2 INVITATION On behalf of the Australian Society for Veterinary Pathology and the 2017 Committee, it gives us great pleasure to invite you to Sydney, New South Wales to attend the 2017 Scientific Conference, Following the Diagnostic Pathway. This is our premier annual educational and social event on the Australian Veterinary Pathology calendar and the ASVP NSW Committee are excited to be holding the conference in Sydney this year. The conference is being hosted at the Ridges, Camperdown. Sydney has many attractions to offer delegates and their families. Sydney has many iconic and historical destinations and landmarks to offer the visitor such as the Sydney Opera House, the beautiful harbour and Bridge, great restaurants, Taronga Zoo, shopping, galleries and museums. The 2017 conference will explore the diagnostic pathway from start to finish, presenting new information on advances in testing, and new literature that informs our understanding of pathogenesis, diagnosis, and prognosis. Designed to be practically relevant, the program will revolve around carefully selected case material across production, companion, and wildlife/zoo/exotic animals and will be used to highlight key aspects of the pathology diagnostic process. Members presentations will be scheduled alongside those of the guest speaker, to highlight our own expertise. We are pleased to announce IDEXX as our 2017 Conference Partner, and delegates will have the opportunity to chat and learn more about IDEXX from the IDEXX representatives at their exhibition stand. The conference will offer two social events, the Happy Hour on the Friday evening and the Conference Dinner on the Saturday evening. Join the fun with fellow conference delegates and the ASVP New South Wales Committee to finish each conference day in a relaxed social atmosphere enjoying the wonderful Sydney ambience. Our well regarded cytology and histology mystery slides, along with the interactive clicker sessions are once again on our program. Our program will continue to provide the opportunity for members to present abstracts on a wide range of interesting topics over three days.

3 Pre-conference event: IDEXX Meet and Greet Tour and afternoon tea KEYNOTE SPEAKER Dr. Pesavento is a Swarthmore College graduate and received her PhD in 1997 from Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. She received her DVM and pathology residency training sequentially at UC Davis. After two years of diagnostic research at the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratories, she joined the faculty in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, at the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis. The organizing focus of work in the Pesavento laboratory is to investigate the biology of interactions between viruses and their target tissues. Depending on the virus, this work ranges from the molecular development of viral constructs to perform cell biology or diagnostics, to tissue culture models of virus: host cell interaction. The laboratory has current focused efforts on viral discovery in intensively housed animals such as small animals in the shelter environment, or wildlife at the human-animal interface. ASVP Student Members and new career pathologists are invited to attend IDEXX Rydalmere Laboratory on Thursday 21st September The two hour tour will commence at 3pm. This is a great opportunity for those ASVP student members who are attending the conference to gain an insight into the veterinary pathology industry and how IDEXX supports the diagnostic pathway. The visit comprises a laboratory tour, meeting the professional team and afternoon tea. 6 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS The ASVP Executive invites you to actively participate in the 2017 Conference Program by the submission of a member presentation. Member presentations held throughout the conference are the backbone of our annual conferences and are a visible representation of the broad spectrum of endeavours our members undertake. The health and vitality of veterinary pathology in Australia comes from opportunities such as this conference and allows members with a passionate interest in veterinary pathology to share their knowledge and experiences with each other. It is a particularly valuable opportunity for trainee veterinary pathologists to present their findings in front of a professional audience. We look forward to receiving abstracts from members, and those they mentor, across the broad range of the sub categories in veterinary pathology, however, priority will be given to those with a relevance to the conference theme. Please note that the deadline for the receipt of abstracts is no later than June Requirements: All submissions must meet the following guidelines. Abstracts that are submitted in accordance with these specifications will be excluded from the review process: Submissions are only accepted from financial ASVP members Accepted presenters must register and pay for conference attendance [abstract presentation day as a minium] and present their paper in person. Conference registration and payment of any outstanding membership fees must be completed by close of conference registration date. Should this not occur, the abstract will be precluded from publication and the program. Accepted abstracts will be published in the 2017 Conference Handbook which is distributed to all conference delegates Conference presentations will be made available to delegates post conference as either a download or via the ASVP website All abstracts are to be in English All authors acknowledge that should the abstract be accepted it constitutes a formal commitment to present at a time appointed by the ASVP Executive Committee Presenters will need to keep to a strict 15 minute program session, comprising a 12 minute oral presentation with a 3 minutes question time. Presenters may take the full 15 minutes with no question time. Please time yourself to avoid incomplete presentations. Submitted abstracts should provide a brief description of up to 200 words (excluding the title) Evaluation: The ASVP Committee will review each submitted abstract and will consider according to: relevance to the conference theme relevance to veterinary pathology scientific value or potential clinical value originality of work standard of submission & clarity of abstract overall impression There are a limited number of session times on the program and the order of receipt will also be taken into consideration when finalising the program. 9 ADMINISTRATION Liability: By registering for the ASVP 2017 Conference, you agree and acknowledge that you are participating in ASVP Conference activities on your own free and intentional will. You acknowledge this freely and knowingly and that you are, as a result, able to participate in ASVP Conference events and hereby assume responsibility for your own well-being. This acknowledgement includes your guest(s) participation in any evening events. Photography Waiver: The ASVP Conference plans to take photographs/video footage during the 2017 conference for use in ASVP news, promotional material, or inclusion on the ASVP website. Media may be reproduced in print, electronic or other media. By participating in the ASVP 2017 Conference, you grant ASVP the right to use your name and/or photograph for such purposes. All postings are the property of ASVP and may be displayed or used by ASVP for any purpose. Cancellation policy: Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing/ and received prior to 30 th August, Registration fees will be forfeited by any delegate who does not cancel in writing by the closing date. However, substitution of registration is permitted at the same category level once ASVP has been advised in writing of the full name and details of the substitute. No partial refunds will be given for sessions not attended. Refunds will not be paid until after the conference. Program Changes: ASVP reserves the right to make changes to the conference program. If any changes are necessary, the information will be posted on the ASVP website at and every effort will be made to contact delegates in advance of the conference.
