4 Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon 2017 South Hummocks Model Aero club is participating in the 10th Annual Fly-A-Thon event: September 30th & October 1st, 2017 Matt Kania s beloved Ringmaster control line model has been built and flown by more modelers than any other control line model aeroplane! This is not a contest! No registration is required. There are no entry fees or prizes! This Fly-A- Thon is to honor the most popular CL model ever!! Be part of something big and help make history by having more worldwide Ringmaster flights in a single weekend than last year's record of 3928 flights! A record 694 different pilots participated!! This event is open to All MAAA members. We have permission from the The Brotherhood of the Ring to fly one week early due to the dates of the Long Weekend. We challenge you to fly with us any of the many varieties of Ringmasters. Location: SHMAC Field Cnr Gulfview Rd and Almond Tree Rd, South Hummocks Any Ringmaster variant can be flown. We will be reporting the number of Ringmaster flights, pilots, different Ringmasters flown and location. If a new pilot gets to solo on a Ringmaster, that first flight will count as 2 flights! *NEW RULE - You must fly at least 5 laps to be able to claim a flight* Let's keep the spirit of C/L alive! Ok everyone! Just dig that old dusty Ringmaster from your shed and come fly it with us! The results will be compiled and published by the Brotherhood of the Ring. NOARLUNGA MODEL AEROSPORT J uly/august weather has been hit and miss, some cracker winters days interspersed with wet and windy days.

We hope that recent fun events and come and try days has helped steer these guys to our great club.

5 NOARLUNGA MODEL AEROSPORT J uly/august weather has been hit and miss, some cracker winters days interspersed with wet and windy days. The Wednesday gourmet club with Head Chef Malcolm Neal s ll seem to enjoy a good lunch despite the weather. Several new members have joined and commenced flying. We hope that recent fun events and come and try days has helped steer these guys to our great club. We welcome our new members Geoff Jones flying an Ares Crusader, Brian Nichol currently building / assembling a Boomerang 40 electric and Kane Charlish has purchased / sourced a second hand Boomerang 60 IC. Sadly Trevor Tomse has had to pull back on his club and flying ac vi es so we need others to step up and get dizzy going round and round on the tractor. We wish him and Lois the best and hope we see him back soon. He leaves a big hole to fill. A wet flying field S ll too early with magazine submission dates to report on how Shaun Jacobsen has done compe ng in the World Pylon Championships in Sweden. Let s hope he has done himself proud. Peter & Sean Reade competed in another Precision Aeroba cs event at Constella on in July in really windy condi ons. At the start of the day it didn t look like the event would even take place. It was a credit to all 10 pilots that fronted that they all took to the air with not a single mishap. The first few flights saw planes disappear into low cloud. Four rounds were flown in all 4 classes. Sean pipped the old man (flying Dad s plane) by barely a few points, which saw them take 1 st and 2 nd respec vely in Sportsman. Both earned a Promo on point and were the only pilots on the day to do so. Peter has now earned 3 points from 3 events and is now off to Advanced. Sean has 2 points from 2 events with one point le to get. The club is addressing noise issues in the area. The commi ee is spending a lot of me and energy ensuring everything is being done to protect our rights to keep flying whilst enjoying a good rela onship with neighbours. It is interes ng visi ng other clubs and sites and seeing that not too many clubs don t have a minority element making work for us all to keep flying. It goes without saying that a sensible approach by members in all clubs in the way planes are flown, will ul mately play a big part in the outcome of these issues. Electric power helps but we don t want that to be the only eventual op on. Our something different for the month is John Coomb s Fugly, built from 2 previous crashed aircra, the tail heavy beast looped and crashed on its first flight. There is an irony in there somewhere. We also hope John Coombe and Fugly Johns hands and fingers are on the mend, remember rota ng propellers damage hands, thanks to the members that jumped in and helped John at the me. 5

11 CORRESPONDANCE OUT CASA -- RAHS Area Approval Whyalla Notification of Control Line event approval CORRESPONDANCE IN BUSINESS ARISING 1. A quote from CASA was received in regard to the Area Approval required for The World Championship Drone Racing at the 2017 Royal Adelaide Show in September. 2. The Department of Recreation & Sport have launched a new website for Sporting Organisations to apply for Aeromodelling Sporting Status. As previously indicated, MASA will be applying for recognition on behalf of all MASA affiliated clubs. 3. A letter of acknowledgement has been received thanking MASA for their support for the two SA competitors who recently took part in the World GPS Glider Champs in Germany. 4. MASA was notified of the sudden passing of the TMAA (Tasmania) President Mr Clive Butler. As president, Clive was an MAAA council member whose contribution to aeromodelling will be sadly missed. MEMBERSHIP Clubs Affiliated with MASA (29) SENIOR 762 JUNIOR 22 Total 784 CATEGORY REPORTS Control line: AAC have a busy Event Calendar planned for the 2 nd half of 2017.The first event is a Classic Stunt compe August 12 th. on at Park 19 on Once the full Calendar has been approved at the August AAC mee ng I will forward it to the Newsle er Editor and RC Chairman for inclusion in the MASA Calendar The Whyalla Show CL will take place on August 19 th and 20 th, hopefully the weather will cooperate as a large number of Victorian entrants are expected. Sport SA have requested a meeting w ith MASA on the 9 th August in regard to the establishment of a Sports Museum in Adelaide. MASA elected not to continue membership with Sport SA but will keep the lines of communication open should any outcomes be beneficial to MASA. World F3D Championships. At the recent F3D w orld Championships in Sw eden the three senior and one Junior member Australian team came out on top. The SA team of Shaun and Jarred Jacobsen despite a crash and some racing setbacks made a commendable performance and were placed 26 out of 45 entrants. 11

12 Newsletter Computer. The N/ L editor highlighted long standing issues w ith the end of life PC used for this purpose. A short discussion took place resulting in the motion that: The N/L editor be authorised to replace the existing standalone PC up to the value of $1500. Motion seconded by Barossa and Carried. Golden Era Racing Budget. The GER subcommittee requested an operating budget of $3000 for the event be approved. It was moved by ORAM seconded by Old Timer that the budget be approved. Motion Carried. MAAA Service Medallion. Constellation member I ain McLeay w as nominated by MASA at the May Council conference for the MAAA service medallion award. Iain and his wife Candy were requested to attend the meeting for the presentation. The president spoke of Iain s achievement s and contribution to aeromodelling in S.A. over the past 25 years. MAAA Club Assistance Scheme. This year $55K w as available from investment interest to allocate to the scheme. The MAAA executive have reviewed this year s applications for assistance and the secretary will be advising the successful applicants in due course. Successful clubs are requested to provide a report back to MAAA on how the funds were spent and the resultant outcome of benefit to the club.
