3 RECAP OF THE WEEK Regular Lunch Meeting 8 th November 2017 Time flies and in a blink of an eye, we are already at our 17 th Luncheon Meeting of the Rotary Year 2017 / At our usual meeting venue of Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the meeting was convened was none other than new member Fabien Boegershausen and attended by 24 Rotarians. We had a total of 11 guests and 2 visiting Rotarians in the form of Chuay Hoyen of Taipei Nankong and Michael Hegelbach of Calvia Int. Spain. 3

6 Clean Water Project Recce Trip to Orang Asli Village in Janda Baik 2 nd November 2017 Led by PP Dato' Chan Kam Fatt, a contingent from our Club comprised of PP Rahim and PP Mahen together with CP Thana from RC Lake Gardens embarked on a recce trip to an orang ASLI village located at Janda Baik on 2 nd November The purpose of the trip was to scout the location s suitability for a Clean Water project to be carried out. The prime reason this village was chosen was due to poor excess to clean water for nearly 70 families, the nearest water point being around 1/2 a kilometre away. 6

Upon arrival at the site, we met up with Dr Teh from Global Peace Foundation, who was also on a recce trip there for

Dr Teh who had visited the site previously on several occasions enlightened us with details of the project and also shared with us with the project report and projected budget for this project. It's estimated that the total project cost to be around the region of RM 40, Both Global Peace Foundation and RC Lake Gardens have indicated that there is a high possibility that they could raise / secure RM 10k each for this project. More studies and deliberation would of course have to be done for the next stages of this project. At this point, it looks optimistic. The special committee formed for this project would have to deliberate and come up with the next possible steps to take. 7

JOINT-PROJECT TO BRING 250 KIDS TO WATCH STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Star Wars: The Last Jedi is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of this year.

12 JOINT-PROJECT TO BRING 250 KIDS TO WATCH STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Star Wars: The Last Jedi is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies of this year. That's why our Club, together with Rotary Club Bukit Kiara Sunrise and partners in service Rotaract Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise and Interact Club of SMK Seri Hartamas, will be jointly organising a project that will bring joy, and the Force, to approx 250 orphans from selected children's homes. The project is currently in its planning and implementation stage, and has a very simple objective: to treat 250 orphans to a dinner cum viewing of Star Wars The Last Jedi at MM Cineplex, e@curve on 19th December 2017 at 8pm. 12

13 Our small contribution towards KeepAble Cancer Community Last year our Club donated RM10,000 to Keep Able Cancer Society. Today they had a small open day in conjunction with International Visitor Day. Our money went towards a counseling bay by the garden for patients to sit and enjoy the open. Gives us great joy to know that sometimes the little gestures goes a long way. 13

14 Tree Planting Event under MyRTree Committee & The Kuala Lumpur Rotary Charity Foundation Greetings from the My R Tree project committee of the Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja and The Kuala Lumpur Rotary Charity Foundation. The committee would like to cordially invite Rotarians to our tree planting event. We are organizing a grand tree planting ceremony for My R Tree project with Majlis Perbandaran Selayang at the Puteri Central Park, Bandar Tasik Puteri in Rawang. This event will consist of planting trees in Puteri Central Park in response to fulfilling the Rotary International President s call on environmental initiatives in 2017 for tree planting until Earth Day on 22nd April 2018 at 8 am. Our event will be held on 25th November 2017 from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm during which 500 trees will be planted. The president of Majlis Perbandaran Selayang, state Exco member for environment Puan Elizabeth Wong, and most importantly, DYMM Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatasha binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah will be present. The event will be attended by 1500 people from universities, Standard Chartered Bank, MPS and other nearby residents association. We encourage Rotary clubs to join us because by doing so, you will be fulfilling the environmental initiatives promoted through the Presidential Citation. However, you need to sponsor at least some trees at RM 180 per tree. We will leave it to the Rotary clubs to tell us the numbers of trees they wish to sponsor to meet the Presidential Citation. Your club s name will be prominently displayed and for every RM1000 donation, a tree will be named after your club. In conjunction with the launching of the tree planting project, there will also be a postage stamp and souvenir cover project, which will be launched at a separate event. 14
