BEDROCK-NEWS THE OFFICICIAL QUARTERLY PUBLICATION OF THE BEDROCK PROSPECTORS CLUB July, August, September 2017 MONTHLY MEETING PLACE PUYALLUP MASONIC HALL 1005 West Pioneer Ave. HELD ON THE THIRD MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH 7:30 pm 9:30 pm Bedrock s Gold Show in Lacey, WA: Our Gold show wasn t a huge success, but it was much more successful for the club that it was last year. If it hadn t been for the curtain rental vendor not being available and the club having to provide our own curtains, we would have just barely broke even. That includes the donations we made to Toys for Tots and Resources Coalition. Some of our vendors didn t do as well and that is a serious issue. The board has recommended and the club has decided that we will move the show to late fall (September/October). This will move our show away from all the other gold shows, provide opportunities for early Christmas shopping, and improve our attendance. We are currently looking for a venue to hold our show at. Ellensburg Third Graders Gold Panning: Jim Curtiss and Jason Gurnard organized a gold panning experience for a bunch of third graders at Valley View Elementary in Ellensburg. We had a good time with the kids and spent about 2 hours with them (two classes at a time). We did the training in the school cafeteria. Blewett Mining District: The Blewett Mining District was reformed during the Monroe Gold Show. We reviewed and corrected the bylaws in a line by line review at the Cashmere Gold Show. The new Bylaws are still being edited, but they are coming along and are nearly complete. A final vote approving them is in the works and they ll be mailed out to future district members soon. The next meeting is scheduled for August at the Resources Rendezvous at Liberty.

Salmon Creek Carnelians and Coprolite: Jim Curtiss led a bunch (about 20) of Bedrockers down to Salmon Creek looking for Carnelian agates and coprolites. Everyone had a good time and there weren t many complaints on the walk out (No one had any breath after the walk uphill). Dig some, look some! We had some luck! Lots of digging! Sit and dig!

Cape Disappointment Gold: We met at Cape Disappointment for a little beach time, beach gold mining, and a pot luck! Some of us stayed a whole week and got so relaxed it was tough drive home! The Gathering Bedrock Clan Little Mining, lotta talk The gold was on the surface and we didn t have to dig much deeper that inches. Everyone had a great time and the weather was great! Blewett Claims Cleanup: We had about 55 to 60 people on our May claims cleanup at Blewett Pass. The potluck on Saturday night had about 40 people enjoying the comradery and meal. We had a busy day with getting the new claims signs up and the old ones removed, repairing the road next to the meadow and at the small culvert, and cleaning up the Scotty Creek campground. Nearly all the claims were in good shape and were easy to cleanup. Most of us use recirculation systems using the salt water (the fresh water is reserved for the campground and shouldn t be used on the beach) Road repair Water Gatherers! 15 tons and what do you get?

The sign crew We need to remind everyone that the club rules for working on the claim require that our dogs be on a leash. This is especially true while in the camping areas and our dogs are protecting their Moms and Dads, taking food off another member s table, and just generally being dogs. Is it level? We also had a problem with the port o potty keys. We had some that just flat wouldn t work. If that happens let us know and we ll get a new one to you ASAP. We re sorry about it, but we had 300 keys made at the same time and if you got a bad one we ll try to get you one as soon as we can.

The Load Claim Review: We finally had a chance to get out and explore the load claims a little more and are working on the access rules. You can expect to hear more info on this before the end of June when we update the claims rules documents. Please fill out the worksheets! The lower adit has collapsed completely and is too dangerous for entry of any kind. It is interesting to see how it was put together. We may leave it as is for viewing, but may remove some of the glass (for safety and to keep it out of the creek). The upper adit and the open pit will be available for member access after we get the rules written and reviewed. In the meantime, here s some pictures to whet your appetite! Ready for the potluck? The Front Door of the Lower Adit/Portal Side View of the Lower Adit Let s Eat!

The Collapsed Lower Adit/Portal The upper adit leads into a tunnel that penetrates the hill side about thirty feet. The floor is rough and has some soccer ball sized rock loose enough to fall on your head through careless action. The seam that we think they were following can be seen at the top of the adit (different colored rock). We took a sample from the seam that set off our pin pointer. We ll be looking for volunteers to help clear some of the rock from the floor for safer access. Pockets had three big holes below the ordinary high water line (4 ft. X 4 ft. X 3 ft. deep) that we needed to back fill. We cannot allow that to continue. If you notice someone leaving without filling in their holes, let one of the club officers know and we ll take it from there. If it is you STOP. You can lose your membership over this. (We do allow holes left open when above the ordinary high water line, but there are some required conditions.) The wood that is in the Scotty Creek campground can be used anywhere on the claims, but cannot be taken home unless you have a USFS permit. The wood is available for anyone to use so enjoy it. I talked to USFS law enforcement officer about the abandoned trailer in the meadow and it is on their list to address. It should be gone soon. Lots of folks had a good prospecting experience and showed off pans with some pickers. We probably saw close to pickers. Some of it coming from the new claim. The port o potties were a big success too. Make sure to check your keys as soon as you can. We have had a few that didn t work and had to be replaced. Upper Adit is a difficult climb! Upper Adit Whew! What a climb! Bedrock Miner s Rendezvous: The Bedrock Rendezvous went off without a hitch. Charlotte Marriner did another great job and has decided to help next year s coordinator pull it off. If you d like to help lead this activity and get it all planned next year let us know. The hotdogs and hamburgers were super and well prepared (thanks Richard!). Good eats, good company, and good times for everyone. We discovered that we have an issue with folks not filling in mining holes on our claims. MT

We lost one of our Lifetime members this month. William G. Addy was born January 17,1926 in Park City, Utah. He spent his childhood there before the family moved to San Francisco where he completed his high school education. He joined the navy in 1942 and lived on a sub chaser for two years. He fought in two major battles in World War II including lwo Jima. He was a Sonar Man Second Class on the ship SC1272. He moved to Fife, WA in 1958 where he helped to build a house with Oscar Holmdale. It was the first house on what is now Holm Road. It was in Fife that he met his wonderful wife Evalou at a dance class. He instigated the development of the Fife Community Swim Pool, was president of the Fife High School PTA and he helped construct many of the Fife Daffodil floats for the annual parade. He was on the Fife Planning Commission and active with the I.B.E.W. Credit Union. After many years as a journeyman electrician, he retired in 1991from Paramount Electric Company h in Tacoma, WA. He joined the Bedrock Prospectors Club after retirement and enjoyed many gatherings and outings with his wife and family. He enjoyed many breakfasts with a distinguished group of retired men he knew from his electrical career. They called themselves The Romeos, which stands for Retired Old Men Eating Out. He traveled with Deanne and his wife and grandchild Bethany to the Oregon coast many years, while Bethany was growing up. He also traveled to Las Vegas, NV with his son for his 90 th birthday where the above picture was taken. He is survived by his two brothers, Tom and Jack, his wife of 54 years, Evalou, his daughter Deanne and son Dean and granddaughter Bethany. He passed away at his home May 20,2017 with his family at his bedside. He will be missed in the Bedrock Family.
