From the moment campers arrive each day, counselors guide them through traditional camp experiences including hiking, nature study, swimming, group games, and arts and crafts. They have opportunities to sing songs, tell stories, and meet new friends. All activities are geared to show your preschool camper the wonders of nature. Wee Backpackers is carried out in small groups under the watchful eye of counselors trained to meet the needs of young campers. The Wee Backpacker program maintains a low staff to child ratio. SUMMER EXTRAVAGANZA Ages 4 years to those entering grade 8 in fall, 2018 Non-Member Program Participant: $235/week Week of August 27 This is the last chance to enjoy the great outdoors at camp before summer ends! We ve combined all of our camp s highlights into an incredible jam-packed session. Games, canoeing, swimming are all part of the fun. Young Buccaneers learn the swashbuckling lingo of pirates, play games like Capture the Pirate Flag, try their balancing skills as they walk the plank, go on treasure hunts and a whole lot more! SUPER HERO CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 25, July 9, July 23 and August 6 BAM! POW! KAZAM! Kids think, dress, and act like superheroes! Kids bring their own superhero costume or make one at camp. Suiting up as their favorite superhero each day, they ll explore their own super powers. Activities include super games, super crafts and super fun. Where else can kids spend the day as their alter-ego superhero, meet other superheroes and save the world? 4 ARTS AND IMAGINATION CULTURE AND DISCOVERY DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CAMP Weeks of June 11, June 25, July 16, August 6 and August 13 Campers will learn the basics of digital photography and be able to experiment with both portrait and landscape photography. Each day will be a different theme from the viewpoint of an ant, or include a tree as a subject. Participants must bring a digital camera. No phones please. ARTS AND CRAFTS CAMP Weeks of June 18, June 25, July 16, July 30 and August 13 Campers discover their artistic side and let their imaginations soar. Kids create a variety of projects that may include: sketching, watercolors or paints, nature collages, picture frames, necklaces and bracelets, and much more. Campers create masterpieces to take home and enjoy! FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR ALL PROGRAMS SPANISH CAMP Weeks of June 25, July 16, July 30 and August 6 This program is designed for campers currently speaking Spanish. All instruction and programming is conducted in Spanish. Campers explorer hiking through wooded trails, studying the wonders of nature, canoeing along lakeshores, and conquering many challenges under the leadership of well-trained staff. Exciting activities include archery, swimming, nature studies, canoeing, fort building, gaga ball, camp crafts, cookouts and group games! NEW! READERS THEATER CAMP Weeks of June 18, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Campers perform without the need for props, costumes, or a set! Instead of acting out literature as in a play, the performer s goal is to read a script aloud effectively, enabling the audience to visualize the action. Performers bring the text alive by using voice, facial expressions, and gestures giving campers essential practice in oral reading fluency and public speaking. 10

5 NATURE AND SCIENCE FISH, FROGS AND FORTS CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 11, June 18, June 25, July 16, July 30 and August 13 Filled with exploration and environmental education, we ll focus on fort building and discovery of insects, fish and frogs. Campers learn basic fishing skills while practicing the catch-and-release method. Bait and fishing equipment is provided at camp but you may bring your own. SCIENCE EXPLORER CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 18, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Campers take off into a world of exploration through hands-on experiments to learn essential concepts applied towards a variety of eruptions, engineering experiments and much more. At each YMCA Specialty Camp, day campers spend approximately two hours of each day in their specialized activity. The remainder of the day is spent enjoying Traditional Camp activities. OUTDOOR LIVING SKILLS CAMP Weeks of June 18, July 23 and August 6 Kids develop their outdoor living skills in this exciting, hands-on specialty camp! Campers discover the finer points of preparing for a big outdoor adventure. Participants will learn a variety of useful camping skills that may include building a fire, making camp shelters, knot tying, campfire cooking and more! NEW! FULL STEAM AHEAD CAMP Weeks of June 11, June 25, July 16, July 30 and August 13 This camp is perfect for our young scholars who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. Campers will spend the week engaged in hands on, interactive projects. We will figure out how things work and why it s important. Activities may include Legos, robotics, science experiments, plus more! There will be lots of learning, using their imaginations, and exploring the indoors and outdoors at camp! 11

6 WATER EXPLORATION WEE BACKPACKERS WATER SAFETY Ages 4 & 5 years old, including campers entering Kindergarten in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $225/week Non-Member Program Participant: $250/week Weeks of June 18, June 25, July 9, July 23 and August 6 All of the wonderful outdoor adventures in the Wee Backpacker program plus water safety lessons! Each day Wee Bees will have a 40-minute progressive water safety lesson at the Camp Manitou outdoor pool. Little swimmers will also have time to play in our splash deck. The remainder of the day will be spent enjoying traditional camp activities. WATER ADVENTURE CAMP Member Participants: $210 Non-Member Program Participants: $235 Weeks of June 11, June 18, July 16, July 30, August 13 and August 20 The hottest way for kids to cool off this summer! Campers spend the full week enjoying an awesome array of water activities including canoeing, kayaking, swimming and other water activities. 12 STAND UP PADDLEBOARD CAMP Weeks of June 25, July 9, July 23 and August 6 Campers learn the fast-growing, life-long sport of Stand Up Paddleboarding. It s a fun and easy way to play on the water. Kids learn basic paddling (forward, turning, stopping), how to stand up on a board, lift and carry their board, and how to launch and land it. 7 OUTDOOR SPORTS ARCHERY/SLINGSHOT CAMP Entering grades 1 3 in fall, 2018 Weeks of June 11, June 18, July 16, July 30 and August 13 Two amazing and traditional target sports, the bow and arrow and the slingshot, are very popular today. Participants will gain understanding and learn to properly use them both safely. Campers will learn to make and use their own targets, learn about different types of bows, and the basics of aiming and target shooting. ARCHERY CAMP Weeks of June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 While learning the fundamentals of archery, campers examine equipment close up, identify the parts of the bow and arrow, and learn the science behind drawing the bow and releasing the arrow. Instructors teach proper grip, stance and aim alignment. Equipment is provided. FISHING CAMP Weeks of June 11, June 18, July 9, July 23 and August 6 Kids get hooked on fishing as they learn basic fishing skills. Lakes provide the scene for fishing fun using the catchand-release method. Campers can bring their own pole and tackle, or equipment will be provided. 8 OUTDOOR SPORTS CHALLENGE CAMP Entering Grades 4 6 in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $225/week Non-Member Program Participants: $250/week Weeks of: June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Campers strike out on a bold adventure as they test their strength, strategy, and skill against our climbing wall. Climbers learn about basic climbing, belay techniques, knot tying and climbing safety. Fun team challenge initiatives will aid in a successful climb. CHALLENGE QUEST CAMP Entering Grades 4 6 in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $240/week Non-Member Program Participants: $265/week Weeks of: June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6 and August 20 Taste our three exciting specialty camps in one week! Challenge Quest campers will experience the Adventure Hunt, an outdoor scavenger hunt. The challenge continues on the Bertram Chain of Lakes as you learn the skills and tackle paddleboards, canoes and kayaks. Our High Ropes Course rounds out the thrill-filled week as campers learn to scale the lower level of the course. Designed for campers who are ready to meet new challenges and have fun! Archery games will help you discover the science behind drawing and releasing the bow. Instructors will show you proper grip, stance and aim alignment. Equipment will be provided. A Thursday overnight adventure on one of our lakes is the highlight of your week. You will learn and develop the necessary camp skills needed to lead camper activities, as well as group responsibility through activity planning. You will have opportunities to shadow counselors and assist staff in camp activities. There will be plenty of time to hang out with friends new and old. Come experience camp from a whole new perspective! Gain new skills and selfconfidence every day through a variety of climbing activities. Leadership training will include in-water skills specific to lifeguarding, safety training and team building. You will shadow lifeguard mentors and participate as a junior team member. This program focuses on leadership and building confidence while preparing you for aquatic certification classes. You will have an opportunity to practice skills while assisting and working with experienced lifeguards in the pool and at the lake. There will be plenty of time for traditional camp activities. 17 CAMP LEADERSHIP CORPS Entering grades 9 10 in fall, 2018 Member Participants: $300/three-weeks Non-Member Program Participants: $325/three-weeks Three-week Session: Weeks of June 11 29, July 23 August 10, and August Grow as a leader as you help counselors facilitate camp programs. CLC is designed to build community and provide mentoring and character development. Skills learned are transferrable to camp and non-camp jobs. 12 PEAK ADVENTURE CAMP Entering grades 7 9 in fall, 2018 Offered: Various dates on 3 day-sessions listed below. Discover camp s wild side! Participants enjoy 2 nights and 3 days of the great outdoors during Peak Adventure Camp. These camps promise unlimited fun. Sign up for one or all four. Participants will ride in a 15 passenger van departing from the Southdale YMCA in Edina. Packing list will be available online or call the Customer Service Center at WISCONSIN DELLS OUTDOOR ADVENTURE Offered June and July 31 August 2 (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session Fully experience the great outdoors. Tent camp for two nights with us at Devils Lake State Park in Baraboo, WI. On Tuesday we leave Southdale YMCA for Devils Lake State Park. Once camp is set up, the adventures begin! Wednesday is spent at a water park in the WI Dells. We ll explore the park and enjoy group games, hike and end with a blazing campfire and a hearty meal. Join us for this thrilling outdoor adventure! LANESBORO BIKING AND CAVE TOUR Offered July (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session This adventure begins at Mystery Cave State Park near Lanesboro, where we ll set up camp. Then we go underground to an exciting guided cave tour at one of the nation s most unique caves. We ll spend the next day renting bikes and exploring the historic town of Lanesboro and the trails and parks along the Root River. TROLLHAUGEN ZIP LINE & AERIAL ADVENTURE Offered July and August 7 9 (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session This adventure will take you soaring! Beautiful Interstate Park is our campsite for one night. We ll enjoy the park s rolling, wooded hills and the banks of the St. Croix River, and spend a half-day at Trollhaugen Adventures soaring through the Aerial Tour Challenge Course. Then experience a night sleeping at YMCA Camp Icaghowan. We will canoe and participate in camp activities. Truly a memory-making getaway. NORTH SHORE KAYAK & ADVENTURE PARK Offered June and July (3-day session) Member Participants: $355/3-day session Non-Member Program Participants: $380/3-day session The starting point for this North Shore adventure is the spectacular harbor city of Duluth. There are so many fun things to see and do there. We ll spend two nights camping at Spirit Mountain Campground. Our first day adventures include the Spirit Mountain Adventure Park and exploring Gooseberry Falls. On Wednesday we will spend the day on a guided kayak tour to local islands. This is a trip you don t want to miss! For registration assistance contact DAY CAMP A $50 non-refundable deposit is required per camp session. The deposit is applied to the session fee. To receive the member rate, the child must be a member at the time of registration and during participation in the program. SUMMER POWER KINDERGARTEN, SUMMER POWER & UPROAR A $50 one-time, non-refundable registration fee is required per program. You may register for as many weeks as needed. Register online or find forms at ymcamn.org/summer, select the Elk River location, select Summer Paperwork and Schedules. Please review the handbook for important information. ALL PROGRAMS Confirmation will be sent via after registration. You will be billed for the remaining balance, due the week prior to the start of the session. Online registration requires automatic electronic fund transfer (EFT), which will be processed the Tuesday prior to each program session week. Changes to the original registration, including cancellation, must be made in writing by Monday, one week prior to the start of the session. Submit your changes or cancellations through the contact page of our website: ymcamn.org/contact_us. We encourage change notices to be submitted as soon as possible. If the change notice is not received, you will be billed for the original enrollment choices. There are no refunds on registration deposits and/or registration fees. For Day Camp: A $10 change fee is applied to each session, bus or care change that is made.
