5 Description: Grant's Trail is a biking and walking trail in St. Louis County, Missouri that begins at Orlando Gardens near Union Ave and I-55 and runs northwest to Holmes Ave and I-44 in Kirkwood. The trail is 8.25 miles and is part of the Gravois Greenway. The trail was once a railroad line for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Grant s Trail is a key component in the Great Rivers Greenway effort to link with the Meramec Greenway Trails and the River Des Peres trail system. St. Louis County currently maintains approximately 6 miles of the trail, starting at Orlando Gardens to the City Limits of Crestwood as part of an agreement with Great Rivers Greenway. Typical Trail area. Naturalized Trail area with interpretive signage. Site Observation Summary: Grant's Trail is a tremendous regional asset. It is heavily used at almost all times of the day. TrailNet building is an underutilized asset. Consider a new use with TrailNet as a partner. St. Louis County maintains six miles from Orlando Gardens to Pardee Road. Maintenance is typically mowing 6 feet of trail edge on both sides. In some locations this varies and includes entire 50 foot width. Bicycle BMX course (vicinity of Friar Tuck Lane) exists off the trail on land owned by MSD, and is popular. St. Louis Bicycle Club is the sponsoring organization. Recently re-decked main bridge. Typical trail amenities. Page 5
6 Photos of existing conditions Consider replacement of jersey barrier with a more visually compatible treatment. Trail at Ulysses S. Grant Historical Site. Comfort Station along trail. Lack of buffer between trail and Tesshire Trailhead. Typical treatment at road crossing. Underutilized Trailnet building. Page 6
