2 SPRING LEISURE DYS 2019 Welcome to the South West Coaches 2019 Spring brochure where we continue to offer you a wide variety of value for money days out, theatre trips and concerts to choose from. Once more we include the old favourites that book year after year, whilst alongside of these trips we have tried to enhance our programme of excursions with some new venues or attractions experience the thrill of top class World Championship Speedway at Cardiff in September or whilst perhaps a little more sedate see the new Koala Creek at Longleat in May! Some of our most popular excursions like Hampton Court Flower Show, Port Isaac and Padstow or Dawlish and Teignmouth sell out fast, so if you are interested we suggest that you book early so that you don t miss out!! To hire a scooter for a day, we reccommend that you contact Shopmobility in Yeovil on , who can also arrange delivery of the scooter to and from our depot, so we can safely load the scooter onto the coach prior to departure, giving you one less thing to worry about. 4 STURDY 23RD FEBRURY OTTER NURSERIES ND EXETER TUESDY 26TH FEBRURY / SNOWDROPS T KINGSTON LCY The elegant 17th century Kingston Lacy country mansion just outside of Wimborne, is set in attractive formal gardens and parkland. The grounds are renowned for a magnificent display of Snowdrops so come along to enjoy the spectacle. Even without the cold weather a good display is expected throughout February. The Victorian fernery is a good place to start before meandering down the Lime venue and on to Lady s Walk, where Henrietta Bankes first planted snowdrops in the early 1900s. There will be over 30 different species of snowdrop on display this year. Visitors come from far and wide to enjoy a traditional indoor & outdoor market, with over 200 stands. Take a stroll through the market and you ll find tradesmen selling all kinds of goods, from local produce to finally crafted works of art. bergavenny is also known for its independent stores and for shopping it has a wonderful mix of locally sourced products unique to this town. Round off the day with a visit to one of the many coffee shops THURSDY 11TH PRIL / BRISTOL OR BRISTOL ZOO We set down at Cabot Circus in Bristol, ideal for exploring, with the Cathedral, Bristol museum or the many shops close at hand. lternatively, for those wishing to visit the world famous Bristol Zoo Gardens, we set down outside the entrance! With nine under cover animal houses, Bristol Zoo is a wonderful, all weather family attraction. You can see the amazing gorilla family in the unique 180 degree view gorilla house. Poole's harbour is a haven for sailors, wildlife and watersports. Poole is also home of the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and their training college is located right on the harbours edge. FRIDY 19TH PRIL / LYNTON & LYNMOUTH This stretch of Devon coast is a spectacular combination of sweeping moorland, high rugged tree clad cliffs and enticing sheltered bays. In a rapidly changing world, Lynton and Lynmouth and the whole Exmoor area still remain as they have been for centuries. The small town of Lynton stands high above its sister village of Lynmouth, a quaint nostalgic harbour town. Today we will disembark the coach at Lynton and explore this quiet village. Sidmouth is a beautiful coastal town with a regency feel. Sat in the middle of spectacular countryside Sidmouth is home to beautiful beaches and great shopping, with everything from unusual gifts, designer clothing and lifestyle goods available. long the front is the Millennium Walkway which stretches the length of the beach inc 35.95inc MONDY 22ND PRIL / BOURNEMOUTH Bournemouth is a vibrant and cosmopolitan seaside town that has everything you could wish for. The promenade is perfect to take a leisurely stroll along, perhaps stopping for some fish and chips or a traditional icecream. Bournemouth s beautiful gardens provide the perfect location to sit and enjoy your surroundings, perhaps accompanied by music from the bandstand or tea and scones STURDY 27TH PRIL / LYNDHURST ND EXBURY GRDENS We make a brief coffee stop in Lyndhurst, known as the capital of The New Forest since William the Conqueror established it as a Then it is onto Exbury Gardens - a spectacular 200 acre site, world-famous for the Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, rare trees and shrubs. This earthly paradise offers a riot of colour in spring. Capture Exbury s hidden beauty and escape the cares of the world as you explore a myriad of pathways. Included is a 20 minute trip aboard the 12 ¼ inch gauge Steam Railway is sure to delight visitors of all ages inc 22.95inc The beautiful Georgian market town of Lymington is situated on the southern edge of the New Forest. There are a number of interesting independent shops including some designer boutiques and on Saturdays, a market is held in the High Street featuring everything from farm produce to bric-a-brac. t the top of the High Street is the Parish Church, St Thomas Church (circa 1250), from the bottom of the High Street a cobblestone road leads down to the Old Town Quay, still used as a base by commercial fishing boats. We then continue to Christchurch - its unique location on the coming together of the rivers Stour and von and the shores of its own large natural harbour makes Christchurch a breathtaking location to visit. SUNDY 28TH PRIL / VON GORGE CRUISE WITH BOTMN'S LUNCH Experience the von Gorge with an entertaining and informative commentary throughout. Starting at Brunel s SS Great Britain, through the historic gates and into the huge lock, as you emerge into the von Gorge there is plenty to see including the spectacular view of Clifton Suspension Bridge. During our three hour cruise, a Boatman s lunch is served. Home baked, roasted ham with mustard, cheddar, stilton, seasonal salads, pickles, chutneys with freshly baked bread and butter. Planting schemes are constantly evolving to ensure there's always something new to excite and inspire visitors. Key highlights throughout the seasons include The Glasshouse, Rock Garden, Bowes-Lyon Rose Garden, The Mixed Borders and the newlycreated Exotic Garden. Seasonal must-sees include a carpet of crocus in spring, blooming rose collection in summer, magnificent autumn colour and a crisp Winter Walk. This week is National Gardening Week - all about sharing your passion for plants inc 19.95inc C SUNDY 5TH MY / WEST SOMERSET RILWY ND MINEHED Travel back in time as we steam through the Somerset countryside from Bishops Lydeard, for the 1 hour and 20 minute journey along the Exmoor Coast to Minehead. Travel through the gently rolling Quantock hills and distant Exmoor, villages nestling in leafy lanes, the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel with views of distant South-Wales. Dunster's imposing Castle and Minehead's seaside charm are all waiting to be discovered. In Minehead you have the chance to stroll along the picturesque Minehead harbour onto Blenheim Gardens, Minehead's largest park which opened in inc 18.95inc MONDY 6TH MY / BRIXHM PIRTE FESTIVL Brixham is built around the central harbour area, which remains the lifeblood of this quaint historic town. Try fish and chips made with freshly caught fish - a real treat! Over the Bank Holiday weekend the town (weather permitting!) celebrates its annual Pirate Festival. There will be lots of Pirates in costume, as well as musicians to suit all tastes, buskers, jugglers and other entertainers performing around the streets and harbour of Brixham with shows, re-enactments and events. There will also be entertainment aimed at the kids making this a real family day out It s no surprise that as one of the best loved artistes of our time, both at home and abroad Daniel O Donnell is back touring again with a revamped band. Daniel s concert shows around the world sell out on a regular basis. Daniel completed a very successful tour of the UK and also a short tour of the East coast in the US. On both tours, his fans were blown away by his new show. Such is Daniel s popularity that fans came from as far away as the US and ustralia to see him in his Welcome Back concerts! There is no doubt but that Daniel intends to continue touring around the globe with his unique, life affirming shows of music, song and laughter, for a long time to come! TUESDY 7TH MY / OSTERLEY PRK With a spectacular mansion surrounded by gardens, park and farmland, Osterley is one of the last surviving country estates in London. Once described as 'the palace of palaces', Osterley was created in the late 18th century by architect and designer Robert dam for the Child family to entertain and impress their friends and clients. Today you can explore the dazzling interior with handheld audio-visual guides, which bring the house to life in a completely new way. Outside the gardens are a delightful retreat from urban life and the park is perfect for picnics and leisurely strolls. 10 STURDY 11TH MY RHS MLVERN SPRING THE THREE COUNTIES SHOWGROUND SUNDY 12TH MY / PETWORTH HOUSE ND PRK Petworth House is a late 17th-century Grade I listed country house, rebuilt in 1688 by Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset, and altered in the 1870s to the design of the architect nthony Salvin, it contains intricate wood-carvings by Grinling Gibbons.The state rooms within the mansion display the finest collection of art in the care of the National Trust including works by Turner, Reynolds, Blake and Van Dyck. Separate Servants Quarters offer a glimpse of life below stairs, featuring domestic rooms and Historic Kitchen with a 1000 piece copper batterie de cuisine.
