In August, CareFlite transported its one millionth patient since its founding on Oct. 1, 1979 with one Bell helicopter. The photo above was taken at the McCampbell Porter Airfield outside Port Aransas, Texas. This crew is linked with a mobile medical unit that is set up as a self-sustaining field hospital. Excerpts from an from the front lines of recovery efforts along the Texas coast: You would all be very proud of the work they are doing and the manner in which they are representing the values that make the CareFlite family the best! Our crews have been tasked with evacuating from various hospitals across South Texas, and for the past 48 hours have been running for the city of Ingleside as their system is completely overwhelmed. I have been told some of our very own CF crew members have been called up with their military units to assist with the response effort. I greatly appreciate all of you that are supporting this response by being able and willing to sacrifice additional time away from your family to work the extra shifts and hours that it takes to continue our commitment to our patients, our communities and our Sponsor Hospitals in North Texas. It is heartwarming to see the response to our state from places as far away as Utah, California, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Indiana, Missouri, Tennessee, Alabama, and Massachusetts that have all responded with their specialized task force units and specialty equipment. The full circle of sacrifice you are all making is truly tremendous and humbling. You guys are awesome! 6 CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC CLASS HELD AT CAREFLITE CareFlite s second and final Critical Care Paramedic class of 2017 was held from August 6 th through August 20 th at the Mabee EMS Training Center in Grand Prairie. The class meets daily for 14 days when the final examination is administered. Considered one of the finest courses of its type, CareFlite offers this education under the authority of the University of Maryland Baltimore County. The class is also offered annually on a shift schedule. Dr. Robert Simonson, CareFlite s Medical Director, giving a lecture on the first day of the course. The class attracted 19 students total from Arizona, California, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas. More information about CareFlite s Education offerings can be found on

7 WE VE BEEN WORKING ON THE RAILROAD PREPARING FOR UPCOMING OPEN HOUSES October 1, December 2 & 9, 2017, Noon til 4pm Photo Courtesy of Sheldon Cohen CareFlite s model railroad will be open to the public free of charge on Sunday October 9 th and Saturdays December 2 nd and 9 th. Hours for all open houses are Noon til 4pm. Air and ground ambulances will also be on display. The railroad is located in the Mabee EMS Training Center at the Grand Prairie Airport. The layout is a traditional O gauge Christmas layout with seven trains, three streetcars, three flying aircraft and three Christmas trees (up to 12 feet tall). The Polar Express runs from Dallas to the North Pole via Grand Prairie, Fort Worth and Cleburne. The railroad is 40 x 20 feet. A limited number of DFW & NP boxcars (pictured above) are available for purchase. (Note the helicopter and ground ambulance on the train for delivery to CareFlite.)
