Welcome to the beautiful and diverse west coast of Scotland and to Go Days Out 2015 Here you ll find a range of great options to help you discover more of the wonderful islands and peninsulas of the west coast with great day and longer trips and other suggestions for getting the most out of your visit. This year we ve introduced some exciting new options including the chance to travel from the beautiful Isle of Skye to remote St Kilda, the UK s only UNESCO Dual World Heritage Site and National Nature Reserve. On Skye, explore the ancient grandeur of Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland and the ancestral home of the Chiefs of Clan MacLeod for 800 years. Best known for its whisky, Islay has more to offer - explore more of this beautiful island and coastline on a wildlife sea safari boat trip. Head to beautiful Colonsay to explore and visit Colonsay House Gardens. Visit romantic Inveraray Castle and Gardens, home of the chief of the Clan Campbell, located by the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll. From Mull, enjoy a guided wildlife tour and visit the small and charming Mull Aquarium. From Tobermory enjoy a swimming with seals lagoon experience or a day whale watching. 8 The Year of Food and Drink 2015 is the Year of Food and Drink in Scotland and the West Coast boasts an excellent range of high quality local produce including Stornoway Black Pudding, cheeses from Arran, Kintyre and Mull, Argyll Hill Lamb, Wild Argyll Venison and Barra Seafood, as well as delicious chutneys, chocolate, seafood and more, not to mention the great local ales and world renowned whiskies. There are also great places to eat across the West Coast from small cafés to Michelin star restaurants. To celebrate the Year of Food and Drink we ve created some great meal options for you to sample some of the best local produce available when you travel with us. 9 Our commitment to your experience We aim to provide you with an enjoyable passenger experience with excellent food and drink rich in local provenance at its heart. Throughout our network the use of local produce and traceability is crucial to us and we work closely with local suppliers. On larger vessels you ll find our onboard service outlets offering a range of options from freshly cooked meals to light snacks and refreshments. We are proud to be sourcing more route-specific ingredients and products than ever before. Our Mariners menus feature delicacies such as Barra landed Haddock, Salmon from Argyll Smokery in Dunoon, as well as tasty burgers sourced from meat in Argyll. Our famous CalMac n cheese is made using delicious cheese from Lockerbie. Lighter bites onboard include freshly baked cakes from Cobbs Bakery in Loch Ness and freshly made sandwiches from local suppliers. In our bars you ll find island brewed ales and lagers, in addition to local malts and whiskies. We are proud to be the first ferry operator to be awarded the Taste Our Best accreditation by VisitScotland, showing our commitment to using local produce and supporting local suppliers. Taste Our Best is a new quality assurance scheme that ensures you will eat only the best Scottish produce. Look out for the Taste our Best logo on the routes you re travelling. Situated by the shores of Loch Fyne in Argyll, the castle has a fairytale façade with an enchanting interior as well as a beautifully maintained garden and estate grounds with excellent walks. This is a great introduction to the beautiful islands of Arran and Bute as well as the Cowal and Kintyre peninsulas and offers fantastic value as well as a great option for families and friends. Sail on five of our ferries using the five ferry routes listed below, starting at any point on the list. Travel in either direction for a fantastic multi destination mini adventure. Explore different island and peninsula destinations with impressive scenery and views throughout. Available over one to three days, many travellers chose to break their journey with one or two nights stay at one or more destinations along the way or simply enjoy a fun packed day. This is also a great option for cyclists including those looking for a one day challenge against the clock! Regular bus links from Greenock, Glasgow and Ayrshire as well as train connections from west central Scotland are also available. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes and tickets are valid for any of the departure times listed. Returning from Mount Stuart the open top bus does not stop at Mount Stuart but passengers can use their open top bus tour ticket on the local bus service linking Mount Stuart with Rothesay and the ferry terminal at no extra charge. Bute Open Top Bus Tour Depart from Rothesay Family friendly, great introduction to Bute, available as an extra to your main trip booking. Call Wemyss Bay Port Office on (option 2) This is a great introduction to the highlights of Bute. Departing from Guildford Square in Rothesay, your tour passes the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, then Ardbeg point, Port Bannatyne, Kames Castle and the One Man Burial Ground before continuing to Ettrick Bay. Following the coast road south we pause at Scalpsie Bay to savour its peace and tranquillity before heading towards Kingarth, Kilchattan Bay and Ascog Bay. Your tour ends at Rothesay Pier with ample time for the ferry back to Wemyss Bay*. A full English commentary is provided and the tour lasts approximately one and a half hours. Bus links from Glasgow, Campbeltown and Oban are available. Achamore Gardens Depart from Tayinloan Award winning gardens, unusual and champion species, peaceful location, beautiful views. Call Kennacraig Port Office on (option 2) Visit the 4 star award winning Achamore Gardens on the beautiful island of Gigha, just 20 minutes crossing from the village of Tayinloan on the Kintyre peninsula. There are 54 acres of delightful gardens set in mature and varied natural woodland as well as 2 acres of walled gardens with many unusual and champion species. The gardens are home to an impressive collection of rare rhododendron that thrive in the frost free climate. Enjoy beautiful views west across to the islands of Islay and Jura. 21 Days Out from Kennacraig Kennacraig is the departure port for travel to Islay and to Colonsay. From Islay a local ferry connection is available to the neighbouring island of Jura. Jura is home to the triple peaks of the Paps of Jura, attracting hillwalkers and nature lovers, as well as Jura Distillery and the annual music festival and is home to thousands of red deer who hugely outnumber local residents. Days out from Kennacraig Taste of Islay Lunch Cruise Depart from Kennacraig Fresh local produce, stunning views, short stop on Islay. Call Kennacraig Port Office on (option 2) Enjoy some of Scotland s stunning west coast views on this relaxing lunch cruise and introduction to the beautiful island of Islay, the Queen of the Hebrides. Sail down West Loch Tarbert and through the Sound of Islay between the islands of Islay and Jura to arrive at Pork Askaig. Enjoy great views and a freshly prepared meal and hot drink from our Mariners café. If you re not driving, sample a local whisky or ale to accompany your meal. During this trip you ll explore the coastline of the island and have the opportunity to enjoy some of the great local bird and sea life as well as well as Islay s special area of conservation, only viewable from the sea. Starting from Port Ellen pontoons, you ll travel along the beautiful coast of Islay to see the seals with their pups in the summer months. Other animals that may be spotted here include otters, basking sharks and perhaps the rare white tailed sea eagles which often visit Islay from their home in Mull. Your trip finishes at Ardbeg Distillery where it s a pleasant walk back to the ferry terminal.
