Sports Complex Subcommittee Recommendation Report Brad Chaney Subcommittee Chair March 17, 2009
Subcommittee Background Subcommittee created by the Board August 6, Members include Brad Chaney ( Park Committee), Christi Tamsen (Cedarburg High School), Jeff Gylland (Cedarburg Baseball), Mark Schwantes (Cedarburg Soccer), Steve Schuette (Buckskin Bowmen), Dick Larson (Monticello Sno-mobile Club), and Pete Pavalko (former Park Committee member). Purpose is to discuss land use and facility needs and develop a recommendation.
Sports Complex Quick Facts Prochnow landfill property consists of 95 acres of woodlands, open farmland, and wetlands. Only about 7 of the 95 acres are landfill. Residential and commercial garbage was disposed of at the landfill between 1941 and 1972; now closed for over 35 years. Proposed sports complex would make it the second largest park of its kind in Ozaukee County and one of the ten largest of its kind in all of Southeastern Wisconsin. Title to the land is currently held in the Estate of Marvin Prochnow, but can be transferred to a new owner with the consent of the four Principal Responsible Parties.
Landfill Area - Spring 2008
Farmland Area Spring 2008
New Facilities Needed Now! The need is real. Field ratings by the City of Cedarburg, Cedarburg Soccer and Cedarburg Baseball reveal that the existing fields in the area are inadequate because: Not enough fields for current and future needs Many fields are not regulation size And in some cases, fields are not safe The Result: Many kids are turned away over 100 for 09 baseball season. Those that can play don t get adequate instruction and practice time. Zeunert Park - North
Recommendation Summary Important to balance active and passive recreation opportunities (i.e. trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, pond) Important to locate park amenities into the existing terrain to maintain natural beauty of the property If feasible, locate parking on top of landfill to maximize recreation areas

P avillio n One pavillion that would be used for events and as the hub for the Bicycle trail network. Archery Range Includes a private area for Buckskin Bowmen and separate p ublic area.
