1 Happy Halloween en LEEP Family! We are beginning g to see signs of fall outside and in the stores. At LEEP we are planning many fun activities and events for the upcoming months, including a Halloween dance that will be held in the cafeteria at MRCI on Thursday, October 25 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. You have plenty of time to plan your costume. Please join us for music, snacks, and prizes! We will be giving away a couple of free 2019 memberships so please be sure to invite all of your friends! All ages are welcome. Please note this is not a LEEP staffed event, so staff/guardians must be present with participants as needed. Please remember that we have another fun LEEP event coming up as well! Our 2nd annual Ugly Sweater and Karaoke Contest will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Mankato Event Center. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. LEEP members can enjoy the evening for just $5! Tickets are $10 for the general public to join in the fun. There will also be prizes! We are excited to celebrate some great teams and individuals that competed in Special Olympics in August. We are also in the midst of area and state Special Olympics competitions, as well as the start of our Special Olympics bowling season this month. The LEEP staff and I look forward to seeing you soon! 2 SPECIAL EVENTS SATURDAY, OCT 6 Bridges Bay Water Park Join us as we travel to Bridges Bay Water Park in Okoboji, IA! Experience the exhilarating water slide as it takes you right outside the building and back in again before your fi nal drop into the plunge pool. Have a fun day enjoying all of the water rides! *Cost includes staffi ng, 1 admission ticket, event, 2 meals, and drop-off transportation. * Bring swimsuit, dryclothes, and extra cash for additional snacks and souvenirs. Meet at LEEP: 8:00am Drop offs: 6:00-6:30pm Cost: $100/$107 SUNDAY, OCT 7 - NO TRANSPORT AVAILABLE "Music Man" at MSU Ted Paul Theatre Join us for the classic "The Music Man" at MSU's Ted Paul Theatre. The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall. We will be having lunch before the show. *Cost includes 1 ticket, event, 1 meal, staffi ng. *Please bring extra spending money for any additional snacks. The Mavericks need your help by cheering them on to beat the Golden Bears! Bring your friends for a fun afternoon at Blakeslee Field. Before the game we will eat pizza at Pagliai's Pizza.*Cost includes admission ticket, event, 1 meal, staffi ng, and drop-off transportation. Meet at LEEP: 11:00am Drop offs: 5:00-5:30pm Cost: $60/$67 SUNDAY, OCT 14 Montgomery Apple Orchard & Corn Maze Venture with us to this beautiful apple orchard where you can pick your own apples! To satisfy your hunger this fall try their apples, jellies, jams. salsas, caramel apples and much more. Along with apple picking there will be a corn maze and live entertainment! After a fun fi lled afternoon we will stop at a local restaurant for dinner. *Cost includes 1 ticket, event, staffi ng, 1 meal, and drop-off transportation. *Event will include walking and standing. *Please bring extra money for additional snacks and souvenirs. 3 SATURDAY, OCT 20 Northern Frights Haunted House Come Join us as we head to Northern Frights just in time for all of the gouls and goblins to come out of the woodwork! Prepare for the chills and thrills as you wander the haunted hause complex. Before we get "spooked", we will enjoy a nice buffet meal at Pizza Ranch. *Cost of the event includes 1 admission ticket, event, 1 meal, staffi ng, and drop-off transportation. Remember to dress for the weather. (This event is not wheelchair accessible). Meet at LEEP: 5:00pm Drop offs: 9:30-10:00pm Cost: $63/$70 SUNDAY, OCT 21 "The Mousetrap" at MSU Ted Paul Theatre Come and join us for "The Mousetrap". A group of strangers is stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm, one of whom is a murderer. The suspects include the newly married couple who run the house, and the suspicions in their minds nearly wreck their perfect marriage. Others are a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired Army major, a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift, and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone.*cost includes 1 ticket, event, 1 meal, staffi ng, and drop-off transportation. *Please bring extra spending money for any additional snacks. Meet at LEEP: 11:00am Drop offs: 5:00-5:30pm Cost: $67/$74 SATURDAY, OCT 27 - NO TRANSPORT AVAILABLE MSU Hockey Game and Loose Moose Grab your Maverick gear as we head to the Verizon Wireless Center to watch the MSU Maverick Hockey team take on Alaska. Before the game we will eat at Loose Moose. *Cost of the event includes 1 admission ticket, 1 meal, staffi ng, event. Bring extra cash for additional snacks and souvenirs. Time:6:30-8:00pm Limit: 30 TUESDAY, OCT 23 Pumpkin Decorating Get ready for Halloween and put your artistic abilities to the test as we use a variety of supplies to decorate pumpkins at the LEEP Rec Center. Time: Limit: 20 TUESDAY, OCT 30 Mini Pie Baking The LEEP kitchen will be fi lled with delicious smells of the season as we bake a holiday favorite pumpkin pie! We will be learning to make personal-sized pumpkin pies. Everyone will get one mini pie to take home. Time:6:30-8:00pm Limit: 20 WEDNESDAY, OCT 31 Drop-in Trick-or-Treating Come by the LEEP offi ce to say hello and grab a treat. Time: 8:30-4:30 pm 4 Cost: FREE
5 SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOWLING Get ready for some strikes, good friends and fun memories, because it is time once again for Bowling! This year our Special Olympics Bowling program will be separate from our LEEP League bowling program. Dates: Wednesdays, September 26 - December 1, 2018 Limit: 72 Location: Wow! Zone Time: Tournament Dates: State- Saturday, December 1st, 2018 Uniforms: Bowling Shirts will be required for competition. If you don t already have a uniform, make sure to provide your shirt size upon registration. *Replacement uniform shirts have a $10 fee. Cost: $ for entire season *includes: all practices, facility rental, coaching staff and sports fees Payment Plan: 1st Payment: $50 due Wednesday, September 26 2nd Payment: $25 due Wednesday, October 24 3rd Payment: $25 due Wednesday, November 21 Practice Transportation: Additional $25 for 1- way practice transportation Additional $50 for 2- way practice transportation Pick up for bowling will be at Cherry Street Bus Stop at 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. at MRCI Map Drive.
