3 Welcome Welcome I am delighted to welcome you to our open day here at Nottingham Trent University was a really successful year for us, so now is a great time to come and find out if NTU is for you. NTU is a teaching-intensive university. Whilst our academic research feeds directly into how we deliver our teaching, it stands as just one of four pillars in our approach to your education. The most important of these pillars is the systematic design and delivery of the curriculum. Enabling our students to learn, to develop, and to pursue their chosen career is what drives NTU. We weave together the academic and the vocational for example, all of our incoming students are required to undertake an assessed work-related experience underpinned by a tutorial system that helps you get the most out of your time with us. Around 96% of our 2016 graduates had a job six months after leaving us*; more importantly, almost 80% were in graduate entry employment or education. Our third pillar is the quality of our facilities. For example, The Pavilion on our Clifton Campus won the Buildings that Inspire category at The 2017 Guardian University Awards, in part because it generates more energy than it consumes. The fourth and final pillar is the range of activities we encourage our students to undertake outside of the curriculum, supported by one of the UK s outstanding Students Unions. These can encompass sport, music, volunteering, students societies and much more. All this in a place students have voted one of the world s top *DLHE survey results 2015/16. five student cities and which is regularly identified as one of the UK s most affordable locations. Taken together, our four pillars mean that NTU provides the highest quality of educational experience available in the UK. You do not have to take my word for this. The UK Government recently confirmed that view in the results of its Teaching Excellence Framework where NTU was granted a Gold rating. We were named Modern University of the Year in The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and were awarded the title of University of the Year 2017 by Times Higher Education. This open day will help you decide if NTU is the right place for you to take the next step in achieving your ambitions and discovering who you could be. You re welcome to bring guests along, but please be aware that we ll give priority placing to students if a talk is busy. 5 Frequently asked questions Can I bring friends and family along? You re welcome to bring guests along. You ll have been asked to tell us how many visitors you are bringing along on the online booking form. I ve already attended an open day. Do I need to come again? Many students find the opportunity to learn more about their course to make sure it s the right choice for them very useful. Top Tips Health and safety Road safety Be extremely careful when crossing the roads on and around our campus. First aid If you require first aid, please contact the main reception, security, or a member of staff. Fire safety If you hear the fire alarm, leave the building by the nearest safe exit. Staff will show you the way. Do not use the lifts. If you re unable to evacuate a building via the stairs, use the disabled refuge points to make contact to staff. They can be found in stairwells and common areas. Where can I get food and drink? Whether you re looking for a quick coffee before your next talk, or a proper sit-down lunch, we ve got plenty of options for you. Just want a snack? We have complimentary drinks and cakes for all our visitors in the Newton building. Need something more substantial? There are catering outlets across the campus with a tasty range of snacks, sandwiches, and hot and cold drinks on offer. Fancy dining out during lunch or after the open day? We re just a five-minute walk from the city centre, so there s plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from. 5

6 Getting here Nottingham is located in the heart of England with excellent transport links and within easy reach of the motorway. Travelling by car The closest car parks to the City Campus are Trinity Square (NG1 4BT, costing ), Talbot Street (NG1 5GG, costing 4 16), or the Victoria Centre (NG1 3QN, costing ). However, we recommend you use the Park and Ride services as city centre parking is limited. Visit for more information, including blue badge parking. From the north, south or west Nottingham has a series of tram lines and Park and Rides. All trams will pass the Nottingham Trent University stop. Full details can be found at but your options will include: leaving the M1 at J24, use Clifton South (satnav postcode: NG11 8BF). Journey time: 28 mins leaving the M1 at J25, use Toton Lane (satnav postcode: NG9 7JA). Journey time: 38 mins leaving the M1 at J26 use: Phoenix Park and Ride (satnav postcode: NG8 6AS). Journey time: 18 mins; or Wilkinson Street (satnav postcode: NG7 7NU). Journey time: 12 mins. Price: 4 adult day ticket via ticket machine (change given). Parking is free. You must buy a ticket before you board the tram.* Frequency: Every 7 minutes. From the east Park and Ride (bus) satnav postcode: NG2 4BE Journey time: 12 mins Visit racecourseparkandride for full details. From the A52 follow signs to Nottingham and then follow signs for the Park and Ride, situated at Nottingham Racecourse (just off Colwick Loop Road). The bus will drop you off on Lower Parliament Street by Wilkos (see map ref. on city centre map). The University is an eight-minute walk from the bus stop (see map ref. R ). Walk up Upper Parliament Street until you reach the Theatre Royal and turn right. Follow the tram tracks to our front door. Price: Return bus travel to the city centre is 3 for up to five people. Frequency: Every 15 minutes. 6 *Better tram deal if more than one person travelling. At weekends you can buy an Off Peak Group ticket for 5. This allows unlimited travel all day for 2 adults (over 16), plus 3 people up to the age of 16. Children under 5 travel free.

Visit for timetables. Take the tram from the NET tram stop next to the station heading for Phoenix Park or Hucknall. It should take about 10 minutes to reach the University. Price: 3.50 return per adult via ticket machine (change given). You must buy a ticket before you board the tram*. (*See better tram deal for groups on page 3). Frequency: Every 7 minutes. Travelling by coach Coach and Megabus services are located on Station Street, close to the train station (see city centre map). You can either catch a tram from the railway station, or you can walk. Details for the tram can be found under the information for travelling by rail. Walking takes around 20 minutes. Walk up Station Street, past Nottingham station on your left, then turn right onto Carrington Street. Cross Collin Street and walk through Broadmarsh Shopping Centre. Upon emerging on the other side, follow the pedestrianised Lister Gate and Wheeler Gate until you reach Old Market Square. Follow the tram tracks up the hill and past the Theatre Royal.
