2 Purpose of the Trip // Many of CEPAD s most loyal supporters who make amazing things happen in Nicaragua have few opportunities to visit and see the work they continue to support. We want to invite anyone who has helped provide resources to train the rural communities CEPAD serves to be part of this trip. Come renew your love for Nicaragua and see the work that YOU have made possible! Please also invite others who you think might want to commit to supporting the work of CEPAD after visiting. This is a special trip as it is happening during the celebration of CEPAD s 45th anniversary. You will be there to help celebrate this exciting anniversary and learn more about CEPAD s vision for the future. Beautiful people await you! 4 The Journey // Sunday, October 9, 2017 Arrival per participant preference Welcome to Nicaragua! Choose your flights to arrive sometime this day and CEPAD will pick you up at the airport and transport you to Hotel Europeo, a boutique hotel in the heart of Managua. Monday, October 10, 2017 Learn more about CEPAD/tour Managua Spend the morning learning more about CEPAD s history and work in Nicaragua. Meet with key staff and leaders. In the afternoon learn more about the history of Nicaragua through a tour of the capital city of Managua. Dinner at your hotel. Tuesday, October 11, 2017 Meetings with communities in Jinotepe Meet with local leaders in the area of Jinotepe. Learn about the transformative work that your donations have made possible in community agriculture and other programs. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight. Wednesday, October 12, 2017 Celebration of CEPAD s 45 years You will help to celebrate CEPAD s 45 years of working with the rural poor in Nicaragua. Thanks to your tremendous support CEPAD has been able to make huge

5 changes in the lives of ordinary people for years to come. Activities will include a church service and a meal as well as cultural activities to help celebrate the event. Thursday, October 13, 2017 Visit to San Francisco Libre Spend the morning visiting with more participants in the village of San Francisco Libre. Share lunch with community members and return to Managua. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Europeo. Friday, October 14, 2017 Tour of Granada Your last day will be spent touring the colonial city of Granada, Nicaragua. Granada has the look and feel of a European city as it was settled by Spaniards in We will take a boat tour into the Lake of Nicaragua to experience some wildlife and view islands in the largest lake in Central America. Lunch in Granada, a stop by the handicrafts market in Masaya and finally a trip to the Masaya Volcano, an active volcano outside of Managua. Dinner at Dona Haydee, a typical Nicaraguan restaurant in Managua and overnight at Hotel Europeo. Saturday, August 15, 2015 Departure per participant preference Enjoy a wonderful breakfast at your hotel prior to departure for the airport. Private transfers will be arranged according to your travel plans.

6 Answers to your Questions // How much does the trip cost: This unique opportunity to visit Nicaragua with CEPAD as your guide costs $975 per person. This fee covers all of your in-country transportation, meals, hotels and fulltime guide and translator. The fee does not include your international flight to Nicaragua. Can I bring valuables on the trip? We don t recommend bringing anything you would be devastated to lose. The hotels will all have wi-fi so if you want to bring a phone that can connect to wi-fi you may do so. What type of clothing should I bring? August in Nicaragua is rainy, so bring shoes you don t mind getting dirty and/or muddy. It will be hot, bring clothes for warm weather. Do I need a visa to travel to Nicaragua? If you have a US passport you do not need a visa to travel to Nicaragua, but your passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months after you return or you will not be allowed to enter the country. Do I need cash and/or credit cards on the trip? Most of your in-country costs will be covered in your trip fee, but having some additional cash and a credit card on hand for emergencies, gifts or spending money is

7 always a good idea. You will need $10 in cash when you enter for your tourist visa at the airport. Packing list, here are a few things you may not want to forget: Water bottle (tap water in Managua is safe to drink or you can refill your bottle with purchased water) Lightweight rain jacket 1 change of clothes for each day, clothes and shoes for restaurants Insect repellent and sunscreen Bathing suit (the hotel in Managua has a pool) Hat with brim Daypack (for trips out to communities) Sweater or light jacket for evenings $10 in cash for your tourist visa at the airport Can I bring gifts for the communities we visit? We encourage people to arrive in communities with empty hands to better be able to receive what the people of Nicaragua want to share with you. If you have your hands full it is harder to be in communion with those who you are visiting. When do I need to confirm my participation? We would love to know if you are going to participate by August 1, To reserve your spot a $500 deposit is required.
