3 The 2013 Provincial Budget Ensuring the flow of people and goods is vital to a strong economy and the growth of Ontario s communities urban and rural, large and small, northern and southern. The Province is making substantial investments to rehabilitate and improve the provincial highway network, including projects to address bottlenecks and support economic growth. Examples include: Widening key sections of Highway 401 in the GTHA, Highway 417 in Ottawa and Highway 11/17 between Thunder Bay and Nipigon; and, Building the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway in Windsor and extending Highway 407 east through Durham Region to connect with Highway 35/115 in Clarington. The Province plans to move forward with a number for new highway projects, including: improvements to Highway 17 in Renfrew County, to Highway 401 in Waterloo Region and Northumberland County, and to Highway 66 in northeastern Ontario; proceeding with the planned extension of Highway 427 to Major Mackenzie Drive in York region; and, new HOV lanes on sections for Highways 401, 404, 410, and 427 in the GTHA.
4 The 2013 Provincial Budget In addition, new funding would be allocated to ensure rehabilitation of bridges on the provincial highway network continues to be a priority. We are awaiting the approval of the 2013 budget in the Legislature. Once our budget is confirmed we will: Adjust and finalize our overall construction program Continuously monitor the delivery of our program to maximize budget The ministry invests according to its highway investment plans (SHP/NHP) to keep Ontario s highways and bridges in good repair, reduce congestion, improve safety and promote the economy. Visit our website for the latest Southern and Northern Highways programs. The programs are expected this summer.
