5 GCBMWC March 2016 Minutes President Tom Raybuck called the meeting to order at 7:38 PM at the home of Tom & Joni Raybuck. All current Officers were present. Guests Dan & Linda Gingerich were introduced. Dan & Linda are friends of Gary & Sue Franklin. The Minutes of the February Meeting were approved as listed in the Newsletter, with one correction for the dates of March Moto Madness. The Treasurer s report listed an opening balance of $ , with an income of $26.00 from split the pot, and an expense of $35.00 for dues to the RA. Ending balance of $ was approved. Old Business The Fall Gathering was discussed, with no additional information reported. More information will be addressed at the April Meeting. The February Breakfast Ride had 16 members present for breakfast, with 13 members participating in the ride. The Pie Trail Event was again discussed with no definite agenda being proposed. March Moto Madness will be attended by eight Club Members. This Event is held at the end of March. The Ault Park Concourse was mentioned without any additional interest to participate. New Business The fire at the Rabbit Hash General Store was discussed at length. Ken Norris pointed out some of the various problems, such as lack of insurance by the Rabbit Hash Historical Society, and the store proprietor Terrie Marksburg. A motion was made and seconded to donate $ of Club funds to the Forcht Bank of Northern Kentucky. Forcht Bank will match all donations to the Rabbit Hash Historical Society. An additional $ will be presented to Terrie Marksburg, at a future Club Outing. The Sharonville Swap Meet was attended by Bill Wright and Tom Raybuck. They met Don Blitz, who has an extensive collection of British bikes. Mr. Blitz has offered to open his collection for a Club Event. George Nyktas reported that he has also paid dues for the RA, which means the Club is now up to date for two years membership. AMA Membership was discussed without definite knowledge if the Club has actually paid dues. A motion was made and seconded to adjourn. The Meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM. Split the pot was won by Jim Smith for $ Ken Francois Secretary GCBMWC

We have a new Club Treasurer and she needs the money. If you want to join the Club you will have to meet the high standards for membership. This includes : 1. Attending at least 2 club events 2. Writing a check to GCBMWC for $18 ($15 single) 3. The check has to clear. These high standards were put in place to prove that we don t accept just anybody into membership, as some unruly clubs do. 7 7 Grand opening Local Entrepreneur Opens Gear Shop with Scooter Rentals in OTR. CINCINNATI Tim Burke, founder of he Cincinnati Café Racer Club and the Garage Brewed Moto Show is opening Piston Society, the first-of-its-kind urban motorcycle equipment shop in Cincinnati, and is hosting a grand opening at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd at 1428 Race Street. Attendees will get free drinks and food while browsing the store s riding apparel, artwork and rental bikes. The Piston Society retail shop offers urban and adventure moto-related gear, art and local goods in an urban boutique setting. Tim Burke has always seen a market in Cincinnati for motorcycle enthusiasts, and recognized the lack of unique riding apparel being sold locally. Most of the riding gear sold in the area is very conservative and stale, Burke explains. I wanted to offer quality motorcycle goods that are fresh, fashionable, European-inspired and not found in other local retail shops. In addition to providing clothing and riding gear, Piston Society offers motorcycle and scooter rentals. Scooters and bikes will be on display at the grand opening event. A Biltwell motorcycle helmet, valued at $160, will be given away each day of the grand opening. Piston Society offers quality urban and adventure motorcycle gear, hand selected to keep you looking good on and off of the bike. Piston Society is a place where motorcyclists and scooterists can rent a ride, select gear, and find moto art for their walls. Learn more at Thanks to Mark Beers for turning me on to this story. Edd
8 Starter bikes Starter bike...what a concept! These 4 bikes qualify because of light weight, small motors and smallish price tags. Joe DeLuca keeps a fat tire TW 200 in his garage for trips to the liquor store and to see his grandsons who live about 2 miles away. Yamaha TW # $4,500 KTM 390 Duke 345# $4,999 Honda s CB500F twin 418# $6,299 w/abs The CB 500F is attractive because it is an ABS twin, plus it is a Honda, and we know that means reliability. But it is priced $1,000 above the others. This Edditor s favorite would be the KTM because the orange rims look cool and I can t pull a wheelie on my RT. BMW G 310 R 348# $4,999 (est.) Available in late 2016
9 FISCHERS ON THE ROAD Towing my Honda 650 on a trailer, Barbara and I left home on a cold January 17th headed west to visit our son Curt s family in Sunnyvale, CA. and Barbara s sister and family in San Juan Capistrano, CA. I was concerned about the real possibility of road closures due to snow but we lucked out. Except for snow near Indianapolis we had clear sailing the whole way. One of the sites I wanted to see was the spiral staircase in the Loretto Chapel in Santa FE. I m thinking even Merrill couldn t construct something like that. In the morning we made our way to The Bandelier National Monument just north west of Santa Fe. The Bandelier Monument area was very amazing both for the natural rock formations and for the man made modifications to create housing in the cliffs. It s not the same scale as Mesa Verde National Park but just as impressive. Hiking the trails was made a little more difficult by the altitude of about The monument status was declared back in Theodore Roosevelt s era but the area was closed to the public during WW II and the lodge was used to house people working on the Manhattan Project. Edditor s Note: When John Fischer finally got shed of the Newsletter job he and Barbara celebrated by taking a two month vacation trip to California.
10 It was a short drive to Los Alamos, NM and we passed right through the Los Alamos National Lab, and, just as the security guard warned, I took no pictures. New Mexico State Route 4 was a beautiful ride on the way to Albuquerque. Another interesting ride was the Apache Trail (AZ SR 88 from the Roosevelt (TR) Dam to Apache Junction. I imagined my 650 Honda felt terrible being in tow on the trailer instead of on the dirt road. Before the night s stop in Glendale, AZ. we saw the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument which is about 50 miles southeast of Phoenix. We stayed two nights in Boulder City, NV with Ron Monnig s brother Gary Monnig.
Below in the background is Lake Elsinore, CA. Remember that from On Any Sunday? 11 A few days later on the Ortega Highway I followed this father and son on a S1000RR before getting stopped by a work crew. They were on the way to sky dive
12 After heading north to Sunnyvale, CA. I got to ride down Old La Honda Road through spectacular redwoods to California SR 1 along the Pacific. So far - so good. Story and photos by John & Barb Fischer
