1 VETTE NEWS Volume 30, Issue 5 May 2011 President s Corner Congratulations to our newest member Ken Kaczica. Ken is also a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) and will be a valuable resource if you have any questions on the originality of C1 to C3 Corvettes. Is this spring weather ever going to get any better? It seems as if it has rained almost every day this month. In comparison last year was one of the driest springs on record Looking over our 2011 Calendar of Events first up is Franklinville on May 1st. With all the spring rain I'm afraid the field where they park the cars will be a swamp. On Tuesday May 10 is the monthly Hamburg Fairground Super Cruise on pavement. Next up is our monthly meeting, and then we will be into the weekly cruise scene. If you have any ideas on different events please let me know. Please make sure at the May meeting to personally thank Diane Skeide who has chaired our hospitality break for beverages and snacks for many years at our monthly meetings. We would appreciate someone stepping forward to take over this position and continue to make the break at the meeting enjoyable for all What s Happening May 1 WNY Maplefest, Franklinville, NY (9 am- 3pm) May 10 Fairgrounds Super Cruise Hamburg, NY - (5pm 9pm) Meet at 4:30pm at entrance May 14 COB Club Meeting Clarence Church 7 pm May Blackthorne Corvette Weekend in the Catskills see Pete Ricigliano May 17 Pautlers Cruise starts Transit Rd. 3 72 Vette Restoration Part III This part of the project will be called Bench work, because of 2 reasons. First is I had a partial Knee replacement, and the frame was sent out to the frame shop to be checked out. After that, it travels to be sand blaster and primed. What bench work means is that I can sit and work at my bench.. The first assy. that I will work on is the Heater Box. I removed the heater core to send to the radiator shop to get checked because there were green stains caused from a leak. The assembly was cleaned washed and disassembled to check the vacuum canisters that operate all the doors that change from heater to defroster when controls are moved on the dash panel. I had to remove 3 broken screws and tape new holes Next it was painted and stored until the fire wall is cleaned and painted. Steering box is next to be cleaned and checked for binding. Most boxes start to leak grease the day they leave the factory and mine was dry as a bone. After removing the top I saw why it was binding and put some 90 weight oil to work it back and forth. I filled it with grease so it wouldn't leak any more. The Headlight assy. is next to be worked on. They were power washed and blown out with air and completely disassembled to check for wear and replace all broken screws. When working on a car 39 years old a lot screws are rusted and break when being removed. My trade as a Tool and Die maker comes in handy for this problem. I found that the vacuum canisters both leaked and needed rebuilding kits. If there are any vacuum leaks, this will affect the carburetor idle and delayed headlight opening. I will send for kits and finish the assembly of the headlights. Last thing was to adjust all the end play to make the car easer to drive and not be all over the road. Give me a call If you would like to see this project, I work on it every Saturday, Pete Ricigliano CORVETTES of BUFFALO pg 3

This effort was undertaken by your SEMA Action Network (SAN) representatives in Washington, D.C. as a means to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. As the date quickly approaches, events, car shows, and cruises are being planned nationwide. How will you recognize the day? Steve McDonald SEMA Action Network. I know the lineage of this car, know the original owner, have all of the original paperwork, and she has been extremely well cared for, with all nice weather miles. Never been abused, or driven hard.
