The two day expedition that took them around the coastal and inland paths of Pen Llyn tested their skills in navigation and map reading in difficult weather conditions on day one with thick mist and heavy rain. The weather improved by evening and the pupils who were tired and wet after a 11k hike set up camp in Aberdaron for a much needed rest. On day two the rain managed to stay away and the pupils finished the 9.5k hike in record time! Chess Club The club has been meeting during the year under supervision Mr Huw Meilir Williams. This year's activities reached a peak recently with the semi-finals and a final. In the semi-finals Peryf ab Owain defeated Owain Rhys 2-0 with Cian Ireland beating Cain Palmer 2-0. The final was therefore a competition between Peryf & Cian. During the competition a very unusual thing happened (according to experts in the game!) - a draw. At the end of the contest however, Peryf was the winner by 3½ games to ½ a game. Congratulations to Peryf. 5 The Health and Social Care Department It was yet another busy year in the Department. In February Year 10 went to Antur Waunfawr near Caernarfon to gain an insight about working with adults with disabilities. It was an eye opener to the range of different career options in the Care Sector in Gwynedd. They were also given sound advice regarding their options when leaving school and entering the world of work. Following this Year 10 prepared for a mock-interview. We would like to thank Gail Davies, former Head of Nursing at Ysbyty Gwynedd for giving two days of her time to interview each pupil. She gave them great advice on how to prepare for interviews in the future. This was definitely a great experience for them all. Congratulations to all Year 11 pupils for reaching their BTEC targets. They all worked very hard and deserve all the best as they continue with their studies in September. On November 13 th the department will be holding a Careers Fair at the school where pupils will be able to meet a range of employers in the Health and Social Care sector. Should any parent or friend of the school like to give two hours of their time to talk to small groups of pupils about their experiences we would be glad to hear from them. Monies collected for good causes Sponsored Walk Children in Need Comic Relief Readathon Christian Aid Jeans 4 Genes Winter Fair Thank your for your continued support. We would like to wish Miss Bethan Williams, Head of the Welsh Department, the best of luck on her retirement after thirty long years in teaching. Congratulations also to Mrs Einir Matulla on her new job as Head of the English Department at Ysgol Ardudwy, Harlech. Best of luck to you both.
