What is GA? - GA Definitions are ambiguous: The British Business and General Aviation Association: All aeroplane and helicopter flying except that performed by the major airlines and the Armed Services UK General Aviation Awareness Council (GAAC): All Civil Aviation operations other than scheduled air services and non-scheduled air transport operations for remuneration or hire Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Germany: General Aviation is all civilian flying except for Scheduled Passenger and Cargo Airlines (OR: It s Individual Air Traffic, just like driving a vehicle on the streets for most different nonscheduled purposes) 2 HONEYWELL Proprietary

ANTARES WP 33xxx Scope In the scope - GA UT prototype development Laboratory bench-top prototype to be used for verification of the ANTARES protocol in laboratory conditions - GA UT product specification How should the future UT product look like to be acceptable for GA (taking into account overall avionic architecture) 6 HONEYWELL Proprietary

ANTARES WP 33xxx key issues - What services are actually attractive for GA users? Not all ATC (Air Traffic Control) and AOC (Aeronautical Operational Control) services foreseen in SESAR (COCR v2.0 document) are meaningful for all types of GA aircraft. Many GA users fly just for fun and with very limited budget. Any change implying new complex rules and new costly avionic will be hardly acceptable. To procure the system in GA a subset of services needs to be defined, that will be easily understandable and attractive for the GA users. - How will the future Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts impact regulations applicable to GA? Nowadays all IFR aircraft need to support ATC voice communication. Future ATM assumes divergence from voice communication towards data exchanges. This could imply necessity of data radio equipage for all IFR aircraft including GA. This would need to be supported by new mandate. This potential new mandate would have to be carefully considered to not kill the private GA as we know it. 7 HONEYWELL Proprietary

ANTARES WP 33xxx key issues - How should the future UT look like to be technically acceptable for GA aircraft? Especially for small private GA cost is extremely critical. The price of simplest ANTARES UT for the lowest GA categories should be comparable to existing radios (VHF). Simple antenna, simple Human Machine Interface (HMI), limited functionality, low transmit power etc. More or less for all types of aircraft (but most for the smallest ones), space and weight is another critical constrain. Simple antenna, small transmit power (small power amplifier) Integrated solution with other avionic functionality Possible replacement of other radios? To allow integration of ANTARES UT in existing aircraft, the UT shall be compatible with existing avionic architectures. Standardized form factor, interfaces, functionality etc. There is not going to be a single solution that will cover all requirements. 8 HONEYWELL Proprietary

GA UT long way to go 2010 Q Legislative updates (who and where needs to equip?) ANTARES B1 (UT high level definition, Prototype platform setup) ANTARES B2 (prototype development, lab tests, product specification, costing etc.) Iris Phase C / D (flight worthy prototypes, system deployment, flight tests etc.) SESAR (services, rules, procedures, avionic architecture, complementary technologies etc.) Avionic standardization (EUROCAE, ICAO) System certification (service providers, EASA) Avionic production (industry) 9 HONEYWELL Proprietary

WP Czech Consortium Honeywell - Project leader and coordinator - Main technical contribution to prototype development (platform selection, protocol implementation etc.) - Investigation of larger GA aircraft requirements TL Elektronic ( - Investigation of small general aviation aircraft requirements - PC Control Application development - Support to embedded SH / HW design and development (drivers, power supply etc.) - Analysis of packaging options and prototype package design - Avionics interfaces module design RFspin ( - Antenna and RF design RDM - Standardization, certification and quality management consultancy 10 HONEYWELL Proprietary
