2 DIRECTOR S MESSAGE For nearly a year now, I have been trying to start up a musicians club. It s finally off the ground thanks to Volunteer Member, Dennis White. He has recruited a handful of musicians who met for the first time Saturday February 18. If you are a musician (any level) please contact me and I ll provide you with up-to-date information. Included in the group of musicians are trumpet, clarinet, piano, guitar and accordion, bass, and sax. Each musician will be given musical homework to practice by. By the time you receive this newsletter, the musicians will have met a second time to play as a group. Eventually this group hopes to play as a band at some Senior Center s functions. Another club that we re trying to get started is a photography club. Although you might think that winter is not the best time to start this club, it might be the best time to start planning for the spring excursions and to determine what you want out of this club. Being on the ground floor will give you the benefit of having a voice in what you want from the club. Give me a call and let s open a dialogue. The Line Dance instructors Bill Swayne and Valerie Harrison will be conducting an introductory work shop on March 11 from 10 12:00 pm in the Burback Hall. If you ve ever wanted to learn line dancing, but was afraid because you didn t know the steps or have two left feet this is the perfect opportunity to learn from the start. Many of the line dances all have the same patterns, turns etc. Once you become accustomed to the basics, the easier it will be to learn the various dances. We have regular line dancing classes on Monday and Friday from 10:00 11:30 am. The cost for this work shop will be $5.00. One last thing.mark your calendar June 10. This will be a fundraiser to be held at the ARD Regional Park Gymnasium located at 3770 Richardson Dr. Auburn. It will be an afternoon event of swing dancing and dining featuring the Moonlight Swing (Glen Miller style) 17 pc band. This band played for us last year in April and it was a great success allowing us to raise nearly $2,000. This year we re shooting for $15,000. There will also be a silent auction for some great prizes. Ticket prices and time is still to be determined as of this date. If you want your swing fix now, we re planning a Sock Hop sometime in March (or April) on a Saturday. Barry Connick 2
