The Bell 407GX will provide inter-facility transports and respond to scenes for patients needing air medical transports. The aircraft will be available 24/7, according to a statement from CareFlite. CareFlite President and CEO James C. Swartz said the company is looking forward to opening the new base later this month. CareFlite has served Gainesville and Cooke County since its founding in 1979, Swartz said. The basing of a helicopter at NTMC is the next logical step in CareFlite s commitment to serve North Texas communities including Cooke County. 2 CareFlite replaced its helicopter fleet with Bell 407GXs and Bell 429s over the last four years at a cost of $35 million. The oldest joint use air medical program in the United States, CareFlite now operates the youngest helicopter EMS fleet in the country. Like all CareFlite aircraft, the Gainesville based Bell 407GX will be staffed with a flight nurse, flight paramedic and an air transport pilot. Cooke County is excited about CareFlite s announcement that it will base a helicopter in Gainesville, said Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley. This will undoubtedly help decrease response times and better serve the emergency medical needs our citizens. I want to thank CareFlite for their continued commitment to Cooke County. Approximately eight new jobs will be created at the new base and additional economic activity will take place including the purchase of fuel and services from the Gainesville Airport. It is great to hear that CareFlite is going to have a fixed location here in Cooke County, said Gainesville Mayor Jim Goldsworthy. Established in 1979, CareFlite is the oldest joint use air medical transportation service in the nation. It is the only, fully-integrated medical transport company serving North Texas. It operates the only air medical helicopters based in Dallas County and in Fort Worth. CareFlite s helicopter EMS responds to requests from hospitals, fire departments, EMS agencies and law enforcement within a service area of more than 100 counties in a 150-mile radius of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex containing more than 5.8 million people. CareFlite currently has the youngest Helicopter EMS fleet in the country consisting of two new, state of the art twin engine Bell 429 helicopters and five Bell 407GX helicopters. CareFlite also operates fixed wing air ambulance within a 500 mile radius of the DFW Airport. More than 365,000 people in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma are Members of CareFlite.
