2 Blackpool Family Information Service Keeping Blackpool Families Informed For any family related matter call or visit positive activities for young people financial issues support for parents of disabled children child safety Parenting advice and childcare Recreational Activities FREE EARLY EDUCATION FOR 2 YEAR OLDS 2 YO Do you live in Blackpool? Do you have a two year old child? From the term after your child turns two, he or she might be able to have up to 15 hours a week free flexible childcare, for 38 weeks per year. This is called the Free Early Education Entitlement and it is paid for by the Government. You can claim a free place for your child if you receive one or more of the following: Q Working Tax Credits and have annual gross earnings of no more than 16,190 Q Working Tax Credit run-on the payment you may receive for a further 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit. Q Income Support Q Income-based Job Seeker s Allowance Q Income-related Employment or Support Allowance Q Child Tax Credit provided you have an annual income no more than 16,190 Q Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Q The Guaranteed Element of the State Pension Credit Q Child receives disability living allowance Q Child has a current statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN) or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC )plan Q Child is looked after by a Local Authority Q Child has left the care of a Local Authority through special guardianship or an adoption or residence order Q Universal Credit If you are eligible and want to take up your free childcare places, there are three steps to follow: 1. Complete an application form: You can do this by completing an online application form at - Free Childcare for 2 Year Olds or call the Family Information Service on for an application form to be sent in the post. If your child s 2nd He/She will be entitled birthday falls between: to a free place from: 1 Jan 31 Mar April 1 April 31 Aug September 1 Sep 31 Dec January Make sure that the parent or guardian who claims the qualifying benefit is the person filling out the details and enters their National Insurance number. if you are appylying under DLA / SEN / EHC plan criteria, please ensure you attach the relevant documentation. 2. Wait for us to get in touch: when we receive the application we will check whether or not you are eligible and get back to you within 2 weeks to let you know. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria you can contact the Family Information Service for further information or help with the costs of childcare on or fis@blackpool.gov.uk. 3. Find childcare near you and book a place: we will send out a letter to confirm your eligibility. We will also provide you with a list of your local childcare providers. You will then need to contact these providers to check if they have a place available for your child. If they have a place available you can then arrange childcare with them. Please remember to take your letter with you.
