The 2009 Ducks Unlimited Annual Convention will unfold in Denver, Colorado at the Hyatt Regency Denver, located next to the Colorado Convention Center, from May 20 through May 24. This is my personal invitation for you to join us for the festivities as you experience the clean mountain air, breathtaking scenery and the camaraderie of friendships old and new! You ll want to attend our annual meetings and related events, as well as hear updates on the highly successful Wetlands For Tomorrow campaign and reports on Ducks Unlimited s successes since our last convention gathering in Baltimore. As always, we invite you to attend both General Business Sessions Friday and Saturday. Remember the Presidents Luncheon, which will kickoff the Leadership Conference workshops (immediately following lunch) as well as highlight the many wonderful and valuable volunteer leaders of Ducks Unlimited. Last, but certainly not least, be sure to drop by our popular Hospitality Central, where you can visit with old friends and make new ones! All of these and other activities will take place in the Mile High City Denver, Colorado. You will LOVE Denver! Come prepared to experience the outdoors as well as the urban sophistication. Of course, we ve taken a lot of care in selecting some exciting tour options for you, but there s a lot more to do and see. In fact, there s so much to do and see, you might want to extend your stay to take it all in. There are many state parks and scenic areas to see; or you can visit the gold rush mountain towns and ski resorts. If you re a history buff, you ll be interested in the city s rich history dating back to the mid-1800 s. And then there are the neighborhoods, each with their own unique charm, chock-full of boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. There s definitely something for everyone! You ll find the Schedule on the next page, so please take a few moments to review the important registration guidelines to ensure a successful convention experience. We ll be sending you additional information on other activities and events planned for Convention 2009 once your registration is received. Bottled water will be provided on the motor coach. Comfortable walking shoes and a lightweight jacket are recommended. Bus Tour: Experience the magic of the Rocky Mountains! Straddling the Continental Divide, Rocky Mountain National Park is one of the most beautiful spots in the nation and boasts 412 square miles of snow-capped peaks, wildflower meadows, scenic lakes and abundant wildlife. From Denver, you ll travel through the beautiful city of Boulder on the ascent to Estes Park, a delightful mountain resort village filled with restaurants, gift shops and the home of the famous Stanley Hotel, the inspiration for Stephen King s novel, The Shining. Downtown Estes Park is considered to be one of Colorado s most unique shopping malls! Depart the bus for a few hours of on-yourown shopping and dining. At an elevation of only 9,475 feet, Bear Lake is one of the few subalpine lakes in Rocky Mountain National Park accessible by car. Unless weather conditions permit an earlier opening of the higher elevations of the park, the motor coach will turn around at Many Parks Curve. On the return trip, be on the lookout for the area s wildlife, including marvelous and magnificent mountain bluebirds, Western Tanagers, and red-tailed hawks, as well as elk, big horn sheep and mule deer. You might even catch a glimpse of the park s hidden inhabitants like marmots, beavers, pika and chipmunks. The rare scenic beauty combined with the area s diverse animal population is sure to be an enjoyable adventure. You will enter Rocky Mountain National Park at Beaver Meadows. Once inside the park, be on the lookout for herds of elk grazing on rich grasses in Moraine Park. Be prepared for some magnificent scenery as you travel down Bear Lake Road to Bear Lake, a cool mountain watering hole carved and created by glaciers long ago.

Bottled water will be provided on the motor coach and a box lunch will be provided upon boarding the cog railway. Comfortable walking shoes and a lightweight jacket are recommended. Bus Tour: Upon your departure from Denver, this tour will take you on a trek to Pikes Peak. The massive peak dominates the views in Colorado Springs and sets a dramatic backdrop for the city. Sit back and enjoy the scenic views and natural beauty of this spectacular peak on a safe and comfortable cog railway that winds to the summit of the mountain. The train is the highest cog railway system in the world! Open since 1891, the train winds past waterfalls, as well as aspen and pine forests. At the summit, you will have about 30 minutes to celebrate the spectacular views from 14,110 feet above sea level. From Pikes Peak, travel through Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs before heading to Garden of the Gods Park, offering spectacular red rock formations at the foot of snow-capped Pikes Peak. In this 1,300-acre park, you will learn how the red rock formations were geologically created as well as the history of Native American involvement. The tour will conclude with a visit to the US Air Force Academy, the most visited man-made attraction in Colorado. Ever wonder about the life of a military cadet? Wonder no more. This excursion will teach you about cadet lifestyles and military education and responsibilities. Highlights of the stop will include tours of the Cadet Field House; the famous Cadet Chapel; Falcon Stadium, where the Air Force football team competes; and the Visitors Center, where guests can watch a short, informative film on the Air Force Academy. Please Note: Photo identification is required upon entering the Air Force Academy and backpacks or large bags are not allowed in the Visitors Center or the Cadet Chapel.

One Waterfowl Way Memphis, TN The road leading to the top of the peak of Mount Evans (14,260 feet) is the highest paved road in North America and is maintained and operated by Denver City Parks Department. Katharine Lee Bates wrote the words to America the Beautiful in 1893 while on top of nearby Pikes Peak. 3. Fax: Submit Registration Form and Banquet Seating Request with credit card information. Central City, located about 45 minutes west of Denver, is known as the Richest Square Mile on Earth due to the half billion dollars of gold mined there. Denver City Parks Department grows 240,000 flowers each year in its own greenhouse and plants them in 506 flowerbeds throughout the city. That s over seven acres of flowers. If laid out end to end, they would stretch for 56 miles.
