue car is an HO car, so that s the one I am going to fix, he stated. Ok, so I get that an HO car is more valuable than a non HO car, but I still hated to see the burgundy car being parted out. My next question was well what are you going to do with the burgundy car when you are done with it? He answered CRUSH IT!!! Whoa not if I can help it!! We agreed that he would call me in a couple weeks, and I could come down and look at the remnants. If I was interested he would sell to me instead of crushing it. After about two weeks he called, and I went down to look at the car. When I arrived I couldn t believe my eyes!!! What had been a complete car a few weeks earlier was just a hull! He had cut one quarter panel off the car, the frame was gone, however what was there was not rusty, and there were many parts piled inside the body. We agreed on a price, which was about scrap price, he gave me the title and I drug her home. I still had no idea what I was going to do with it, but I knew it couldn t be crushed! Once I got the GTO home (or what was left of it) I put the title in my name, and sent off for the PHS doc s so I had all of the paperwork. The PHS revealed a base 67 GTO with not a whole lot of options, 335 horse 400, automatic on the column, black bench seat interior, with burgundy exterior. Basic, but still very pretty in its day. The car sat for quite some time while I sorted out the parts that were crammed inside. One score, the original doors were piled inside, and they were almost perfect. Along with many other items original to the car. Eventually I obtained a frame from a 66 GTO that Bob Pope and I had parted out. Now before you folks point fingers, the 66 that we parted out was way way way too far gone to save (I will tell that story another time). I took this 66 frame, and rolled it under the burgundy 67 body, and bolted it down. I then bolted the original doors and trunk lid back on. Boom! It s starting to look like a car again!! I dug through my parts stash and came up with a few more missing items. Before long the car was beginning to look more like a viable project car than a parts car. I figured that I had gone far enough with saving this one. I advertised the car on Craigslist, and someone from Fort Collins came and bought it. To my knowledge he threw a few more parts at it and then he decided to sell it. A man from Utah came down and bought it and is or was restoring it. So I say at least with this one it came full circle. For a car to be saved from the crusher, and then be put back together enough for someone to warrant shipping it all the way to Utah!!! I cannot remember the last time we did this as a club. It was perfectly arranged by your faithful President, and his lovely, errr ummm, Girlfriend. They did a great job of setting up all the stops, and laying out three different courses, so not all participants were going in the same direction all the same time. It was about roughly a 40 mile course, covering 3 cities. There were 5 cars that participated, and one member that joined in later. This was a great time, and could have been better, of course, if there were more Club members joining in! This is the exact reason for this club - getting your cars out of the garage, actually DRIVING them, and having tons of fun with other Club members. The next Club activity is the bowling tournament, flyer on page 8. This another great opportunity to get out and have lots of fun with your fellow Club members, even if it doesn t really revolve around the cars. If the weather is good, you can still cruise your ride to the bowling alley, and then to an early dinner afterwards, which we always try to do. This is your club, and the Board members are trying their best to come up with fun activities for all to be a part of, but we need your help! This comes in ways of participation at Club events, as well as helping come up with fun adventures at the business meetings. So, in other words - Come to the meetings, come to the activities, and join in the fun that your club has to offer!! Page #7

10 The Northern Colorado GTO Association was founded in 1984 with several objectives in mind. The primary objective is to HAVE FUN and to promote interest in the Pontiac GTO. With that in mind, we try to schedule at least one club event every month. These events may be car shows, picnics, club member attendance at car shows, sanctioned drag races, participation in charity events, Drive-In movie nights (Yes we still have a drive-in theater in Northern Colorado!) or any other event that involves people getting together to enjoy the fun of owning a true muscle car. As an affiliated chapter of the GTOAA, your club is supplied with a $3,000,000 liability insurance policy. This covers both Officers and Members while conducting approved Chapter events. When you become a member of the GTOAA, you get a monthly publication of the Golden Quill award winning magazine, THE LEGEND. This is a 32 page monthly magazine that contains technical articles, stories about members GTO's, a large classified section and much more information. The GTOAA hosts an annual National Convention where GTO enthusiasts can come together and see the vast diversity within this great organization. From the Technical Seminars to the Concours Judging to the Activities and Popular Vote Car Show, there is no other single GTO event like a GTOAA National Convention. No other Pontiac organization or publication does more to bring together the issues, ideas, needs and wants of GTO enthusiasts worldwide.
