1 President s Message Welcome to the November SPMA newsletter. I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather and the little bit of rain that we got in the middle of last month. November- Election of New Officers As all of you know, November is the month that we have elections of new officers for the next fiscal year All of the positions are open for nominations up to the time that voting takes place. All members are welcome to nominate someone for office, or have someone nominate them. If you have any questions, please give Joe Johanek a call at ( ) for clarification, or see him at the general meeting prior to voting. Thanksgiving Outing- Potholes Claims. The Association is getting ready for the Annual Thanksgiving Outing to be held at our Pot Holes Claims. The event will take place from the 21st - 25th of November. It's one of our biggest events of the year, next to the San Diego County Fair. All members and their families are welcome. There will be a big Thanksgiving Potluck on Thursday the 22nd, so if you are planning on coming out, bring a dish that will feed 6-8 people. The leftovers, if any will be used for the potluck on Saturday the 24th. There's lots of room for you to park your motor home or tent, on 600 plus acres. There will be a map in the paper Assay, to show the way. Jim and Betty Perkey will be the hosts out there. Give him a call at ( ) or Brian Winter at ( ) if you have questions about finding the place. Looking forward to see all of you out there. December-Annual Christmas Dinner. The Association will provide the main courses (Ham & Turkey). There will be a signup list at the back table for help in providing additional items such as rolls, salads, and deserts. Awards ceremony and raffle will follow dinner. I hope to see you for Christmas dinner CALIFORNIA The first Spanish missionaries arrived in California in the 1700's, but California didn't become a U.S. Territory until 1847, as part of the THE SOUTHWESTERN PROSPECTORS AND MINERS ASSOCIATION - Founded Meeting held the Third Tuesday of Each Month at VFW Post Lemon Grove Ave. Lemon Grove, CA treaty ending the Mexican- American war. Jim Jupena found 47 cents, Terry Stache found $4.55, Debbie Hill got 7 coins, Paul Mullen recovered $1.91 and a tie clip, Jerry Kaplan had a lighter, pot pipe and 44 cents, Robert Hill got $2.58, my wife Zee got $4.60, I was working the water and digging targets at 10 to 12 inches deep that were pieces of junk and $1.05, an earring and a pair of sun glasses, Ton Alaniz got $3.98, knife 3 keys, scissors, an fishing bob, Cliff Vaughan had $4.26 and a car. FROM THE YUMA GROUP Just a reminder to the Yuma Group, starting on the 10th of Nov we will have our group meeting at the Potholes at 10:00 AM Arizona time. With the Yuma Group hosting a Thanksgiving dinner at the end of November I need a little help on obtaining a few items. Additional, we also hosted an outing last February which was very successful and had a large turn-out. So if possible I would also take any suggestions on providing additional activities for the February (Presidents Day) outing. A little bad news, during this latest storm Yuma received a lot of rain, I went out the other day (8 Oct 2018), and the ground is just to wet for a dry washer, with a little luck it could be dry in a few weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing all of you, remember, there is always a pot of coffee on at the house, feel free to drop in for a cup. Best of Luck and God Bless Jim and Betty

6 SPMA CLAIM RULES The SOUTHWESTERN PROSPECTORS AND MINERS ASSOCIATION is a family orientated Association. The health, safety and welfare of our members (children, adults and pets alike) are our prime concerns whether on a field trip or visiting a claim. The Association reserves the right to apply sanctions to a member in violation of any one of the following rules: 1) The SPMA claims are for the use of SPMA members in good standing only. A guest may only go to the Association's claims with a SPMA member in good standing (limit: 1 quest per member). The quest is limited to one visit only. Family members are considered members and shall have the full rights of the member in good standing. A family is defined as a husband and/or wife in good standing and his or her children under 21 years of age. The safety and welfare of children and quests are the sole responsibility of the member that brought them to the field trip or claim site. 2) Animals are discouraged, service animals are excepted. All pets should be on a short lease and protected from the environment which includes other animals that want to eat them. The actions and welfare of the pet are the sole responsibility of the owner. 3) Maximum stay on any claim is 14 days per visit by law, than you must move one mile from your current location also by law. Notify the Association of any visit to any claim through the use of the CLAIM USE FORM. This ASSEMENT WORK is needed to provide proof of work for the claim to remain valid. 4) No dredge over a 5 inch hose diameter is allowed on the claims. No backhoes, tractors or other commercial mining equipment can be used on any claim. Our placer claims can only be used for small scale mining by Association members. 5) Alcohol consumption can be disastrous around prospecting sites, restrict your intake. Poor behavior resulting from over indulgence could cost you your membership. Marijuana possession is illegal on our claims by Federal law. 6) Vehicular traffic in and around the camp site and individual mining operations must be at very slow speeds to avoid unnecessary stirring up of dust, derby and possible injury to individuals and damage to the individual mining operations. All vehicles big or small and motorized equipment must comply with local laws and regulations. When stopped, park your vehicles so as not to block roadways. 7) Individual mining operations are to be respected until that site is abandoned or you are invited to work the same area. Do not infringe upon adjoining operations, mining sites, claims, or private property. Heed WARNING SIGNS and the BUCKET RULE. The bucket is used to mark your diggings for 24 hours with your name and date. The Association's claims are subject to Fish and Game, Corp. of Army Engineers, Dept. of Forestry, BLM, State and Local regulations. 8) Campfires must always be completely extinguished. Some areas do not allow overnight camping or campfires. Be aware of the area you are prospecting and the rules that relate to that area. Refer to the claim map sheet for guidance. 9) Clean up your prospecting site by refilling holes, ditches and picking up trash in the surrounding area of your camping area and prospecting site. If you hauled it in, haul it out. Do not use your holes to dump black water. 10) Noise must cease between 10PM and 6AM the next morning. Sound travels long distances at night. Just moving through the campsite at night can be disruptive. Relax, be quite and enjoy the sounds of Mother Nature. 11) Firearms should be UNLOADED and in SAFE MODE and not be carried openly in the campsite nor discharged within the area of working groups of prospecting locations. Remove yourself to the far reaches of the claim or beyond and always discharged your firearm in a direction away from known populations. 12) All vehicles, prospecting equipment and camping equipment are the sole responsibility of the owner. Do not leave any of these items unattended. The Association provides no security and assumes nor accepts any liability for damage or lose of these items. 13) Members in good standing have priority rights to the claim's parking areas.
