Main St., Fairborn, Ohio. Join us for breakfast at 8:30 a.m., and meeting at 9:30 a.m. A Message from your Chapter Director: Well, it s June, I think. It seems like March or April with all the rain we have been having. Some of you may have gone with us on the Kentucky Ride. We had a blast, but the most amazing thing happened. Lloyd was leading the ride and things were going great. good roads, nice weather, fantastic group and then it happened.one of the most dreaded things that can happen while leading a ride DETOUR this is one of those times you start thinking things like can we still continue, where will we come out.but as you know, Lloyd takes it all in stride and guess what? This was the best detour I have ever been on, it was a great road as a matter of fact, we even rode it back to the hotel and campsite that night on our return from the ride. We just finished our ride down to Lee s Steakhouse in Wellston.and it was one of those days that started out looking like it was going to rain cats and dogs. But the weather cleared up, and we had sun most of the afternoon..it was a great day, Donna and I were leading and we made it an official ride 3 times, yep three U-turns. Leon led us back home from that ride, but you need to ask him how well his GPS worked, we had a lot of laughs.yep, have to be careful of those roads that show as being roads that turn out NOT to be roads, but a driveway to someone s house!!!!!! Donna and I hosted the OCP training at her house on Saturday, June 5. It was an all day class with lots to digest. We had 11 folks in attendance, and our District Trainer, Sheryl Wyscarver, came down and led the training. We had a great time. Sheryl came down the night before, we had a chance to visit and get everything ready for the class the following morning. And good thing she did, we were on speaker phone with her hubby, Matt, trying to hook up the laptop to the TV screen, but all ended well and it was a great day! 2 We just returned from the Buckeye rally, and a lot of folks from Chapter F were there. We did several good rides while we are there, and went to the Bike show in downtown Wooster. It was announced that Robert and Angela Williams will be our new Ohio District Directors starting August 1. Also, it was announced that Lloyd and Becky Glydewell will be our new Southwest ADD s replacing Tim & Linda Fleming. Let s support them and wish them the best! Don t forget, we have our 3rd Spirit Night at the Waffle House by the Greene in Beavercreek, Ohio. Tell your friends to come out and join us for a good economical meal that will help to support Chapter F just by their dining with us! Also, read all the info that Lloyd has shared for the July ride schedule. The overnight to Amish Country was cancelled due to the fact that the Buckeye Rally was in that area, and so many folks went to it! But, instead, Rick and Deana have invited us up to share their front row seats in their yard to watch the Dayton Air show! Have fun and RIDE SAFE! Dan and Donna Hello to everyone. We have been having some really good rides with fantastic participation. I truly hope that if you haven t been able to join us you will look at the ride schedule and join us for some really good riding and lots of fun. We do have a lot of rides and events coming up, so please come on out and enjoy the rides as we continue to find new roads and enjoy all the friends that join us. Upcoming Rides and Events: June 26 th Chapter F gathering with a lunch ride to the Wooden Shoe in Minster, Ohio. (Heard this was a great place to eat. ) June 30 th through July 3 rd Wing Ding Des Moines, Iowa If you re going, we wish you a very Safe trip and hope you have lots of fun. July 11 th Half Day ride to the Airport Restaurant in Urbana, Ohio. We will meet at the Burger King on Dayton Yellow Springs Road at 11:00 a.m. (Also a good place to eat.) July 12 th Dessert ride. Destination to be announced. July 17 th Cookout at Rick & Deana Petersens house in near Vandalia during Dayton Air Show. ( Chapter will furnish Hotdogs, Hamburgers and Chicken Breasts on the grill. Please bring a covered dish to share and what you want to drink.) (The ride for Amish country that was scheduled for the weekend of July 17 th & 18 th has been canceled.) July 20 th Chapter Fundraiser Spirit night at Waffle House located at 4382 Indian Ripple Road, Beavercreek, Ohio. Make sure to take your flyer out of the newsletter. We will be meeting there at 6:30 p.m. We really hope to see everyone on the rides and just a reminder that we still need some ride leaders. Please check the ride schedule and sign up for a ride and get your name in the bucket for a chance to win a paid registration to the Buckeye Rally Ride Safe, Ride Often and Ride Smart.! Lloyd 2

SITUATIONAL AWARENESS Howdy, Last month and during our last meeting I discussed being alert verses focusing. I would like to take it one step further and include situational awareness. In review; some of the things that contribute to being alert are things we take for granted; items like simply getting a good night s sleep, regular exercise, good diet, being familiar with your bike and many more. On the other hand, things that affect our alertness are a restless night, prescription drugs, alcohol, poor diet, personal situations you are dealing with that you are unable to block out of your mind, aging and many more. As an individual, we must be able to measure our alertness, especially if you will be on a cycle and ask ourselves if this ride is really that important. Several chapter members have expressed concern about the alertness of chapter members riding in a group situation, so I felt it was necessary for the safety of those doing group riding to talk in more detail about this topic. We need to remember that it is not just ourselves that we are putting in danger if we are not aware of what is going on around us, but we are also endangering the lives of those riding with and near us. We need to protect our riders. I mentioned situational awareness: our minds process thousands of bits of information at the same time and does a good job of prioritizing them. If we are alert, we use this information to its limits, and the results are amazing. An example we can relate to is group riding, if you would try to write down all the inputs to your brain, the list would be endless. On the other hand, if you are simply following the leader and not paying attention to what your brain is telling you, problems result. If we sense one of our fellow riders is having a bad day, I believe we have an obligation to talk to them, explain your concerns, and perhaps this will be the first time the individual will be aware of what they are doing. STAY ALERT RICK PETERSEN Chapter F RE 3

June already? And almost over! For those of you that don t know, we have assembled a recruiting packet and have started to distribute them. The first distribution went to a potential new member, Randy, who was at the Hobo Breakfast. The second distribution went to Competition Accessories to give to all the new and used bike owners. We really hope that this will generate some new members for GWRRA and for Chapter F as well. These packets are available to each and every one of you to distribute to anyone and everyone with a bike. Remember, the bikers don t have to own a Goldwing or Valkerie to belong to GWRRA. They can become an associate member with any bike!! So, if you would like any packets, please let me know. I will also bring some to the June gathering. Since we ve seen you last, there have many fun things that have happened. Of course, the Hobo Breakfast was great fun, watching everybody cooking and trying not to loose their eggs!! Thanks to everyone that brought all the other great goodies! You really didn t even have to cook eggs and bacon (donated by Leon) because there was so much other food to choose from. Some of us went to Natural Bridge and Red River Gorge in Kentucky over Memorial weekend and had a great time. We have also had a dessert ride and dinner ride since last month, so you see we have been really busy having fun!! All this fun needs to be shared with others, so if you see a biker out there, give them a membership packet or an application so they too can have more fun with more people!! We are going to the Buckeye Rally this weekend and the next ride will be after our gathering on June 26 th to The Wooden Shoe in Minster. Come out and join us and have some fun!! Becky Rick and Deana have invited everyone up on Saturday, July 17 at 12:00 p.m. for a cook-out and to watch the Air Show from their front yard. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be the there as well as the U.S. Navy F-18 Super Hornet Demo, U.S. Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcon Demo, and morel We were there last year, and it certainly is spectacular to see these planes flying right over your head. The Chapter will supply the meat (hot dogs, burgers or chicken breasts) for you to cook on the grill yourself. Please bring a side dish to share and your own drinks and lawn chairs. We d like to get an approximate head-count prior to that day, so if you know you are going, please let Lloyd or Dan/Donna know! Hope to see ya there! 4

We just wanted to take a minute and tell you what we have been up to since we last put in an article. It was kind of slow for awhile with all the winter we were having and wasn t doing much except staying home. Finally, the weather decided to cooperate and we have been doing a lot of riding and enjoying our friends. Becky and I led our Memorial Day ride to Kentucky and had a nice turn out of people to go with us. We left Saturday morning and headed to Morehead, Kentucky with 12 bikes and 21 people. Neal rode with us until we arrived in Aberdeen, Ohio, then had to turn back as he had other commitments. Once we arrived in Morehead, Kentucky, everyone headed to their motel and three of us went onto the campground. After getting checked in and the camper s setup, we headed for someplace to eat. After a good dinner and a lot of laughter, we all decided to call it a day. Sunday morning we met everyone at the motel and began our day. We headed towards Natural Bridge and the Red River Gorge. We had a lot of nice twisty roads on the way to the bridge and stopped for lunch at this very small diner we found on the way. I don t believe the people were ready for the crowd they received for lunch, but we all went away with smiles and full stomachs. Yes, we did finally make it to the bridge and had a good time riding the chair lift to the top. What a wonderful view there is to see from the Natural Bridge. After hanging out for awhile, we headed back towards Morehead and, yes, we did ride some very twisty roads. I did find out first hand that if you re riding roads in Kentucky with four numbers you can pretty much believe they are twisty and great on a bike. Becky and I hope that everyone enjoyed the weekend as much as we did and look forward to riding more twisties and having more fun with our friends. Thank you to everyone that went and for making our time with you so special. Lloyd & Becky Join us on Sunday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. for a 1/2 day ride up to the Airport Café Restaurant in Urbana. I looked online and found the following little write-up about the Café. Sounds good to me, homemade food, great prices and a show.watching the planes! a small restaurant at a local general aviation airport. It's not a fancy place by any means, and it's not fivestar fine dining. But the food is homemade, the price is right, and the sight of watching the planes take off and land is pretty neat. It is almost always packed, from what I hear. 5

We had a great trip, and a whole lot of fun! Lloyd and Becky s COY article depicts our events for the weekend. We had folks from Chapters T-2 and J join us, and glad we could all share some good times together! 6

Some pictures from the Chapter F&J Combined HOBO Breakfast, and Dave and Faye Paul receiving their Level 3 Patches! We had a great turnout with over 45 folks coming out to cook their breakfast on a tin can. We had a mystery ride afterwards where everyone takes a turn leading. This went GREAT until Lloyd lost the middle of the group! How could that happen? Ask Lloyd!! But Leon had a Bluetooth phone, and his call from Rudy got us back together in Morrow, OH, and we ended up at The Timbers in Bainbridge for a late lunch/early dinner! Great ride! We are planning a 3 day ride, leaving Saturday, September 4 and returning Monday, September 6 to Elizabethtown, KY and riding the roads of Northern KY and Southern IN, along the Ohio River. We will be traveling thru Rabbit Hash, KY on our way over and eating at Jane s Saddlebag. I already have reservations at a motel and campground less than 1 mile from the motel for folks to stay. We ll eat dinner on Saturday night at the Back Home Restaurant in Elizabethtown. On Sunday morning, we ll leave for an all day ride thru the roads in Northern KY, then cross over the Ohio River, passing by the Cannelton Locks and Dams along the way, and ride thru Southern Indiana, and eat an early dinner at the Overlook Restaurant in Leavenworth, IN. If you think you would be interested in this trip, let Donna know, so I make sure I have enough motel rooms and campsites reserved. More details will be in next month s newsletter. 7
