3 Thank you from the President Thank you for being a part of the Sydney Royal Competitions at the 2018 Sydney Royal Easter Show. Your involvement continues a tradition that has developed over almost two hundred years, of rewarding agricultural excellence and helping to set the industry benchmarks by which agricultural produce is judged. Today, the Sydney Royal competitions held at the Show consist of more than 5,000 classes and attract close to 30,000 entries each year from passionate and skilled people across the country. Your support of our Competition program also plays an important role in assisting the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) to educate and increase awareness about the importance of our agricultural industries. Our Competitions highlight excellence in rural produce and the passion of so many talented producers across NSW and interstate each year. The calibre of entries across a range of diverse classes grows stronger every year. Winning a prestigious Sydney Royal award not only is a reward for hard work and dedication, it can also bring numerous commercial benefits, enabling our rural communities to remain strong and vibrant. Major award winners at the Show have the benefit of using Sydney Royal artwork to promote their success to customers and consumers Sydney Royal Cattle Show The feature breed will be Hereford with judging on Saturday 24 March. ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition State and National Finals and Purebred Steer Auction are on Friday 23 March in the Amphitheatre. Beef Championships including Breeder s Group Interbreed, Supreme Interbreed Heifer, and Urquhart and Hordern Trophies, will be on Monday 26 March. Dairy Interbreed judging is on Tuesday 3 April. The RAS has a solid reputation for impartial judging standards, quality and distinction. Our competitions are scrutinised every year to ensure they remain relevant, abide by industry standards and are up-to-date with changing trends. Please do give us your feedback; we value the strong links we have with agricultural producers. Thank you to our judges whose continual dedication and commitment to excellence ensures the superiority of the Sydney Royal Competitions and builds on our solid reputation. Special thanks must also go to our Councillors, Committees, Breed Societies, sponsors and all of our supporters. On behalf of the RAS, I hope you enjoyed your Sydney Royal experience and I encourage you to join in the tradition of entering every year. I hope to see the winners of this year s Competitions go on towards greater things as a result of their Sydney Royal success. Robert Ryan OAM President, Royal Agricultural Society of NSW

His judging career over the last 8 years has included appointments such as Casino Beef Week, Brisbane Royal and Wingham Beef Week. Chris is honoured to be judging this year, having visited and competed as a boy in the paraders competitions and showing steers at the Sydney Royal, this is where his bug for the livestock industry began. He is also involved with the family owned commercial and seed stock cattle operation located in the Northern Tablelands, NSW. Recently, Jason has judged live cattle at shows in Armidale and Glen Innes and carcase competitions at Dungog-Gresford and at the Colin Say & Co. Steer Extravaganza. He has also judged at Sydney Royal Show on seven occasions. In 2016 and 2017, he judged the Merriwa Show and Northern Schools carcase competition.
