See com P resident 's Message It s almost October now and the weather may finally be cooling off a bit and allowing some of our more active members to enjoy their non-air-conditioned antique vehicles a little bit more. There are several things coming up that members may wish to put on their calendars. October 15th is the annual Golden City Cruisers judged car show at The Mill amphitheater in downtown Villa Rica. It s always a great show with plenty going on, so let s support our friends right up the road. Details on our website and, of course, theirs too. Go to October 22nd is our Three Club Picnic hosted by the CVAC from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm Central Time in Anniston, AL. at Pavillions 4 and 5 at Oxford Lake. More details to follow by and on the website. Bring a dessert dish to pass. Interested members of our club will likely caravan over there. October 29th is the first annual Stoney Point Swap Meet and Car Show, Roopville, GA 10 am -3 pm. Check our website for details. October 31st is the North Point Church Trunk-r-treat. The event will be held on Oct. 31st (Halloween) from 6:30 till 8:00 PM. Antique vehicles requested for display only. These vehicles will not have goodies in the trunk for small children to swipe dirty and sticky hands all over. The church would like to get cars for display and it is located at Cedar St and the 166 by-pass on the east side of Carrollton. November 6th is the Lineville car show with swap meet, Lineville, Alabama. Take a look at the sidebar in this issue of The Greasy Rag, as well as the Coming Events section of our website, to see what else may be coming up in these next weeks and months. Enjoy the Ride! 2 Buick Club of America 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION By Glenn Novak The Buick Club of America celebrated its 50th anniversary this year with a massive gathering of Buicks in Allentown, PA from July 27-30, Over 600 Buicks from the Brass Era into the 1990 s converged on the grounds of the Nicola Bulgari estate for a special celebration of the history of an international club with origins in southern California in Noted billionaire Italian jeweler Nicola Bulgari owns a large collection of important and fully restored cars, some European but the majority American, with an emphasis on Buicks. He has two storage facilities in Italy and the largest one in Allentown, on the grounds of a former drive-in movie theatre. His collection is now over 200 cars, about 130 of them housed here in Pennsylvania, where his restoration experts work their magic in producing award-winning specimens. Bulgari himself was present during the BCA event in July, and personally presented beautiful medallions to each of the Buick owners who displayed their cars on the vast lawns. The event differed from most BCA National Meets in that there was no formal judging: just a vast display of cars and the typical swap meet and car corral areas. During the week leading up to the main event on Saturday, tour buses took groups of Buick folk to Valley Forge and areas around Philadelphia to help keep all family members active and entertained. All in all, the event seemed to be successful although rain did arrive later on Saturday afternoon and those with nearby trailers quickly made their exits toward their mobile garages. BCA members said farewell and began to make plans for the more traditional national meet in 2017 to be held in southern Wisconsin. 2

5 40 Years At Hershey 2016 was my 40th Anniversary attending the AACA Fall Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The weather smiled on us for the occasion. We had sunshine all week until Saturday when a light rain rolled in. The Swap Meet portion was well attended as usual. That means about 250,000 people over 3 days. We had quite a foreign contingent with visitors from nearly every continent on the planet. This year we had three cars for sale. A 1929 Pierce-Arrow 5 Passenger sedan, a 1930 Pierce-Arrow Victoria and a 1967 Mustang convertible. The Mustang sold first and is headed to Holland. The Victoria sold to a father and son from Mexico City. We have some strong interest in the 5 Passenger so it may sell shortly. Flea market sales were good as well. For our own collection we were able to purchase a scarce Pierce-Arrow grease can of the type produced during the teens and 20s. It is unusual to find these with the grease still inside, which this one has. The light rain on Saturday dampened the car show segment. Typically there will be 1200 to 1400 cars on the Show Field. If it rains on Saturday that will cut the number down to 600 to 800. The West Ga Region was presented by Rick and Liz Horne, Walt and Jenny Smith and Greg Marshall. If the other members were there I did not run into them. Hershey is always a great event. You know I must think so, after 40 years I still myself heading back in early October. Approval of minutes of August 4 meeting E. Treasurer's Report - stark silence F. Old Business a. Charities - decided to keep them the same or at least in the same categories - children, animals, veterans b. Club name tags (ditto stark silence) c. No Lowell Opry Cruise d. Frank described Southeastern Railway Museum tour/car show in Duluth 9/24 and offered to arrange/drive a group. Thank you, Frank! G. New Business a. Club officers - All we know for sure is that Gary is treasurer for life, Liz is secretary for life, Glenn is president for life, and I quit. b. We rerminded ourselves of all the upcoming events we already knew about - Balloons, LaGrange, Golden City, Stoney Point, Lineville, and Tri-Club. c. Cameron said he would talk about a child endangerment program he participates in (taking kids for rides in small planes) at the next meeting. d. I talked about the Atlanta British Car Fayre in Norcross on 9/10 and the Cruisin' to the Oldies Car Show in Senoia 9/24. H. Other New Business a. I brought up the Christmas party and suggested it had been nice to do at a member's home and, while I was willing, I was now less able to provide all the food. Johnny graciously said maybe. I mention this only to put a lot of unfair pressure on him. b. We reminded ourselves of the next meeting on October 6. I think I forgot to adjourn formally, so I guess the meeting is still ongoing. Program - The History of the poor little AMC Pacer. Tip of the day: Mix a gallon of vinegar with 2 cups epsom salts and a cup of blue dishwashing soap, mix it in a sprayer, and kill everything you spray for tons less than the commercial stuff
