3 Life in Bournemouth Bournemouth is a well-known tourist destination situated on the south coast of England, less than 2 hours from London. It attracts visitors from around the UK and beyond, and is famous for its 12km of sandy beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, and cosmopolitan environment. Bournemouth is a busy and thriving town, large enough to have all the facilities of a big town but small enough that you never feel lost. Experience Bournemouth History Learn about the town s culture at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum an amazing mix of treasures from around the world including famous paintings and historical artefacts. Nature Take a relaxing walk through Bournemouth s beautiful gardens, including Alum Chine s tropical gardens by the sea. Shopping Explore a variety of shops in the town centre or visit Castlepoint shopping park, just a few miles away. Music See some of the world s biggest talents perform at the Bournemouth International Centre or enjoy outstanding musical shows at the Pavilion Theatre. Sport International College students have access to SportBU, located on the Talbot Campus. There are direct trains to London, as well as to many locations all around the UK. Ferries: fast services run from nearby Poole, Weymouth, Portsmouth and Southampton. Visit places such as Jersey, Guernsey, and even northern coastal towns in France. Taxis: although they are more expensive than public transport, taxis can be convenient for shorter journeys. Airport: regional and long-haul flights from Bournemouth and Southampton Airports take you to many exciting destinations in Europe and around the world. 4 Your new home Lansdowne Point offers ultra-modern accommodation, located on-site at Bournemouth University International College. Read below to find out more. Location Central Bournemouth location, close to shops and restaurants, and just 500 metres from Bournemouth train station. Distance to the College The College could not be closer it is part of the same building and only a 1-minute walk away. Accommodation Fantastic modern study bedrooms with private shower rooms, storage space and a shared kitchen. Internet WiFi is available to all students throughout the building. There is also The Compass restaurant, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks and coffees on weekdays, and a delicious brunch at the weekends. In addition, as a college student you can access the ground floor and first floor facilities in the College during the evenings and at weekends. These include the Knowledge Hub, huddle rooms, seminar rooms and two IT suites. Social spaces Students have access to a common room with large TV and stunning views of Bournemouth and the sea. There is also a games room with a video game console, table tennis, snooker table and table football. Cleaning Each kitchen is provided with an initial set of household cleaning products, and a weekly cleaning service of communal areas is included in the accommodation cost. A shared laundry room is located on the ground floor. Security You can feel safe and secure in your new home with on-site security staff and concierge 24/7, round-the-clock security cameras, and secure door entry systems. Conveniently located Lansdowne Point is actually connected to the College and The Compass restaurant. It is also within easy reach of the town centre and close to supermarkets, restaurants and cafés. Well-equipped All bedrooms include a large single bed, study desk, chair, private bathroom and lots of storage. You can prepare your own meals in the kitchen areas, or choose a catered accommodation meal plan and enjoy delicious food and drinks at our fantastic on-site restaurant, The Compass. Multicultural In your new home, you will have the chance to live, meet and make friends with people from all over the world. It is a great chance to learn more about different countries and cultures. Private and clean Relax in your own bedroom with private bathroom, in a flat with modern kitchen facilities. Each kitchen contains an initial set of household cleaning products, and a weekly cleaning service of communal areas is included in the accommodation cost. There is a laundry room on the ground floor for you to wash your clothes. The accommodation is a safe place to live and everything is in perfect condition. This means students will be responsible for cleaning their own rooms and clothes, and cooking their own meals if they choose accommodation without a meal plan. Included benefits All bills (electricity, gas and water) and internet (broadband and WiFi) are included in the accommodation price. You will also receive a free student starter pack containing useful items, basic bedding and cooking equipment (see to the right for more details). I think the new building is very good close to the sea and town centre. There are many great places where you can relax and make new friends, play games and have fun. This creates more free time for you to study, socialise and enjoy Bournemouth. Is a meal plan right for you? While all rooms in Lansdowne Point enable students to cook for themselves, our meal plan packages are perfect if you want the comfort of having freshly cooked, nutritious and varied meals every day during your time at the College. The benefits of choosing a meal plan include: Making new friends and practising your English while eating your meals with other students Great value package fresh and delicious food every day Varied menu including theme nights such as BBQ night and Mexican feast 10% discount on all food and drink prepared in-house Time saved on cooking and washing dishes No need for frequent visits to the supermarket Take-away option available What s included? Our meal package gives you of credit per day, Monday to Friday, for the duration of the College s teaching dates. This is sufficient credit for 3 meals per day, but how you use this credit during the day, is up to you! The package will change for those students who progress to Bournemouth University during their accommodation contract, when the daily credit amount then becomes enough for 2 meals per day. At the weekend, when we offer our brunch menu, both packages will give you 4.26 credit per day. You can also add credit to your card when you wish to. At just a week, the weekly cost for our meal plans will save you time and money. Our chefs will provide you with delicious meals every single day and happily take suggestions on what can be served the following week. What type of food is available? Our restaurant caters for a range of dietary requirements including vegetarian and halal. We use fresh, locally sourced and seasonal ingredients wherever possible. The Compass Our restaurant has over 100 seats and is located on the ground floor of the residential accommodation building. It is accessible from the College itself, meaning you won t have to walk far for your meals and snacks. Serving times are as follows: Monday to Friday Grab and Go breakfast 07:30 to 10:00 Hot breakfast 08:00 to 10:00 Lunch 12:00 to 14:00 Dinner 17:30 to 19:30 Saturday, Sundays and public holidays Brunch 11:00 to 13:00 Tea, coffee, fresh snacks and sandwiches are available all day from 07:30, Monday to Friday. If this option is not available, we will notify the student s parents or legal guardian to offer alternative accommodation. Please note, your deposit will not be fully returned if the room is damaged or left in bad condition, or if there are any accommodation penalty charges outstanding. 8 How to book your accommodation Follow the simple steps below to book your accommodation. Use the answers to the right for more help. Step 1 Use the Accommodation dates and prices page in this guide to choose the option that matches your course dates. Step 2 When applying to study on a course, you can indicate your preferred room type on the application form. We will then record your accommodation preferences and send you further information with your tuition offer letter. OR If you have already completed the course application form, you can complete the online Accommodation Form to indicate your accommodation preferences, based on the information given in this guide. Questions and answers What is a guarantor? A guarantor is someone who will be legally responsible for any accommodation fees you fail to or are unable to pay. May I change the length of my accommodation contract? You may not change your contract length after you have booked and signed your Accommodation Agreement. What is the Accommodation Agreement? The Accommodation Agreement is a contract confirming the details of your accommodation. By signing your Accommodation Agreement, you are agreeing, under UK law, to pay for your accommodation for the full length of the accommodation contract. What is the Holding Fee? The holding fee indicates to us that you are interested in taking our accommodation. It is 1,000 and can be paid at any time in the application process. Once you receive your Accommodation Agreement, the 1,000 is then divided into 250 for the security deposit and 750 towards the next payment of your accommodation fees. Step 3 Once you have accepted your offer, we will be able to confirm your accommodation option. We will reserve a room for you and send you an Accommodation Agreement. You will then need to complete the following steps in order to secure your booking: 1) Fill in your guarantor details on the Accommodation Agreement 2) Both you (the tenant) and your guarantor will need to read and sign the Accommodation Agreement, and then return it by the accommodation confirmation date, which can be found in the Agreement. A third person must also witness the signatures, and provide their own details on the Agreement. 3) If you have not done so already, you will also need to pay a 1000 holding fee to secure the room. This will be credited towards your overall accommodation fees. Step 4 When you are ready to come to the UK and have booked a flight, you will need to confirm your arrival details by completing the online Pre-Arrival form. The College will be able to book and confirm transfers for you, and more details are provided in the Pre-Arrival Guide. Please submit your arrival details at least two weeks before you fly to ensure the College and your accommodation are prepared for your arrival What is evidence of payment? Evidence of payment can be a copy of the payment receipt, bank statement, banker s draft or via Flywire. What happens if I miss the accommodation confirmation deadline? You must complete the required steps in order to secure your booking. If you fail to do so by the accommodation confirmation date, your agreement may be cancelled and your room given to another student to book. If your Accommodation Agreement is cancelled, and you tell us that you would still like to book college accommodation, you will be offered the next available room.. If you decide not to take this room, refund of any fees paid will only be granted in line with Kaplan International Pathways Terms and Conditions, and may be subject to an administration fee being deducted. When can I move into my room? You will be able to move into your room from the start date of your contract, but only after you have sent us your signed Accommodation Agreement and first payment. Can I get a refund if I leave the College? If you leave the College for any reason after starting your course, accommodation fees will not be refunded. Accommodation guarantee dates We can guarantee accommodation to all students who submit their Accommodation Form before the dates below, and have accepted their offer to study. Course start date Guarantee deadline* January st December 2017 February st January 2018 April st March 2018 * While every effort will be made to allocate your first choice, we cannot guarantee this, and you may be offered another accommodation type or location. 9 How to pay for your accommodation Read the below information to find out how you can make payments towards your accommodation. Choose your country and the amounts you are paying in GBP 3. Choose your payment method and make your payment to Flywire 4. Enter the payer details and those of the student you are paying for 5. Track and confirm your payment by , SMS or by logging into BUIntCollege.flywire.com Bank draft in Pounds Sterling payable to Bournemouth University International College for the deposit. Remember to include your family name and student number (found on your offer letter) as payment reference. When you arrive at the College, you can pay your remaining accommodation fees by Flywire. Please note: The 250 deposit is used to book your accommodation and will be returned to you when you move out of your accommodation. Your deposit will not be fully returned if the room is damaged or left in bad condition or dirty, or if there are any accommodation penalty charges outstanding. If your visa application is unsuccessful, please send a copy of your visa refusal documents (or other evidence) to the College and we will refund all the accommodation fees you have paid. If we do not receive the first payment and signed Accommodation Agreement, you will not be able to move into your room.
