16 What to Bring? Packing list provided Only one suitcase & one bedroll per student; no trunks allowed. Rolling suitcases are highly recommended. Bedroll may be sleeping bag with pillow or twin sheets & blanket with a pillow Towel & washcloth (for showering) Old clothes, with names on them Clothes may get muddy Can be warm during day and cold at night; good to have both long sleeve and short sleeve & some long pants & jacket. Prepare for weather, classes go forward rain or shine Rain poncho is a good idea Extra money? Canteen items available (t-shirts, souvenirs, snack, drinks) T-shirts are $15, many small gifts available; will visit the gift shop at Camp Jekyll and the Georgia Turtle Center Canteen sells snacks every day; prices $1-2 for most items Bring small bills; put money in a wallet or zipper bag

17 More Packing Tips Some classes are taught on the beach and boardwalk, so a windbreaker, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and layered clothing can be useful; students will likely get sandy, but not wet. Some classes will be held in the maritime forest, and bug repellant and long sleeves can be useful. One class is taught in the marsh and another in a freshwater slough; marsh boots are available to borrow, but if you have some, bring them; students could get a bit muddy. Some classes walk through dirty areas; shoes that can get dirty or wet are a good idea. We will walk on the beach at night; be prepared for changes in temperature; layers are important in November. Pack extra clothes in case your child s clothes get wet or muddy. Average temperatures in November are highs around 70 and lows around 50 degrees. Of course, check the forecast the weekend before the trip! Classes go forward rain or shine. Rain jackets or ponchos are a good idea.

18 What NOT to Bring? Anything not allowed at school Fireworks, knives, etc. Swimsuits (no swimming) Candy/gum not allowed in cabins Anything expensive Books, toys, games, anything you don t need Flashlights students are not allowed to bring flashlights Adult chaperones may bring flashlights Phones, devices students may not bring any electronics! Adult chaperones may bring phones

19 There is a gift shop. T-shirts are $15, sunglasses $3; lots of items are available. They sell snacks too. Should I send money? If so, how much?

20 Medical needs/emergencies? First aid available; Camp Jekyll has an infirmary should it be necessary; some teachers will have separate vehicle from bus for emergencies Can I contact my child? Yes, we ll work something out. Chaperones and teachers will have cell phones. Medication same medication forms that turn in to nurse will be handled by school employee Must all be turned in before the trip

21 Cost Approximately $225-$275 for students and chaperones (once we have secured busses and know how many students are going, we will have an actual number). Includes lodging for two nights and all classes Includes transportation on a charter bus with air conditioning, DVD player, restroom etc. Includes the following meals: Monday lunch and dinner; Tuesday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Wednesday breakfast and lunch. You may donate more to help defray costs of teachers, staff, and other students who cannot afford the trip. The school will make fundraising attempts in order to offset this cost. We will send a sign up for lots of snacks for both bus rides

22 Chaperones Anticipate class groups of twelve ten students with two adult chaperones; final number of chaperones dependent on number of students attending We will need male and female chaperones Must actively participate in all classes quarters and restroom (shared with other chaperones) Cost for chaperone to attend is same as cost for student to attend Chaperones must pass a (free) background check Must actively watch students at all times Chaperones sleep in cabins with students, but have separate sleeping
