Te Hiku Community Board (Whatuwhiwhi Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Lawrie ATKINSON Whatuwhiwhi Residents & Ratepayers Assn. Community Board (Whatuwhiwhi Subdivision) area. Having already served two terms as a Board Member on the Te Hiku Community Board, I recognise the importance of sustainable growth for the Karikari Peninsula and surrounding districts. Being on the crossroads of State Highway 1 and Highway 10, Awanui is recognised as a tourist destination in its own right; not just a satellite of Kaitaia. Having grown up and lived within the Whatuwhiwhi subdivision for most of my life I am very passionate in regards to the wellbeing of the area and will continue to work towards achieving the goals and needs of the residents in the area. I would appreciate the continued support of the residents in the Whatuwhiwhi subdivision.
Te Hiku Community Board (Whatuwhiwhi Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Petrina HODGSON Community Board (Whatuwhiwhi Subdivision) area. Kia ora kotou katoa. I'm a committed resident of Te Tai Tokerau. My whanau live in Kaingaroa on a self-sustainable block of land and are dedicated to preserving the beautiful, natural habitat we live in. I'm honoured to be raising my son in such a unique environment and I want to preserve it for coming generations. I'm a founding member of Mangatete Landcare Group and part of 'Look Up Te Hiku', a team of like-minded Te Hiku residents working towards common goals. Through my job at the newspaper I'm out talking and listening to community members about issues that concern us all; crime, employment and the future of the Far North. I believe a democratic society involves all residents, young and old, men and women, taking part in its future. Community boards are an important voice for a community and I intend to work hard to make sure we're heard.
Te Hiku Community Board (North Cape Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Murray RAE Community Board (North Cape Subdivision) area. Formerly Operations Manager for Bendon Ltd - 33 years Chartered Accountant. Former president and director Auck Manufacturers and Employers. Later acquired Waste Food Distribution Co in Auck and the last 10 years operated charter fishing out of Houhora. Presently Houhora Harbour warden. Born Kaitaia. Educated Kaitaia College then joined ANZ Bank 1956 transferred to Auckland 1960 completed varsity qualification Property owner Houhora since 1972 connection to Houhora since Father went to school at Pukenui Have had financial interest in avocado farm since sold. Have long been aware of enormous district potential regards horticulture, agriculture, fishing and tourism. Would like to help contribute to ongoing development of community and its people.
Te Hiku Community Board (North Cape Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Willy VAN DER SLUIS Community Board (North Cape Subdivision) area. Deputy Chair of Whakawhiti Ora Pai Medical Centre 'past' 10 years. President Houhora rate payers. Board member Araiawa hall committee community board member.
Adele GARDNER I was born in 1950 in Kaitaia and attended the local primary, intermediate and college schools. My interests are bowls, bridge and voluntary Trustee/Administrator for Far North ICT 20/20 Trust (Computers in Homes). Completing school I worked as a bank officer, then as an air hostess and also trained in Wellington at Foreign Affairs, where I was posted to Seoul, South Korea. This posting gave me a huge insight as to how New Zealand operated as a nation overseas. I met my husband to be (Jim) in Seoul. We married and lived in Germany and England before returning to Kaitaia to live in 1985, where we owned our own business for seven years. Finally I worked for the Far North District Council for 14 years in Customer Services and other departments. With my knowledge of Council services/policies I will be committed to serve the residents in the Kaitaia Subdivision Area.
William Francis POMARE Kia ora Koutou. My name is William Pomare (Billy). I originally come from Panguru Hokianga. I have been married for 18 years to my lovely wife, and we have two beautiful active children. My family and I have settled in Kaitaia. I'm a volunteer for St John Ambulance based in Kaitaia. I'm also on the Board of Trustees at Pompallier Catholic School and now into my 3rd Term and a member on the Council at St Joseph Parish. I'm also a Board of Trustee on my Marae Ngatimanawa in Panguru. I have been on the Board for 12 years. I have been approached from people in our Community, to stand as a candidate on the Community Board to be the voice for our local Community and to be involved in all the events and activities that arise within our Community. No reira. Tena Koutou Tena Koutou. Tena tatou Katoa.
Rosanne TAYLOR Look Up Te Hiku I am also standing for Northland DHB. My name is Rosanne Jean Taylor, I live at Pamapuria on a lifestyle block with my husband, we also own Resene Colorshop in Kaitaia. I have three young adult children who also live in the Kaitaia area. I am running for the Community Board because I have pride in Kaitaia and want to see it grow into an area that provides a safe and welcoming place to those that already live here and those that wish to visit. I am running as part of a team (Look Up Te Hiku) so I am not just an individual trying to speak for many. The team is made up of like-minded people who care about the Far North and what it has to offer. My aim is to see Kaitaia progress and your supportive vote will enable me to do my part.
Ngawai HEREWINI I hold fast to the values of Whanau and believe in a healthy vibrant community. The Far North is an exciting and diverse collection of people and the persons chosen to sit on this Board must understand the needs of this area. I am proud, conscientious, honest and I want everyone to have access to good education, health and meaningful employment. I believe in myself totally and ask for your support to represent you on the Community Board. I have held positions on a number of boards and bring that experience with me. I am comfortable in all situations and will be a great representative of you the people.
John KENDERDINE Independent My principal place of residence is not in the Te Hiku I have lived in the Far North since 1994 & have no desire to ever live anywhere else. I spent 17 years overseas which taught me how incredibly privileged I am to be able to live here. I have been closely involved with the Far North Environment Centre, Doubtless Bay Marine Protection Group, Far North Organic Growers, Transition Town Kaitaia, Monganui Cruising Club, Kaitaia Time Bank and Bushland Trust. This demonstrates my commitment to environmental issues & supports my belief that the Environment is our life support system on which we & our economy depend. My Commitment is to living more lightly & less violently in the food, products & energy we consume to help maintain & sustain all the good things we now enjoy.
Ivan ALVREZ Look Up Te Hiku I work in the community and deal with a lot of businesses and owners. I also work with the general public a lot. Doing this I hear what people would like to change about the Far North. There are some good ideas and some not so good. I am also on the committee with the Kaitaia People Centre and on the executive Committee of the Kaitaia RSA. Being on these two boards lets me see Kaitaia and the Far North in two lights, from the perspective of the People Centre I see the lower side that needs help, to the RSA the older side. So doing that means I can see what needs doing to help people out. If elected onto the Community board, I would have some good insights from the community as a whole.
David SENIOR My family and I have lived in the Far North for twenty years, developing a love for it's people and relaxed lifestyle. My wife Phillipa and I have been married for 37 years and have four adult children and one grandchild. I had partial sight at birth but lost it due to an accident at age thirteen. Since moving North, I have become involved in a number of organisations within the disability sector. Through my election onto the Northern Community Board in 2007 I have gained an understanding of some of the wider issues and challenges affecting the Far North District. In turn, I have become an advocate for a stronger sense of social responsibility by the council towards the communities it represents. I would like to continue to represent my community so as to further the positive input I have been able to contribute at a grass roots level.
Yvonne SMITH Since 2010 I have been the Ahipara representative on Te Hiku Community Board, being involved with the Ahipara Community Plan over many months before it was presented to FNDC. It recorded Ahipara residents' direction they wished progress to follow for the next years. In 2012 I was nominated as the Te Hiku Community Board representative on the Te Ahu Trust Board and I was honoured to accept the position. I am a passionate advocate and supporter of the Te Hiku Sports Hub project which we hope will include a heated pool. I am one of the original six members of the Pool Action Group which has grown to include multi-sporting codes and A & P. While at Te Ahu and PakNSave assisting residents with completion of submissions to the Council LTP, in support of a heated pool in Kaitaia, I became aware that support spanned all age groups.
Te Hiku Community Board (Doubtless Bay Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Clara LUGNET Community Board (Doubtless Bay Subdivision) area. I've lived in Doubtless Bay for 13 years and have been actively involved in sports clubs, schools, walking groups, community projects, Doubtless Bay Information Centre and business promotion group. I'm seeking another term as Community Board Member as the first term is the beginning of a journey and there are still many uncompleted projects to be done. The prospect of 'Better Local Government' for the Far North is certainly exciting and challenging and I look forward to be part of the way forward. I believe that working with the community as a collective is the foundation for a stronger district. I'll work together with members of the community for the well-being, health and care for the environment. I ask for support and tolerance from the community as there are many diverse views and solutions for varied needs and wants. Ask what you can do for your community - get involved!
Te Hiku Community Board (Doubtless Bay Subdivision) Electing 1 Member Mike WARD Community Board (Doubtless Bay Subdivision) area. I am also standing for Northland DHB. My wife Nuu and I live in Mangonui. We have one daughter Lela, four sons Matthew, Marc, Luke, and John and a foster son Sasa. I have served on the Board of Trustees at Kaitaia Intermediate School, Kaitaia College, and St Joseph's Parish. I have a BA in Maths, an MA in English, and a Site 2 building licence. I have owned and operated a heavy-construction company, and I have taught woodwork at Kaitaia College, maths at Bay of Islands College, and carpentry for the Building Construction Industry Training Organisation. I am an experienced quantity surveyor and estimator, so I can cost projects and evaluate proposals. Being resolute in seeking optimum cost/productivity to limit waste in government, I will get you the best deals. Please visit for a sample of published letters that express my populist views and my commitment to our district.
CONFIRMED. Paul Muller representative from Kaitaia Aero Club Inc spoke to agenda item 7.8 refers.
