RCCC Hello everybody, President s Message It is April already, and we have a lot of events coming up this month and next. The Grand Rod Run at Pigeon Forge is set for April 18-20.

The VW Bug-A-Palooza will be held at Camp Jordan in East Ridge April 19-20. There will be a Classic Car Show to benefit St. Jude s Hospital on April 26 at Northwest Georgia Bank in Fort Oglethorpe.

2 RCCC Hello everybody, President s Message It is April already, and we have a lot of events coming up this month and next. The Grand Rod Run at Pigeon Forge is set for April The NCRS Regional meeting is set for April 18 at the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Gene Talley is working with them to arrange for our club to participate in some way. The VW Bug-A-Palooza will be held at Camp Jordan in East Ridge April There will be a Classic Car Show to benefit St. Jude s Hospital on April 26 at Northwest Georgia Bank in Fort Oglethorpe. The National Corvette Museum C5-C6 Bash is scheduled for April in Bowling Green, Kentucky. On April 26 the Mainstreet Cruisers start their monthly cruise-in on the town square in Cleveland. On May 8-10 the NCM hosts their annual C4 Gathering in Bowling Green. The Red Bank Jubilee Parade is set for May 10. The Vettes in the Valley show at Maggie Valley, NC will be held May On May 31 we will again join with the Lions Club to host their annual barbecue and car show at the Hamilton County River Park. The Vettes by the Shore show is set for June in Biloxi, MS. Now that is a lot of opportunity for all of us to get out and enjoy our cars and our friends. Obviously we will have to pick and choose which we will want to get involved in, but there should be something for everyone to like. Get active in our club activities and make your membership as enjoyable as it can be. I have made reservations for a tour of the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg on June 28. We will have lunch at the famous Miss Mary Bobo s boarding house in Lynchburg. We will travel to Lynchburg together, and it is a beautiful drive. I will have a sign up sheet at the DQ every Tuesday and at the club meetings. We must have an exact number that will be attending, as Miss Mary is always sold out. They book up at least two months ahead, so I had to make the reservation now. We have reservations for thirty people. Please plan to make this trip. I know you will have a great time, and you don t have to drink Jack Daniel s to find the distillery tour fascinating. As is usually the case, our membership dropped when time to renew came. We had been approaching 140 members, and now we are right around 100. Please invite anyone you know who has a Corvette to join us. The more the merrier. Our board of directors will meet at the DQ on April 8 th, and our April meeting of the club will be on the 17 th at O Charley s in Hixson. See you there. Ernie. 3 Spring has Sprung! And except for those wimpy members that are afraid they might get their Vette wet in a surprise Spring shower, It s time to get em out and go places. Enjoy the Spring weather. See the flowers blooming and the Trees leaving out. Inhale some pollen and inflict a sneeze on your companion in the other seat (better them than get any snot on the dash board of our precious sports car! Pay $3.40 per gallon for some high test and then waste it just knockin around enjoyin a drive in the coolest car in the whole world! There ya have it it all makes perfect sense, at least to us. I can t wait! I ve already let mine get rained on! Filled er up too. No splash and go s here! There s so much to do, and so precious few week-ends to do em in. So this issue is devoted to events that we see ahead of us this Spring, Summer and Fall. Some of em we don t even know the dates of yet. This issue is dedicated to what we do know about which events that we all love to go to, along with perhaps a few new ones thrown in. Read em and put em on your calendar. Oh yeah Harless, you don t have to check, your calendar is empty. Editor! First up! 9:00 to 2:00 pm Northwest Georgia Bank, Hixson Office Across from Home Depot Registration: $20, between 9:00 and 11:00 am. Benefits St. Jude Children s Hospital Judging at 12:00 Noon, Trophies ar 2:00 pm. Top 5 each class. There s a class just for Corvettes so we won t be competing against the other cars. This is a new show and has several good sponsors. A great place to start the show season. Those that go to this one can also join others in going to. See below! We ll leave from the library at Northgate just as soon as possible after the above car show. Be at the library by no later than 2:30 pm and off we go. This is always fun can t wait to eat those burgers at that little shop downtown. It s always fun and the first one is the best one. Everyone comes out and they ll save us some spots to park the Vettes. After rebuilding half of Biloxi because of Hurricane Katrina, we re ready to go for another go at bringing home the trophies form the Biloxi Show. This is the first week-end in June. It s a long drive, but the cars are indoors at the coliseum and it s usually a great show. The casinos and their great buffets are close by as is the fabulous Gulf of Mexico. We keep going back for a reason great food, fun, and a great car show. Be there or be square. Host Hotel is walking distance the Quality Inn at $116 each night ( ).

4 This one is in Tupelo, MS. But don t let that turn you off. If you like the trip to Maggie Valley you d like this one too. The whole town turns out to celebrate! Marilynn and I have been to this befreo and really had a great time. It starts out on Thursday evening with Drive in Movies at the Car Museum (which, by the way is one of the more fabulous car collections I have ever seen). Registration is on Friday, there s a block party from 11:00 to 1:00 pm, a car corral, the Elvis Museum, and Elvis himself shows up to sing from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. After he sings the whole Dalton Gang shows up and a whole lot of shakin goes on!! On Saturday, the car show participants parade through town. On Saturday night there s a live band called are you ready The Corvettes among other bands and from 1:00 to sometime that night there s more rockin and rollin than you can shake a guitar at, not to mention a really good car show with plenty of Corvettes. The dates are May 1 through May 4, for a rockin good time. Contact Mike and Marilynn Nabors if you want to go. We ve been and it really is a great time. The Nashville Corvette Club often goes to this one. Kicks of on Wednesday the 23rd. At the Corvette Museum. There s wine tours, a Z06 Ride and Drive (see if you can keep up!). With a little luck you can get to drive the newest Corvette Models. Tour the Museum and tour the plant. Usually there s an autocross and sometimes drag racing... Here s a trip most of us have never made before! This is put on by the Circle City Corvettes, Inc., out of Dothan AL. and always has a crowd of Corvettes (150 or more) Corvettes leave from Dothan on the 15th and caravan to Panama City, where everyone stays at about there host hotels. There s a Corvette Banquet, an Auction, a 50 s and 60 s Sock Hop party, a special guest (who will it be? Corvette Seminars, a Special Corvette Display and other events, including a dinner cruise aboard a boat named the Lady Anderson. It s an action packed trip top the beach. Registration is $100 per Corvette so you might not want to carry two (if you got em), but this one could be a rockin good time. If we can get a good group to go, this one could be fabulous.

5 Page 5 The RCCC has been asked to bring our Corvettes for display at their Grand Opeing on April 20, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It s located at 3130 Jersey Pike, right off of Hwy 153 in the old Grayco Building. Free food. Did I mention there would be free food? There ll also be free food. Hope it s not just a hot dog! Two of our cars ran this last year and had a blast. Ernie and Susan Pierce finished in a tie for third place. John Lemons and Mike Nabors had the most correct answers to the questions. It s in the fall and the drive last year was just beautiful - very scenic. They haven t announced the date, yet, but stay tuned. This is our car show for the year unless of course, we decide to do anther one! Well duh! The Lions do put on a nice barbeque and there s lots to do besides just car look. This year we may share the show honors with the Thunder Valley Mustang Club, so the charity of providing eyeglasses for the needy could benefit even more. Be sure to participate in the car show it s ours! Again, there s more to this event than just our car show vendors, arts and crafts, good food, ice cream and lots of cars. So don t miss. Memorial Day week-end, Saturday and Sunday, May The place to stay Smokey Falls Lodge, call to make reservations. Enter the Corvette Car show online at Vettes in the Valley (google it!). You can download the entry form there. This is a great show, and a great place to relax. Really, one of the most relaxing car show you ll ever attend. There s plenty of good food and fun, and the hotels are generally quiet and simple. There s lot s to do in the area, and the people are downright friendly! There s a nearby town to shop in and of course, the Great Smokey mountains right next door. The cruise on the way up can go right through Deals Gap, on the tail of the Dragon! Or through the Nantahala Gorge. Take your pick.

The DuPonts built the Inn in Ky in the heart of some beautiful country with a great buffet restaurant to boot (a pre-requisite for us to show up. We ll try to schedule this around a moon-bow at Cumberland Falls!

MARCH BIRTHDAYS WERE RECOGNIZED (2 PRESENT) OLD BUSINESS: THERE WAS NO SECRETARY S REPORT FOR THE MONTH OF FEB. THE TREASURER S REPORT WAS READ MY LARRY JOHNSTON, TREASURER. JERRY RAY REPORTED THAT CURRENTLY THERE ARE 44 PAID MEMBERS AND THE CLUB DUES NEED TO BE PAID BY THE END OF THE MONTH. ALSO, ANNOUNCED THAT THE MILES STRAIGHT CAR SHOW WILL BE THE 5 TH SAT. OF THE MONTH. LIONS CLUB CAR SHOW WILL BE MAY 31 ST. IT IS STILL IN THE PLANNING STAGES AT THIS TIME AND MORE DE- TAILS WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT THE NEXT CLUB MEETING. THE EVENT WILL BE HELP AT RIVERPARK AS IT WAS LAST YEAR AND THE POSSIBILITY OF THE MUSTANG CLUB ALSO PARTICIAPTING. GENE TALLEY PROVIDED INFORMATION ABOUT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR THIS YEAR. HE HAS SET A DATE WITH THE WAREHOUSE FOR DEC. 13 TH, 6:00 11:00 FOR A COST OF THE BUILDING OF $240 THE OWNERS WILL PROVIDED MUSIC AND OTHER ENTERTAINMENT. ALSO, COULD PROVIDE THE FOOD IF NEEDED. IT WAS SUG- GESTED THAT WE MIGHT CONTACT THE CATER WE USED FOR THE LAST PARTY AND THIS WILL BE DISCUSSED AT THE NEXT CLUB MEETING WITH COST FOR THEM TO CATER. IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT VETTES IN THE VALLY WILL BE IN MAY AT MAGGIE VALLEY. ALSO, VETTES BY THE SHORE IN BILOXI, MS IS STILL BEING CONSIDERED AND BUDDY WILL PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION AS IT BE- COMES AVAILABLE. NEW BUSINESS: MOUNTAIN VIEW CHEVROLET WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING WITH OUR CLUB. ERNIE HAS CONTACTED THE NASHVILLE CLUB TO RESEARCH WHAT THE DEALERSHIPS IN THAT AREA DO WITH THE CLUBS THERE. HE WILL MEET WITH MOUNTAIN VIEW AND REPORT BACK TO THE CLUB. MDA REPRESENTATIVES HAVE APPROACHED THE CLUB ABOUT RCCC PARTICIPATING IN THEIR FUND RAISER THIS YEAR. MIKE NABORS STATED THAT WE NEED TO SET SOME GUIDELINES AND THE CLUBS EXPECTATIONS TO OR- GANIZATIONS THAT REQUEST OUR ASSISTANCE IN ORDER TO MAKE THESE AS SUCCESSFUL AS POSSSIBLE. HE WILL DRAW UP SOME TERMS AND PRESENT THEM TO THE CLUB AT THE NEXT MEETING. THE FLOWER FUND WAS DISCUSSED AND IT WAS VOTED THAT THE PRICE OF FLOWERS WOULD BE AT CUR- RENT MARKET VALUE, USUALLY A DISH GARDEN OR HOUSE PLANT IF AVAILABE AND WOULD BE SEND TO MEM- BERS THAT ARE ADMITTED FOR HOSPITAL STAY AND FOR A DEATH FLOWERS WOULD BE SENT TO MEMBER S, MEMBER S SPOUSES, PARENTS, AND CHILDREN. A TRIP TO JACK DANEL S DISTILLERY WAS DISCUSSED AND THE CLUB DID SHOW AN INTEREST IN THE TRIP. ERNIE WILL CALL AND CHECK TIMES AND REPORT BACK TO THE CLUB. 50/50 TOTAL WAS $82.00 AND $41.00 WAS WON BY NORMA HARLESS.
