3 A Word From Our Chapter Director Hello again B-2. Boy this year is going quick. We had a great gathering last month, although we didn't make it to the Dairy Queen, I am saving our gift certificate for hopefully this gathering. I haven't got to ride the bike very much because I have been having a lot of trouble with the sciatic nerve, at least that what we think it is, but thanks to Mac Debra and Alex they have picked me up and hauled me around. I made it to Wing Ding because we took my little Mobile shooter if not, I couldn't have made it. (It's just all the fun I have with B-2 ) ha ha. We have some things coming up in October, you don't want to miss, so check your schedule. Don't miss the Burger bus ride, we are teaming up with Chapter S, they are going to meet us there. We hope this is something we can get started with other Chapters and share our fun. I would also like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting our rides and activities. Missie s Recipe of the Month Baked Cajun

4 Missie s Recipe of the Month Baked Cajun Sweet Potato Fries 2 sweet potatoes, cut into wedges about 8 wedges per potato) 1 tablespoon olive oil 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning Preheat oven to 425 degrees. In large bowl, combine all ingredients. Mix well to evenly coat wedges. 4

5 Great Alaskan Ride Two Gold Wing riders departed Key West, Florida on the 1st of June in a quest to be one of the few and the proud who have ridden a Gold Wing to Prudhoe, Ak. Myself, along with Marcus Walton, who I believe is a member of Chapter A in McDonough, Georgia and one of my regular riding buddies, had a plan and we rode the plan. We secured the witness statements from employes at the Department of Public Safety building in Key West as well as a Lieutenant at the Fire Station next door, took photos of ourselves with the bikes at prominent landmarks in Key West and then rode north back to our hotel in Florida City. Day one accomplished! On the 2nd day, our objective was simple. Ride 700 miles north and go home for the night. We prepared for this leg of the ride by insuring that our credit card was on file with the Georgia Peach Pass system which allowed us to continue on without having to stop to pay tolls. Once in the Atlanta area, we went to our respective homes and disposed of the light gear and loaded the serious gear which we anticipated needing on this journey.tents, sleeping bags, extra gas cans, Roadcrafter one piece riding suits and pretty much everything. Day 3 had us going north on I-75 to I-24 west up past Paducah, Ky where we picked up I-57 north to I-64 over to St. Charles, Mo where we had to rough it for that night and stay at the Embassy Suites. We made it in time for Happy Hour. No worries! The weather was perfect, unlike the ride from south Florida where it rained and then rained some more. Our plan was to alter the google route slightly and on day 4, we took I-70 west over to Kansas City, Mo and picked up I-29 North toward Winnipeg since neither of us had ridden in the Province of Manitoba. From there we continued to head west/northwest traveling through the Provinces of Sasketchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and into the Yukon Territory as we traveled to Alaska. We hoteled it all the way up to Edmonton being the last roof over our heads as we decided to use our camping gear during the 1823 mile trek from there to Fairbanks. The ride on the Alcan Highway from Toad River to watson Lake is one of the most beautiful routes ever and I highly recommend it to anyone. Bear, Bison, Mountain Goats and a few other animals of which I had no idea were in abundance. We made it to the Alaskan Border on Day 11 and when we crossed over, the customs guy informed us that the gas station 4 miles in was no longer open so we added a gallon of gas from our stash to insure we made it the 44 miles to the next station. Light rain and cold all day. We found a hotel in Delta Junction for the night as the weather was not conductive to camping out. Day 12, we rode to Fairbanks, found a Hardees and had breakfast before we hit the Walmart across the street and stocked up on stuff and then headed north on the dreaded Dalton Highway. We stopped and fueled up at the Hilltop Truckstop and headed north. Making it to the Artic Circle was a feat within itself cause once you leave Fairbanks and head north, that is Adventure Bike Heaven. The BMW GS Adventure's, The KTM 990 whatever and every other dual sport on the planet owns that highway. Just like me research says. Dirt, Gravel and rocks. and mud. Plenty of mud! We made it to Coldfoot which is right at 250 miles or halfway to the top, Prudhoe Bay. Pulling into the gas station/hotel/restuarant/oasis, we were the only Gold Wings for at least 250 miles and those guys were looking at us like we were crackheads. They wanted $229 for a room in this elongated modular trailer. Marcus and I both decided that's not gonna happen. We rode north for 13 miles to Wiseman, Ak and found a B&B where we paid $100 for a room and had a kitchen out the door and at the end of the building and a separate facility to shower. Heaven! We had met a lot of bikers who had attempted to get over the Atigun Pass that day and were not able to due to the weather. Wet and muddy. We spoke to the Dept of Forestry folks at the welcome center in Coldfoot as they monitor the weather and were told that the weather up there was gonna get worse tomorrow. We rested and the next day, Day 13, the weather got worse. This time, snow was reported along with the rain and mud. We decided not to risk it and turned back and headed south. We were 224 miles from our objective but we both felt that we had made the right decision. Along the way up, we had met several guys who had made the attempt and nobody made it across that day or the next. I think we both were really glad to make it back to the Hilltop Truckstop as several miles before that, the road is once again paved. We fueled up, went into Fairbanks and immediately found a car wash as sprayed the mud off the bikes and ourselves. We took turns spraying one another down while still wearing the suits. What did we have to loose? We remembered what one guy told us about the University of Alaska dorms renting rooms for $35 per person and made our way over there where we were able to shower, wash clothes and prepare for the long trek back home tomorrow.
