2 From the Commodore Gary Scofield It is hard to believe that August is already here and will be the last of the hot weather boating season, although September and even the first part of October offer some good weather with great boating opportunities. Water levels are back to normal and we have hopefully seen the last of heavy debris in the river and boat basin. The club has had three great club events in the past couple of months, Margaritaville, Father s Day Brunch and the Beach Party. Thank you for all the club members who helped to put on these great events and to all those members and guests that attended. More fun events are planned so look at your Save the Date postcards and read your Yacht Talk each month. Bruce Carlisle has taken the time and put forth a lot of effort to reformat the Club Standing Rules. The rules were not changed (last revised November, 2016), but you will notice a more reader friendly presentation and an added index. The Board approved the new format at our July Board Meeting. The new reformatted rules should have already been ed to you and of course will also be posted on the club website. Many club members received a billing for the $25 fine for failure to comply with Rule V.3. Vessel Registration. Please read this rule, which was previously included with your 2017 Dues Notice. A copy of your current vessel registration is due July 1 st of each boating year and considered late if not received by the Club by July 15 th. The fine continues to build for each month or part of month that the copy of your registration is not received by the Club and could result in your access devises being turned off. I talked about this new rule in every Yacht Talk since April and a Notice was posted on the Dock Gates and at the clubhouse. All club members should know that almost all our Club communication to our membership is by . Generally, only billings are sent by regular mail. You should notify the club with any change in address, residence mailing address or phone numbers. If you are not receiving s from the club you should check your address listed on the club roster and/or junk mailbox. Read your monthly Yacht Talk and attend club general membership meetings to keep up with what is going on in your club. I will be holding a Class C Training session for new members wanting to use our fuel dock before our August 1 st general membership meeting at 6:30 sharp. Please call or me if you plan to attend the training. If you need training sooner, call me at and I will schedule the training with you on an individual basis. The training takes about 15 minutes and is required for anyone fueling a vessel at our fuel dock and anyone named on a Co-Energy fuel account. BOAT SAFE!!! From the Vice Commodore - Chris Jensen A New Fire Pit for the Deck - We are continuing a fundraising activity for a large gas fire pit to be constructed on the deck of the yacht club sometime in late summer with the goal of it being fully completed by fall. It will be constructed of the same type of brick matching the BBQ. RYC members can purchase your own personalized brick for $100 each. Contact Chris Jensen for additional information or simply fill out the form attached, or locate one under the mailboxes inside August
3 the clubhouse, enclose a check and drop it in my Clubhouse mailbox. Donations will be taken through August of From the Rear Commodore Bruce Carlisle 2017 Event Calendar The Save the Date calendar is attached. In coordination with Clover Island Yacht Club, I included several of their events that are open to our members. Clubhouse rental dates are also included so you are aware of days when the clubhouse will not be available for your personal use. The calendar in this format will be published each month in the Yacht Talk and posted on the clubhouse, kitchen bulletin board. Beach Party The 5 th annual Beach Party was a hit with over 150 members and guests cooling it in the clubhouse or basking in the sun on the deck. Beverages were consumed, the buffet rapidly diminished, and we danced into the evening hours. Many thanks to our members that donated raffle prizes to the joy of so many attendees. See the attached page for photos of the event. It was very exciting to see the number of members that donated gifts or volenteered to set up and clean up for this event. Hoping I remembered all, thank you Obie and Kirby Amacker, Dan & Cindy Breen, Dave & Shannon Brown, Lee & Betty Celski, Andy Cockrell, Marc & Joan Coomer, Bob & Rose Gray, Mark & Angie Hall, Jan & Chris Jensen, Jeff & Angelia Keck, Roy & Becky Keck, Doug Larsen, Gary & Kim Minkler, Wayne Pentilla, Sheryl Hellsund, Nik & Odeta Qafoku, Darin & Susan Rodabaugh, Dan & Sandy Sanders, Gary & Bonnie Scofield, Bob & Glenda Skiba, Ken & Chris Webb, and Charles & Janet Wheaton. You are awsome! Dock Crawl This event, scheduled for August 12, is cancelled this year as we could not find a host. Maybe next year. But wait, we still have an August event on the 26 th. Endless Summer The Columbia Basin is heating up and we will celebrate our endless summer on August 26 th. There will be beverages, BBQ and a band for the summer revelers. Gather in the clubhouse and venture out to watch the sunset. The event starts with a 5 pm social hour, 6 pm dinner with burgers, dogs and summer sides. Fallout will strike up their band at 7:00 and we will dance till the sun dips below the horizon. The donation is $15 for members and $20 for guests. Call or text Deb to RSVP at Clubhouse Sound System The sound system is updated with a new cabinet and mixer that allows pairing with mobile phones so you can play Pandora stations or stored music. There are a set of detailed instructions for setting up the system to play music from the tuner or stored on a cassette (any of those still out there?) or CD. Included in the instructions is information on balancing the sound from the Clubhouse speakers including the Deck. Look for the notebook near the cabinet and try it out next time you are enjoying the Clubhouse or Deck area. August
4 From the Dock Captain - Roy Keck Friday Clubhouse Gathering We continue the standing tradition of meeting on Friday evenings for food and libations. Open to all club members and their guests - Very informal. Bring your own everything, something to share if you like, and let s gather on the deck when the sun shines or the Clubhouse when the wind blows. We restocked the kitchen with plates, bowls, glasses and mugs. We only ask you rinse and load the dishwasher before you leave. Moorage - is currently completely full except for one (1) 32 slip (E11E). Dock Boxes I ordered six (6) new Dock Boxes for re-sale to members on a first come basis. Three (3) are still available for $500 each, requires some assembly and must be lag bolted onto the slip whalers. Club Requirements - As of July 1 st, members are required to have; Washington Boating Cards for all Vessel Drivers and current 2018 tabs attached to their vessel. You must provide the club with a copy of the vessel registration and insurance documentation with $300k minimum coverage and naming the Club as an additional insured. Club fines will be assessed if you do not comply. Club Expectations - Members are expected to maintain their vessel and slip area safe and clean and use good boating / dock etiquette. Please check your moorage lines and fasteners, power cords and connections, boat batteries and bilge pumps, dock boxes and lid latches. Clear debris and spray for spiders from around boats and slip fingers. Return Club carts to the clubhouse staging areas ASAP (30 minutes max); don t leave them on the docks. Place your trash in the parking lot dumpster, not in the clubhouse or deck trash cans. Work Party - A big thanks to the dozen members that participated in the July 22 nd work party. We removed the trees and bushes along the eastside walkway providing clearance for the fire hydrant and electrical power panel. Check out the improved view from the deck! We also caught up with long overdue trimming of bushes around the clubhouse. Kind of late in the season, but they should fill out nicely in a month. For your Boating Safety - The Club recommends that your vessels be annually safety inspected by the US Coast Guard Auxiliary or Benton/Franklin Sherriff Department and display current 2018 inspection decal. August
5 From the Building Coordinator Brent Shindehite Please put all garbage or other items you re disposing of inside the parking lot dumpsters. Waste Management's driver's will not get out of the truck and put items and trash left along the side into the dumpster. Thus, it remains there, often gets under the dumpster, and remains indefinitely. This is not only unsightly, but may create a health hazard. Examples of things left by the side of the dumpsters are large boxes, garbage bags, pallets, tree branches, etc. Boxes need to be flattened or folded to fit in the dumpsters. Branches need to be broken up. If you can t get it into the dumpster, please dispose of it someplace else. From the Rental Coordinator Dan Sanders Watch Those Carts Please remember to go easy around the building when taking the carts to and from the docks. There are several breaks in the exterior stucco where it has been banged into. Just a little extra care and time will assure our building lasts well into the future without significant repairs on the exterior. November is available for a rental. During the week rentals are easy to accommodate. For more details regarding rental of the Clubhouse including blocked out dates, log on to the RYC website; Downloads (Members), then go to Standing Rules of the Richland Yacht Club. If you re interested in renting the clubhouse, call Dan Sanders ( ). From the Treasurer Doug Larsen Keep in Touch Members should review their contact information to ensure we have it correct in the club s records. It's our primary way of contacting you for parties, social events and yes billing. Keep us up to date with your current . Please check out the club roster posted at If your phone number is wrong, we cannot contact you if we have a dock emergency or notice a problem with your boat. Also we send out the yacht talk via s so if you want the entire latest scoop from the Club, keep the address current. From the Corresponding Secretary Suzanne Curn Check out the bulletin board in the Clubhouse pantry for Boating sales and services. Here s an example of many offerings: Boat for sale Trojan 10 Meter Sedan (38' overall). Twin 454 Chevy Crusaders with ~1200 hours on each engine (both Engines tuned up last year).; Fly Bridge; New cockpit upholstery and sleeps up to 8 people; custom anchor; 6.5 Onan generator.
