HI Webmaster: Beth Hoban Newsletter: JB Brown President s Message Jan Reischel Aloha Sunsetters, I would like to thank all of you who attended the Members Forum last week. We had a great turnout which allowed us to test the tented area of the yacht club for our meetings. Unfortunately we found that this will not be an acceptable location on a regular basis. The other option given us by the yacht club is to move our meetings to Monday night when we would be guaranteed the use of the dining room. Based on a vote by the members, this is the preference until the construction gets underway at WYC later this year and we can make other arrangements for our meetings. If our conversation with the Yacht Club goes well this week, the first Monday meeting will be on February 3, 2014 and there will be no meeting next week. Additionally, at our recent Board meeting, we approved funding of $3,000 for future Presidents of the Rotary Club of Honolulu Sunset to attend the International Convention at the close of their Rotary Year. Next year the convention will be in Brazil and the following year in Seoul, Korea. Keep this in mind when considering whether or not to step up as a future president. The Team Sunset program came to a close at the end of the year and the winning team was Team Jane. Jane Ferreira and her team members were all given gift certificates as a thank you for a job well done. Lastly, Paul Jurcsak will be launching a membership drive in February and March so please be sure to return the member questionnaire and think about who you know that would like to join the world of Rotary. 2 COMMUNITY Palolo District Park Palolo District "Face Lift and Wrinkle Repair" Day January 25 8AM This upcoming weekend Honolulu Sunsetters and HIT partner for Palolo Park will be gearing up to get to work! Here's WHAT WE WILL DO on Saturday, Jan. 25: The goal is volunteers. Touch up paint walls of gym (exterior) and around the courts Pick up trash Re-grip rackets Receive, sort, fold and organize into containers donated tennis apparel Clean tennis storage room Retread shoes Patch nets with tie wraps and rope Handle food set up and break down for breakfast (continental and coffee) and lunch (sandwiches, chips, juice, water) Also a reminder for tennis playing Sunsetters to bag and tag their own gently used tennis gear and apparel for drop off on the same Saturday. Food: Light breakfast provided from 8:00-8:25 am, and lunch at noon Location: Palolo District Park Tennis Courts (back side of gym) MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!! This position needs to be filled prior to February 1. I strongly encourage you to discuss this position with Glen. The future of our club depends on the strength of the members and their willingness to participate. Additionally, the Board has voted to budget $3,000 available to the President to attend the International Convention (starting in the term). Glen s will be able to go to the Brazilian International Convention at the end of his Presidency (2015) and his President Elect will be able to go to the Korean International Convention in 2016.
